  1. Ok, I kind of figured that based on what I went through today, but wanted to make sure. Thanks for the clarification.
  2. So I was reorganizing my jig box this morning (I like to keep a row of 3/8, 1/2, a split row of 5/8 & 3/4, then the last is a mix of smaller and then 1oz). I figured over the last year some probably got put in the wrong spot - no big deal. So I started weighing them and got all sorts of weird weights. I remember buying a certain jig as a 3/8oz or .375oz and it would come up at .46 or something. So my question is that when a manufacturer sells a 3/8oz jig are they referring to the weight of the jig head itself? Not considering the skirt, rattle, or whatever the case that it comes with. Is this so when/if I put a new skirt on the jig is still a 3/8oz head? I know this seems like a silly question but I was never aware and am now curious. Matt
  3. So I think I am going to pick a pack of these up, fairly simple question but do you simply tie on as normal. Then cut a new piece of line to desired length then simply slide it in to the other side (maybe tying a overhand knot at the very end). Thanks, Matt
  4. Any information on lake conditions would be appreciated. I know it changes but water clarity would be helpful.
  5. I've had my eye on these for a while, haven't pulled the trigger yet. I also would be interested in hearing from someone with hands on experience with them. I like the fact the the blades are replaceable.
  6. Thanks everyone. Today was certainly a great day, but I still have so much to learn and look forward to advancing my fishing skills.
  7. So I know many of these things I will list are probably in everyone rear view mirror but I had a lot of fishing firsts today. First time with a baitcaster ever on the water. Did really well IMO only had one backlash (plus it was really windy out). I may not have had the farthest casts but all in do time. While I feel a little embarrassed to actually admit this one it is what it is - today I actually felt a bite and set the hook. This may sound minor as to all of you this is probably second ntature, but it is a huge deal to me. I fished with a Inshore Ugly Stick for the last year and a half and never really felt a fish bite before (not the most sensitive rod). Most of the time on my Ugly Stick I would just fish fast and almost always be reeling in and the fish would just be on the end. But today I was fishing a weighted tube nice a slow on the bottom and felt them hit. Anyway just wanted to share, I am going to go out both Saturday and Sunday so here's to feeling more bites. Thanks for all the tips I have received from this forum! Matt
  8. So I will be visiting family over Thanksgiving (Cleveland, TN) and was wondering how the bank fishing will be over that time period. Any suggestions on certain spots? I have never caught a smallie and figured I might try while down, pending everyone's thoughts. Also, any tips on lure recommendations. Matt
  9. 130 posts short - maybe next year!
  10. Is this what you mean - http://www.amazon.com/Berkley-Trilene-Spool-Yards-Green/dp/B00GRUMP4Q It's nice and cheap! Great to practice with.
  11. I've been fishing with a Inshore Ugly Stick and a Pflueger Reel for about a year and a half. The rod is ok (not very sensitive) but I like the reel a lot. The rod is about 4 years old, I bought it at a great price from a member on here. I honestly have had it for about 3 months trying to figure out what reel to get and of course save up some money. Everyday it cries out to be fished and now I can finally take care of her. I only spooled about 30-40 yards of some 10lb mono I had laying around just to practice with, I figured less to un-nest. I'll try respooling it tighter. Thanks!
  12. Ok, yes thanks. It looks like the manufacturer website is the best place. TW seems to be hit or miss.
  13. I was reading another post and what brand trebles everyone uses and it got me thinking... I have never replaced any of my hooks but I was looking around at some I have and couldn't figure what size hooks they are. Are there standard sizes for say a shallow vs deep crank, lipless, jerk, etc? Thanks Matt
  14. Thanks for the responses. I'll try to work my way up to lesser brakes with time. Setting the drag tighter sounds like it could work I'll try today after work.
  15. So I received my first baitcaster yesterday and it was raining so I spooled it up and tied on a Spro Frog. I set it up per Gene's video (great videos) and tried getting my thumb used to stopping the lure before it hits the ground. I started kind of pitching it and didn't do to bad. Fast forward to today and I took her outside for casting practice for about 45min. Few questions (sorry they are so novice but I really don't know anyone that fishes to ask - help me BR you're my only hope): 1) So in Glenn's video he sets the spool tension so that the lure slowly falls - in time, maybe years, is that always the case or will it be set to fall quickly as I get better? 2) When I was reeling in if the frog got hung up on a stick or something and I gave it a tug to free it, I always got a small birdsnest (line loose on the spool) do I need to feather the line when I am reeling in or since it was on grass and not in water would that effect it. Am I not set up correctly? What about when I am fishing like jerk bait and I am reeling in slack? 3) When the lure hits the water (I stop it with my thumb) in order to get it to the proper depth I assume I back my thumb off and feather the line out till I am at the depth I want to fish at? I had a few more but can't think of them currently. My setup in case it matter is an IMX844 and a Chronarch 150 CI4+. PS - the noise it makes during casting - that almost light hum is awesome. Thanks! Matt
  16. Heck of a fish Dwight. Nice and fat!

Tom - great post. I posted a week or so ago asking if anyone has used this lure before, didn't get much response from people that have thrown it a lot. The action in the video looks awesome, but yes pricey. I was going to wait for TW Thanksgiving sale a pick one up.
  18. Thanks for the replies. I'll be sure to check my lines for frays as well as work on my knot tying.
  19. Few similar questions. So the last couple times out I have had a few problems. Sometimes I will tie a leader that is 5-6' long, Mono, on braid as my main line. Is that too long, does it wear as it goes through the guides? The reason I tie one so long is because I only have one rod currently in use (and anytime I switch baits I have to cut some off). I have 2 Loomis rods and just got enough cash for reels to put on them, but that's another thing. Anyway, twice in the last 3 times I've been out my leader kind of just rips off at the knot during casting (the knot is still there but the rest is just gone). I tie an Alberto knot to join the lines. While it certainly could be my knot tying abilities, my question is after a certain number of casts, 20, 50, etc casts should the knot be retied? Same kind of question - how often should I retie my knot on my lures. Again a couple times in my last outings (this time using straight braid) my bait will simply fly off during casting - again this could be my knot tying or does the knot have a useful life? I bank fish so sometimes when I get stuck I need to give the line a good pull to get unstuck. I feel these questions aren't very clear so I will apologize, but any help is appreciated.
  20. I bought those and the Fuji's from TW yesterday. Wasn't sure what one I would like better.
  21. Thanks for all the responses I just bought my first 2 Loomis rods and want to keep them as clean as possible.
  22. Was curious if anyone has ever used these or any other products that you like instead? http://www.***.com/Fuji_Ez_Keeper/descpage-FUJIEZK.html Thanks
  23. I'm with other as I will defiantly take advantage of a good sale wherever that may be. But 75% of my purchases come from TW another 15% forums and the last 10% at BassPro. I do like to take a trip to BassPro 1.5hrs away to check out stuff in person sometimes.
  24. Thanks for replying. I like to fish topwater but so far have not been very successful at it. Although to be honest I haven't given it a whole lot of time (I've only been regularly fishing about a year and a half). I do like the side to side action on it and think I might pick one up next sale (Black Friday maybe?).
  25. I was wasting some time on TW yesterday and found this guy (Jackall Pompadour) - it looks like the Heddon Crazy Crawler. I was wondering if anyone has used it before and have you had success - it looks like it has nice action. Does the action in the video reflect actual presentation?
