  1. After years of fishing for Pike and Musky, and getting our hands all tore up, we started doing this on the boat. No more infections or sore hands.
  2. I just bought a new Victory last year. I put a Shimano 2500 Miravel on it. All I can say is "wow". It's been a great combo. I mainly use 10lb 832 braid with a 6lb McCoys Mean Green leader.
  3. I was fishing a river system last year with a friend. He was down stream fishing, and was slaying them. Decent size also. I asked him what he was throwing, and he showed me a Neko rigged 5" single tail grub. He used a 1/32 oz nail weight, and an Owner Mosquito hook. He set me one up, and about 5 casts later a very very nice 2 plus pound smallie destroyed it. I will have to give this a try. He told me he's been Neko rigging grubs for a few years now.
  4. I watched a video on YouTube of Shin Fukae using them. My understanding is he invented them. I have been thinking about getting some of them. There is an old mine quarry where I have permission to fish. Lots of standing timber and brush piles. But like you, I wonder if the bite gap is large enough for a stick bait. Shin was using a 5" Senko as he was demonstrating rigging.
  5. I have used YZH in the past and liked it very much. Had a friend give me a spool of McCoys Mean Green. Haven't looked back. Very manageable and strong. Drop shotting in Canada 2 years ago. Fishing on a bluff wall in 7-10 feet of water. Cast out let it soak for a minute, my line starts moving off, set the hook, and my drag starts buzzing. Quite literally 10 minutes later, a 40" Northern is in the net! 10 lb 832 braid with a 6lb Mean Green leader. Enough said about strength.
  6. Much thanks guys for the info!!!
  7. Good morning guys, hope all is well. I have a quick question . . . a friend of mine has been making jigs in his garage. They are actually quite nice. Anyway, he will make them with silicone skirts or living rubber. Do either of these interact with the Z man type of plastic in a negative way? Thanks much!
  8. Thanks for the info and replies gentlemen. I too only have med and med/light spinning rods. St. Croix Victory 6'10" med/lt is one of my very favorite rods. I just thought for the price he is asking it might be worth a purchase. Thanks again.
  9. Hey guys a quick question about med/heavy spinning rods. A friend of mine is selling some of his older gear. This guy is the greatest, but he is one of those guys that has more money than brains . . . he has 2 older Falcon spinning rods both are 6'8" or 6'9" I can't remember right now. Both are Med/heavy power fast action. Would those rods be useful for Wacky and Neko rigging? Also, I fish some 1/4 oz finesse football jigs. Would those rods be ok for those techniques? If not those techniques, what would you use them for? Thanks and Merry Christmas to one and all!!!!
  10. I completely believe this is true. In Canada this past June. Crazy week with multiple fronts coming thru. If it was sunny to partly sunny, we caught fish Neko rigging with Senko color 301 (green pumpkin w/green and purple flake) in 7-10 feet of water. When it got cloudy and some rain fell, we could go Wacky rig blue pearl with silver flake Senkos in shallow water 3-5 feet deep. We ran that pattern all week and caught some real nice fish, as well as, numbers.
  11. I don't really have a preference. I have a very good friend who is great to fish with. He is experienced and a fun guy to be around. My wife likes to hit a couple of friend's ponds . . . however, it is a lot of fun to go wade a local creek by myself for some smallie action. Just last week I went to a friend's pond, put the John boat in the water, and just let the wind take me where ever it wanted. Sat there for over 3 hours catching bass by myself.
  12. Thanks for the replies/info guys. I found what I was looking for . . . "Bite Me Tackle" has stupid tube jigs that go down to a 2/0 hook size. They are built for smaller 2.75" tubes. Already sent in my order.
  13. I have been looking at trying this technique out; however, I got my butt kicked last Saturday by a guy using a Neko rig I never thought of. I told him I was going to put it on here he just laughed and said, 'go ahead". Anyway, we were fishing a large creek last Saturday. We were about 40 yds apart and he was whacking them. Here is what he was doing . . . he had a 4" twist tail grub with a 1/16 oz nail weight inserted, used an o ring, and a drop shot hook. It was a Neko grub and he was killing the fish. He rigged me one up and second cast bang a nice 14" smallie.
  14. Hey guys, anyone know of a way to rig a smaller 2.75" tube up "stupid" style? I have experimented with tube size, and I just get bit much more on my creek and river smallies with a smaller size tube. If I rig with exposed a hook, it is almost impossible to fish some of the very rocky areas. I run a larger tube, I don't get the quality bites. Any ideas or help! Thanks much.
  15. I'm looking for someone to airbrush some jerkbaits for me. Can anyone on here recommend someone that does this. Thanks much!
