  1. Check out the California tournament trail. It's a pro am setup with a shared weight. Believe the 2016 seasons over though
  2. So this past weekend I took my kayak out to Clear Lake. Pretty much all my fish came on a chatterbait. Here were my observations: - initially had the chatterbait tied to my trebled baits rod: a 3-powered mod-fast graphite rod paired with 6:4 reel with 40lb braid with 12lb mono leader. - hook up ratio with that setup was god awful. - switched the chatterbait to my frog rod, dobyns 735 with 65lb braid and landed almost all - I'm thinking because I was fishing sitting down, and wasn't able to get the leverage of a full hookset that the heavier setup compensated for this.
  3. First time out on Clear Lake
  4. Not the best picture wanted to get her back in the water. d**n you thehooligan for making me pick up the zpi knobs.
  5. I was fishing with a guy who was really good at skipping 1/2 oz football jigs. He said he liked the brakes really loose and the cast control tight.
  6. Thanks! Gonna order a pair
  7. Quick question for you guys with the slim ZPI knobs. Do they come with end caps?
  8. This combo has me playing favorites. Need more steezs in my life.
  9. Lotta nice shimanos on this page! Sweet rods all around too thehooligan how do you like those zpi knobs? I'm debating between those and some black avail wood knobs. Would love something with a similar shape but with EVA foam.
  10. Don't know either! But it feels so right. Thanks man.
  11. Here's another equally blurry pic
  12. In love with this setup.
  13. I've had to deal with their warranty department and the experience was top notch. My KLX snapped a couple guides down on a cast. I contacted Kistler and they told to me to cut the handle off the rod and only send that to them. This cut costs on shipping the rod way down (to about $7) and they sent me a new replacement very quickly. I wouldn't hesitate purchasing from them, you'll love the KLX.
  14. My first choice would be a Kistler KLX. 2nd choice would be a Phenix Recon 2.
  15. First year building confidence on topwater, but the topwater bite has been on post spawn.
  16. My external dial is also pretty stiff, but I think I prefer it that way. Also, I noticed that the external brake settings actually do make a difference whereas on the Curado I can barely tell the difference. So far I'm loving this reel.
  17. Thehooligan what size are the bearings that you put in? Hedgehog says they're both 3x10x4 but I took out the bearing under the cast control knob and it looks thinner than the other bearing.
  18. Could it also possibly be the brakes? I know I have experienced a whining noise, though while casting, due to not oiling the lip/barrel or whatever that contacts the brakes. It's even in the instruction manual. If it's on the retrieve I'm not sure, but it doesn't hurt to try.
  19. Sweet! Congrats on the new boat. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it when you get a chance to play around with it. It's at the top of my list and i'm almost ready to pull the trigger. Do any of you guys frog pitch or punch mats from a kayak? Theres a small local reservoir thats perfect for kayaks and fishing these techniques. I can easily imagine falling over easily on a hookset punching heavy mats.
  20. I'm looking to join the club soon. Saving for a Ride 115x
  21. I was in a similar situation and I narrowed it down to the Phenix Recon 2 and the ***. I went with the recon and love it, but I bet the *** would also be a great choice and its in your budget.
  22. My favorite new setup. This combo is sweet
  23. Slow down
  24. I spend probably more than I should, but I don't regret or feel guilty about a single cent.
  25. Got one this week on a Phenix Recon2. It's spooled with 10lb braid and casts great. I'm throwing neko rigs with 3/64 oz nail weights to 1/8 neko sinkers and it casts them all great.
