  1. This was on the James, but on the Potomac I've caught then on just about everything especially jerkbaits and chatterbaits. This however was my first on a soft plastic.
  2. I've caught a few various species on it as well, two weekends ago was my first ds catfish.
  3. Knowing your price range would help. I love my NRX 852. I throw shakey head, drop shot, senkos, Ned, split shot and its a great all purpose rod.

  5. Nice Perch! Been really getting into drop shotting this year and glad I did. Great technique when the bite is tough. Admittedly it can attract some smaller fish but I've caught some nice fatties on it as well. It is really becoming a favorite technique of mine. Matt
  6. I use the Paca chunks but also love the Xcite Baits Raptor Tail Chunk. Matt
  7. That is the best feeling UNTIL you feel it 'death roll'...
  8. While I haven't ever targeted catfish, I have caught them on the following - spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and jerkbaits. So far no plastics or jigs. Edit: How could I forget Chatterbaits - they love those things!

  10. Great question, as I much further away than you, I might be there someday. I get asked sometimes by my boater (especially on a hard bite) for any suggestions. But anything I would be able to suggest would simply be a spot another boater from the club has showed me. So I don't ever make a suggestion. Would love to hear others input. Matt
  11. Just throwing this out there - Rarenium. I was looking at the stradic and didn't like the color scheme (yes it matters to me) and went with the Rarenium had it all season and other than one issue the first time out in 28 degree weather, it has been awesome! Matt
  12. Sounds like I'll just keep throwing them until the stopneating, which appears to be later than originally thought.
  13. This was my first year throwing hollow body frogs, while fairly unsuccessful, was curious as to what makes you stop throwing them. Water temps, the pads, grass, slop is dying back? As always many variables come in to play (location a big part), but wanted to know when to pack them up for winter. It would seem just like other top waters it would be successful if not very successful in fall at certain times, but really not sure when to stop. Thanks, Matt
  14. Awesome thank you. Yes the Potomac can be a fickle beast. I'm still learning so much.
  15. Thanks guys. This is my first year fishing the Potomac (started in March, so almost a full season), but nearly 90+% of the time we fish less than ~6' of water. I just wasn't sure as anytime I see videos or read about these types of baits and many are fishing in 15'+ FOW. I guess there is only one way to find out. Matt
  16. Do you guys find these baits effective in shallow water, less than 6'. Maybe the 1/4 or 3/8oz?
  17. The tackle trap. They had somea few days last week. But sell out within hours.
  18. OK, thanks Jeff. Maybe my spinnerbait rod. Matt
  19. I have 14lb sniper on my nrx 893 and haven't had a single problem. It's my primary Texas rig and jig rod for under 3/8oz. Matt
  20. 2 Swamp Donkeys! My first and I love how the hooks are facing/Pre-bent outward.
  21. What kind of rod do you like? I was thinking m shallow cranking rod? Reel I would think something like a 6.x:1
  22. I picked up my first pack of scounger head jigs and wanted to get some incite on how, where, when to fish them. I mostly fish fairly shallow water 6' or less, in most cases. I was thinking of starting out throwing a fluke or lake fork magic shad (big fan if this bait) on the back and go from there. I'm sure its like most things where it has many ways to be successful, slow steady retrieve, yo-yo, bouncing along the bottom, etc. Wondering what has been most successful for everyone. Matt
  23. I have 2 of them, Blueberry Perch and Rayburn Red. As others have said - super loud. While I have only fished the Blueberry, it certainly didn't run true out of the box - not a huge deal. But on a tournament last month the bite was horrible (killed it in practice). I was throwing all sorts of cranks, nothing, about 30 minutes till weigh in I put it on and landed my only fish that day. Fluke or coincident I don't know. But now that Fall is rolling around, I try and throw it more and see how it produces long term.
  24. Here's a good one for you: so the club tourney was canceled last night do to potential tropical storms. I was off Friday to pre-fish anyway I decided to go to a small farm pond near the house to at least get out. Right off the bat I start throwing my buzzjet Jr and play around with the retrieve and see how it acts on the water. After 5-10 minutes I get a bit and a nice one at that. Start to bring her in and unfortunately since we haven't had rain in forever the water level is so low. It's about 3-5' from the bank and too muddy to stand in or you sink. So I get her to the edge of the water and this is probably a 5lb fish - SWEET! But not the problem is how to get her to me and unhook her. As I'm trying to lightly step onto the mud and grab her she break me off at the knot. I'll blame me for the bad knot. So inlrss than 10 minutes o lost a $25 lure.
