  2. I'm a little superstitious while I fish and just decided to quit while I was ahead. I'll definitely break it out more often, but a four pounder for that pond is about as good as you can get. The algae there is almost unbearable for anything with exposed hooks also, so I was really just lucky enough to get a bite after jerking it just a couple times before it got too crudded up. Just didn't feel like dealing with it and kind of wanted to relax after that battle

    My favorite fishing hole.
  6. So I've started off the summer not too bad at all. Averaging a few two pounders just about every time I'm out there. Today was the best of the year by far, however. I headed down to my favorite fishing hole. It's four and half acre bank only pond with some pretty decent fish in it. Started off the day fishing a Baby Brush Hog (as per usual) in my favorite sprayed grass color. Caught three in the two pound range right off the bat. Quite a good start, eh? After browsing BR last night, I realized a few lures stayed at the bottom of my tackle box totally dormant for months and even years. One of them, a KVD jerkbait, only saw action maybe once. I decided just for fun to pull it out and give it a few casts, despite plenty of algae cover. First cast, nothing. Second cast.. I feel a little tug and decide to set the hook. The fight started, and this fish could peel drag. He tried to find some weeds to hide in and even tried finding refuge down a drainage pipe. I was barely able to flip him ashore, and while laying on the bank, he spit the lure. I jumped down onto the shoreline and somehow got a hand around the tail just as he was wriggling back into the water. A few seconds later, I was elbow deep trying to get a grip on this d**n fish as it fought me (and finned me in the finger in the process...) Somehow, I wrapped it up and was able to flip it back onto the shore. With (my) blood all over my hands, the grass, and my rod, I got a weight and a quick picture. The scale showed 4.21lb, ranking second all time for me behind my 6.37lb caught a couple of years back. I decided to put the jerkbait away on that note, and went on to catch another eight fish on a combination of trick worms, more Baby Brush Hogs, and senkos. I finished the day with a total of twelve fish (another best on the year) with my buddy catching eight on the day. That'll be a tough one to beat! Lesson learned: don't be afraid to throw something random just for fun.

    Best Bass of 2016

An album of my best catches on the year.

Second on my all time personal leaderboard!
  9. I searched and got all the way back into last year and didn't see any topics for the great state of Delaware. Any other bass fishermen frequent the forums from Delaware? I'm from NCC and know of a few decent holes here and there. I'd love to network with any other people from the area and trade tips. The fishing here isn't easy but if you look hard enough you can find a few lunkers.
  10. Interesting response. I do see where you're coming from with the combination of size and number. I rarely catch anything under a pound and a half around me, but as I said, around five or six and I'm thrilled. But as you can see in the post below yours, the premise of catching over 75 bass is a possibility. For me it basically isn't.
  11. Hey guys. So in my time of just lurking around, although it's quite obvious, people have drastically different ideas of what constitutes a "good" day out on the water. However, I'm curious if this is more based on skill or where people are from, so I kind of want to survey BR (since skill levels obviously fluctuate) to see if this is true or just my imagination. For example, people from the southern United States talk about days catching 100+ bass, while that's positively unheard of for around me. My number is six bass, which might sound pathetic to some, but for the northeastern US, some people get skunked more often then not. So my question is: what's the minimum number of bass that you need to land in a day for you to consider it a successful fishing trip? I know weight is a totally different factor, and I know it varies depending on the body being fished, but just try to generalize and come up with a number. Thanks guys!
  12. Hey everyone. My name is Eric. I'm a long time lurker and have had an inactive account on here for quite some time. I'm an avid fisherman from Delaware. I've been trout and bass fishing my entire life but my addiction started a little over two years ago. I'm out there just about every day now. I've definitely caught the bug and haven't been able to shake it. I mostly wade and shore-fish, but I have a little inflatable jon boat that I take out on the water from time to time (see image; she's real cute). Look forward to talking fishing with you all!
  13. I don't see what the issue is with bringing a big Plano box with drawers is. It weighs like 6 pounds but I just set it on the bank and get to business. I move but not enough for carrying that box to be a major P.I.A.
  14. Hey guys. New around here but I have a little challenge with a local pond near me. I've fished a few ponds with light weeds and algae that are a bit of a challenge but this one takes the cake. I know that it's been a bass fishing hot spot for at least 40 years, and in that time weeds have grown absolutely rampant. They seem to be coontails or something along those lines, and they're incredibly thick. I've fished there 5 or so times and have only caught a fish my first time there. It's the fish in my profile picture and had to be at least a 5 pounder, but it was before I bought a scale so I can't be sure. That one has kept me coming back for more, because I've heard stories of 8-10 pounders lunking around in there. The weed cover, however, is legitimately impossible to fish anything that even breaks the surface. I caught the one fish there on a $3 Scum Frog topwater frog. However, after that catch, I've had probably 15+ bass bite and spit the frog before I even had time to set it. It's really frustrating me and I've since started using Ribbit soft plastic frogs with a Ribbit double take hook in them. I've had no luck with them either. What is your recommendation for topwater lure besides hollow Scum Frogs and soft plastic Ribbits? I've tried poppers and other plugs with hanging treble hooks, but even this gets caught up on the weeds, along with weedless T rigged senkos and weedless T rigged baby brush hogs. Also, What would be the most effective fishing technique around these very thick weeds? Should I target the thick weeds and just drag across the surface, or find the pockets of lighter weed coverage and target those? Thanks guys! Glad to be a member around here. Hope to hang around for awhile.
  15. I'll second this. Senkos don't seem to pull in trophy fish as consistently as some of your louder lures, but they sure as hell are reliable. When using a senko, I've never been skunked. Ever. I only get skunked when I start trying to get cute and using half my tackle box.
  16. All I do is shore fish. Boats are all the rage nowadays but you can still pull in some pretty nice fish from the shore. I've never touched a Carolina rig when bass fishing. Only when catfishing (yuck.) Honestly, using a natural colored senko on a Texas rig is a great place to start. I like to just use this and target some shady spots along the weeds and try to pull them out. Once I have a few on the board for the day I throw on a spinner or a chatter or something of the like to try to pull in a nice sized one. Good luck!
  17. 5" GY Green Pumpkinseed Senko worm on a 3/0 offset shank hook 4" Zoom Baby Brush Hog Green Pumpkinseed on a 3/0 weedless hook 3/8o brown/black chatterbait Changes with the day/location/kind of fish I'm looking for but I almost always find myself using one/some of these.
