  1. Last time I was out I noticed it was taking a few seconds for the water pump to start peeing, is this something I should be concerned about or is it normal? Everything else seems to be working and once it starts coming out there is a solid stream. Being new to boating I wasn't sure if this was just the time for water to be sucked up the engine and passed through or a failing water pump. The motor is an 1987 Mariner 45 horse.
  2. I use the 4" power worms because they float real good, especially on drop shot. Then the frenzy popper works great, it flies like a bullet to.
  3. The worst I have done was trying to launch my dads jon boat when fishing by myself. I had it fully loaded and back down the ramp. Since the lake was only a couple blocks away I used rubber straps to hold it down, didn't go over 25 mph so it was okay. I wasn't supposed to submerge the lights and wires in the water, but I could still pull and push it off the trailer by myself. This time was different it would feel like it was going to go and then it wouldn't. I finaly remembered I didn't take off the straps, by that time they were stretched way out and worthless. The funniest thing I have seen was in Missourri the morning of a bfl at Truman. I was waiting for my partner at the hotel at the bright 3:30 am, when there was a loud scratching noise coming down the road. As the truck/boat go by you see the transom saver had came loose and was being drug around 60 mph kicking some sparks along the highway.
  4. In order to notice fish that bite on the fall keep your finger on the line, imagine the bait falling, and watch your line to do anything unusual, if that happens set the hook!
  5. Some might be trying to find a sponsor, but it seems to be a place to improve resume's.
  6. It is just a little school tournament. With 3 people and a 110 acre lake it shouldn't be a problem to have a fellow competitor verify the length so the fish don't ride the livewell all day. We are going to have a paper tournament and then convert the length to weight. Thanks for all the help, I will post how it turns out.
  7. Thanks for the help, it's off to Wal-Mart.
  8. I guess I should of read the box a little better, it's an aquarium air pump that we used in an old aquarium but it's for the right size. my mistake I said aerator earlier, it's an air pump. :
  9. Ice will cool the temperature in the little box, especially helpful during the summer when the actual water temp where the fish was caught can be much cooler than the livewell water temperature.
  10. I have got a question about hooking up an aerator to a live well, and fish survival. There is a little college tournament I will be fishing saturday/sunday. The only boat I have been able to get is my dad's old aluminum boat, which the livewell has basically died. The livewell can't pump in water and the aerator is broke. If I were to fill the livewell up when I caught the fish with a bucket, run an aerator I own, use Rejuvenade, and place some ice in the livewell would the fish be healthy? Also how in the world do I hook up an aerator to a battery, all I have is a 2 prong wall plug in?
  11. Yes, I fish a lot of tournaments ( At LOZ on holidays too). I've gotten used to using a trolling motor without a seat. I'm more comfortable like that. I can't stand to sit down or lean on something when I'm fishing. Maybe it's my height that throws me off :-?
  12. Not trying to put you down or anything, but have you ever ran a trolling motor on a big lake? That can get crazy when it blows, or even the party boats from say Lake of the Ozarks can push the boat. I think a front butt seat is the best option. I don't sit down to fish, although there are sometimes I have to use that seat to rest my leg for a moment or keep my balance. At my last tournament the darn boater used some seat cleaner, and made them super slick I couldn't even lean on them without sliding off ;D
  13. no more beef jerky that reads salt impregnated? ;D
  14. Looks like the Bigmouth video's http://www.glenlau.com/bassvideocollection.htm , very cool.
  15. I think that sports, especially high school sports for the younger anglers would help alot. It would show that you got involved.
  16. Kansas Deleware Oklahoma Missouri Colorado Arkansas Minnesota I might of forgot some...
  17. I would try using a 1 ounce weight pegged and then a tube. Rig it up with a heavy action and 20-50 pound test braid. Fling the lure as high as you can and let it rocket through the weeds. Once it gets below shake the bait letting it fall then pull it up to the weeds and let it fall again. Oh ya, hang on tight!
  18. Boaters in a tournament that talk about the 20 pound bag they caught the day before pre-fishing, then tell you every spot they caught one yesterday as you are going down the bank. I usually end up beating them, and combined we might make the 20 pounds.
  19. Also make sure you inform him of your intentions which I am guessing are catch and release. If he does let you on the pond be sure to thank him at the end of the year with a gift. That can be a lure, rod, cookies, or dinner.
  20. At my last tournament on Fort Gibson Oklahoma the water temperature was from 80-87 degrees. Is it still possible for some late spawners? There were some fish caught with torn fins and bloody tails which you could possibly contribute to the very shallow water. Among the 12 man Kansas team we all reported seeing some little black schools of fry, especially as the tournament days went on. Not only that, but it was also a full moon. If the temperatures, water level, and fronts were all right earlier in the spring could some of the fish just now been getting around to spawn??
  21. I don't think you are charging enough. There is $150-$40 so then $110 -$10 for food which leaves you with $100. Then you have to consider if clients will be using your equipment or there own, you can then take out more money for the cost of fishing gear. I believe your idea can get some money, but there will be alot of little things that can add up fast, so be sure of a price.
  22. With muddy water the fish will be relating to cover better, so you will need to get your bait in the thick of things. Also use some of the bulkier baits that will displace water to help the fish locate the bait. For color go with the darker colors black, purple, and red shad are a couple good colors. Also a chartreuse would be good. If you go with crankbaits use one with a wider wobble.
  23. I also like smelling like fish ;D
