  1. Thanks for the info, really appreciate it. I forgot to mention I fish from a kayak. A boat may be in the near future. I've got a pile of 3/8 bitsy bug jigs I don't remember buying and a few footballs. Planning to get out and work them. Looking for as much info as I can get. I have been using a bunch of Texas rig stuff as well.
  2. I'm sure this has been covered a 1000 times and I actually did searches with different titles and didn't get really what I was looking for. The places I fish have alot of rock and rip rap bottoms and banks. I know I'm gonna get snagged no matter what and I'm sure there are other variables but I'm looking for a jig head style thats some what snag proof on rocks. I'm fairly new to bass fishing and I'm breaking away from the crankbait, spinnerbait and stepping up the jig and soft plastic action. Thanks for the advice.
  3. This is the EXACT boat I was in, I maybe fished 5 or 6 times this year after getting back into fishing just a couple of years ago. I definitely plan on getting out more this year, gonna start the workouts and the work schedule is nowhere near what it was.
  4. Thanks guys, appreciate it. Im kind of a noob to serious fishing and really stocked up on the rods and reels last year. The rope from the ceiling is a good idea, wish I'd thought of it. Made a rack out of some 2x4's and some of those plasti coated hooks from home depot. Should be pretty good when I get it up there.
  5. Is there any issue with storing fishing rods horizontally? Such as, will the rod develop a bow over time or the tip will start to sag, anything like that? I recently built a rack that holds my kayak and all my rods worked out awesome...until I tried to open the garage door. The door won't clear some of the longer rods and I don't want to store the rack in a place that allows the door to open cause that screws up everything else I have going on in there. So, I was going to buy some of those plasti-dipped hooks from the hardware isle in Home Depot and just support the rods horizontally with those. One hook just behind the reel and one maybe half to 2/3 the way up the rod. Is this cool? Thank you.
  6. What rod did you go with and how is it working for you? I have been considering the Mojo Bass swimbait rod for an all purpose muskie rod and did a search on the topic, came up with this thread. Just curious how its worked out. I won't be throwing anything over 3 ounces, I don't troll so there's no way I'm going to cast anything heavier than that all day long. The only drawbacks so far as I see for my purposes are the handle length 'cause I fish out of a kayak and the overall length cause it won't lay all the way down in the bed of my truck or go into the cab corner to corner.
  7. I might have missed it but what size line are you guys using on these set ups? I also really dislike finess fishing but I'm going to try and find the patience for it.
  8. Update us on how that works. I'm looking to use one the same way with wacky rigged senko and weightless worms and flukes.
  9. I just did an internet searc for this type of rod because I was thinking it might be good for weightless senkos, worms and flukes? I think I'd like just a ML/F so there's a little more backbone que no?
  10. This topic is a little old but I was in this same boat a couple of months ago. I've had a Lews Speed Spool and a Abu Silvermax. The Silver crapped out on me after 9 days and had to be sent back. I bought the Lews as a back up but still get some backlashes. I say this to say that, as a beginner, I would suggest getting one of the Abu Garcia Ambassaduer C4 reels if you want a baitcaster. You won't look like a pro angler with that ultra cool low pro reel but the learning curve on these is next to zero. Just dial in the brake knob for the size bait you fishing and simply make sure your thumb is on the spool when it hits the water and you'll be good to go. I've got a 6601 on my muskie rod and chuck baits all over the lake with reckless abandon and never have an issue. I'm sitting here wondering why I didn't just get the 5601 on my bass rod in the first place. If you don't care about left hand retrieve they make a 4600 which I think would be perfect for bass fishing. I think they're 6:3:1 which should be able to handle any situation for now.
  11. Yea, it does help thanks! I spent a couple hours with it this morning and started to get a much better feel for it. Started to notice differences and found out the dots are the indicator. For a complete noob seems that info would be beneficial in the package.
  12. There is no product info with these anymore and they don't have this listed in the manuals on their website. I bought my first baitcaster and am new to using it as well as bass fishing in general. The brake "lever" on the side has "dots", for lack of a better explanation, on one side and no dots or marks on the other end. Which one of these ends indicates where your brake is set? I moved it around while practicing and couldn't really tell any difference in the reels response. Again, I'm brand new to baitcasters so my experience is 0. Thanks.
