  1. Cherokee lake.
  2. I use this combo as well and really enjoy it. It is also my first. I suggest 10 lb Trilene XL Smooth Cast. I use it and it works well.
  3. Got to your local dollar store, Walmart, Kmart where ever and buy some of the non-slip backing for rugs. It's thin and made of rubber. Good stuff.
  4. I live in the area and have fished all three lakes. SOHO (South Holston) and Watauga are the favored lakes. Watauga is the second or third cleanest lake in North America (I think that cool). Some of the local forums suggest Jacobs creek, Minton hollow, fishdam creek, browns bottom using topwater in the early morning and late evening then switching to jig-spinnerbait-and worm after dark. That's the report on SOHO. Some of the local yakkers went out this past weekend in Boone around Pickens Bridge. It's a small TWRA boat ramp on Boone. They had some good success around that area fishing for LM. Not sure what they used though. I would say they used spinners and jigs. i don't like Boone very much myself. The bottom is real rocky. All the local lakes are down right now as well. the TVA has lowered the lake levels several feet. Another good local lake it Ft. Patrick Henry. The reports from there are top waters and creature baits around creek mouths. These were late evening trip report as well. All these reports are from the past week (9/27-10/03). I'm by far no expert on fishing these lakes. I know that Watauga and S. Holston River offer some great fishing esp for Trout. Wilbur Lake in Carter County (near those you mentioned) has a great history for trout. I would also suggest Watson Marine. They are the local boat/tackle shop in the area and may have some great advice on where to go. They are super nice guys working and hanging out there. I hope this helps!
  5. Hey guys! I'm heading to HHI in a few weeks and was wonder where some good spots to fish were. I would like to try my hand at some pier fishing. I've never fished a pier and thought it might be fun. I only have a 7' spinning rod and lures and plastics for tackle. Are there any good spots to Bass fish as well? I read about Sea Pines having some good lagoons. I can't afford the charters, maybe a party boat? Any pros/cons of those? I have read up on some of the fishing laws there, so I have that much covered. I'm just looking for some personal insight from any locals or regular visitors. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!
  6. I just bought my first bait caster a few weeks ago and put 8# mono on. It has been doing OK, but I was told 12# would be better. I was given a spinning reel that doesn't have any line so I was wondering if I could spool the line off the bait caster and onto the spinning reel. Would this work? I know spinning reels have to spool on the same direction as it spools off the spool (man that's a tongue twister!). The spinning reel will support 8# and I have found some 12# mono for the bait caster. Thank for any input! Abu Garcia Black Max/Vengence Rod Mitchell Avocet II Silver Combo
  7. I might be getting this combo from Dick's Sporting Goods soon and was wondering what the experts think of this combo. I have never used a baitcaster and have been watching tube videos just to know what I'm getting into. Now I mainly fish from a kayak/bank and also wonder if would work well for me. It has a $20 mail in rebate, so that makes it even better lol! Thanks for any advice!
  8. I just recently bought this SINK. I'm looking for any input on fishing mods and diy. I have taken out once as a trial run and it was ok. I'm not worried about storage. I'm an amputee so I don't need the leg room lol! I just store everything in the bow. I plan on using it in mostly calm water and maybe a river run with class 1/2 rapids. I plan on doing some kind of anchor system, by not sure what would be the best options. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  9. Watch Bassresource videos. That's where I stated and I caught my first Bass this weekend using his advice.

  11. Not yet ST. I have been to Boone, Steele Creek and Observation Knob. I have also went to a few ponds. I have thought about checking FPH and SOHO though.
  12. I'm new to bass fishing and have never caught a Bass. I have just bought a kayak and would like to catch Bass. I fish mainly around Boone Lake and was wondering if there were other places to fish that actually had Bass in the area. I'm an amputee, so it's hard for me to get to out of reach places.
