  1. I inherited a shoebox fill of lures, in line spinners and rapala 01 to 08, and would like to use them. There is a variety of types...sinking, countdown, floating jointed and non jointed, x-rap, husky jerk, minnow rap, all about 1/8oz and in line spinners 1/16 oz to 1/4 oz. Also top water jitterbugs and poppers. I'll be using a spinning reel ML (buying this rod this weekend) 6 lb line to start and from the bank. I was just going to spend the day trying a bunch of stuff but this forum has been great so maybe I'll do better with some suggestions? I have firebait and roboworms too but just hate to have all these lures just sitting here.
  2. Thanks to all. I have a much better idea and feel now. You've been great!
  3. Thanks Yeti! I will check out that link. I searched through pages of posts and couldn't find an answer. It must be buried in there somewhere. I have only used spinning and wasn't sure if a casting setup would be more advanced. It looks intimidating. But you guys here would know. I only have one good tackle store locally and they give me opposite information every time I go in there. I was told a ML rod with 8lb test for lures and when I went back to purchase the next week another sales guy told me a MH 10lb test for them and for the drop shot. I fish trout, bluegill, Kaneohe (?), bass and such...what we have near Sacramento. Maybe that 'best of bass will clear it up for me'. Have a great day.
  4. Hello! Being new to fishing I am needing some advise. I have a medium power rod and want to get a second rod so I can have one rigged for casting lures or ready for drop shot without having to stop and change out the rig. Do I need a ML rod? Most of my lures are 1/8 oz or 1/4 oz. I have a 5/8 jerk bait. My lures are mostly rapala size 3-6. Should I be looking at a heavier MH pole instead? Which is my medium one best for. Thx!
  5. I direct tie all my lures but use swivels on Carolina Rig (?) when attaching the leader. Just the way I was taught. Weight, bead, swivel, leader, hook, then bait. Never on a lure. Should we not be using them at all?
  6. Drop shot from the shore is quite fun. My favorite right now. I agree that the clinch on the drop shot weights are good to use. If you snag hard, you still keep the lure. I also use the tall cylinder kind rather than the round as they slide over rocks a little better and don't get caught in them as easily.
  7. What else might bite on these besides bass? These lures sound intriguing. You've got my attention.
  8. Hello! I keep mine in a Plano Two-Tiered guide series stowaway. I like that it has two trays but I don't have to flip it to access the bottom. The top tray is standard depth but the bottom is a deep tray. It comes in 3600 and a larger series. I use two of them in my backpack.
  9. Greetings! I am brand spanking new to the sport. I inherited some fishing equipment and am unsure just what to use it for. I have a Shimano Sellus ultra light rod with a pflueger trion spinning reel and an Abu Garcia Vengeance medium rod with a pflueger president spinning reel. Both 6'6". Just beginner stuff I think. The tackle box that came with them is filled with this type of bait: (1) floating and countdown rapalas size 01, 03, and 05, (2) rattling rapala 04, (3) in line spinners, hum dingers, spoons, kast masters 1/4oz and under, (4) various bait hooks (5) 1/32 jigs with plastic grubs, and (5) several bags of 2" plastic shad and 4" roboworms. There are also containers of firebait in various colors. So, I checked YouTube and think these are for trout, bluegill, crappie, smallmouth bass, perch, and similar types of fish. I also think I may be needing a medium light rod and not the ultra light I recieved? One salesman at a local store said the UL is perfect and another said to get a ML. I'm a little confused. Also both rods have p-line fluroclear 8 & 6 lb test that was in the box. I think I'd like to try drop shot, some wacky rigging, and Texas rigging too. I saw it on the videos. Too ambitious? Am I on the right track with what I've got? Sorry if that's too much or not the right info. It's my first forum post. Thanks for any help.
