  1. Thanks all! That's all been good information. This is where I will be asking my questions.
  2. I'm not exactly sure about all these gear ratio differences. I have spinning reels and just getting into baitcasting. I notice that basically there are the 5 to..., 6 to..., and 7 to... ratio reels. Each should be specific for certain uses but the boxes never say? How is a newer angler to wisely make a choice? As a female I have a heck of a time at my local shop. The sales guys usually ignore me until I flag them down and then just hand me something and just say it will be fine for me but I don't even know why! Arggggg! Can't wait till my new BPS opens this year! It only has three walls up so it will be a while. I think frogs, Crankbaits, jerkbaits, soft plastics, jigs...are all better at different ratios but which? Thanks! Sorry for the ramble...
  3. Hi all! I've been strictly a spinning rod angler while learning how to fish (over a year now, still a rookie
  4. I have the new 2015 lews high spin speed LFS and it feels really good. For the $100 price point it felt great to me.
  5. I've seen that killer gill, seems like a great color.
  6. That Bully Wa 2 does look interesting. It is supposed to has a tube or something internal that keeps water from filling the frog. I would like one too I think.
  7. Thanks! There seems to be sort of a small, medium, and large size option for a lot of these. What would be the advantages of the different sizes? Should I just go medium until I see what works? Or is it that small are for panfish, medium for smallmouth, and large for largemouth? Or are they just frogs and it really doesn't matter?
  8. Hello! I'm expanding into frog lures for bass. I see a lot of different brands. I fish three lakes that are calm, heavily weeded underwater, and no real floating lilies or vegetation. It is pretty stained as well. There is also a river that I fish connecting two of the lakes. I have looked at some popper style frogs and some regular style. I think I'd like a few to start. Any thoughts on what I should buy? I have heard some take on lots of water but don't know which to avoid either. Thanks!
  9. Really! Even fish can't resist bacon I guess.
  10. Using it for a lube is a good idea. I'll remember that.
  11. I have been hearing a lot about fish attractant. There are marinades, gels, and pastes. I have seen pro-cure, mike's gel scent, smelly jelly, and mega strike advertised a lot lately. Anyone tried these? Have any suggestions or favorite 'flavor' and brand? Is it nonsense or a good idea? If so, how do you like to use them? Thanks!
  12. That's good stuff! Is there a better size to stick with? The 3/16 oz looks a bit small for bass.
  13. Wow, this has been an educational read. I've learned a lot. I love it when folks ask questions I didn't know had.
  14. Hello. I found a handful of krocodile spoons in a box of fishing stuff. They are 3/16 oz and 1/4 oz. Can I use either of these for bass? Maybe the 1/4 oz? Or are they best for trout and panfish?
  15. Ugg. I don't look forward to hooking myself....but I guess we all do it sometime. I'm new to the sport so I guess it's coming. I like your humor about it.
  16. That's great! Nice job.
  17. I like that Thompson Buoyant Minnow. Just got it for my 6'6" light rod for trout.
  18. I just recently bought a few hilderbrandt spinners. You can dress them up how you like. When I figure out the 'sweet' colors for my area I'll be modifying them to suit.
  19. Nice! Was that from the bank!
  20. Z-man TRD 2.75" are great too. With the elaztech they just really hang in there all day as well.
  21. I have been playing with a few lately.
  22. I'm fairly new to it as well but have been doing well with a ML Shimano Clarus spinning rod 6'6". Not so light that I struggle but enough to have fun and get a little skill going. I have been using in-line spinners with success and some ultralight rapalas in size 4-5. I tried a few kastmasters too. My friend caught a good sized fella with a rebel crickhopper! I'll be following this post for ideas. Thanks. Good luck!
  23. I have a plano elite speed bag for soft plastics that holds about 20 bags. I don't need more with me when I'm out. It's small enough to fit nicely In my backpack too. As for home? I don't have a standard system yet. Working on that.
  24. I was talking on the phone to an old friend who had randomly called me after three years. I changed out my rig to throw a live worm so I could toss it out and let it sit while I talked. During the hour phone call I noticed several folks down the shore a bit kept making catches while my line didn't so much as barely twitch. After I hung up I put my phone down on the little table beside my chair and....there was my live worm squirming around. I had thrown out an empty bait hook.
