  1. Caught it (and 3 others) on the only thing that worked that day(and I tried everything I had), a 3/8 football head jig in black and blue with matching rage craw trailer. Needless to say, I left the pond today and went directly to the nearest sporting goods store and bought more jigs. lol I've been bass fishing for only about two months now so though it's not the biggest fish, I couldn't wipe the grin off my face once I brought this pig to the bank.
  2. That also crossed my mind as well. I'm just wondering if I'm using a polymar knot at the drop shot hook, will that significantly decrease my line strength at the second bait, I typically use mono.
  3. So I've been reading up on a few different articles about drop shotting, techniques, set-up, etc. and I think to myself why not put that drop shot weight to good use and replace it with a shakey head, two baits instead of one, one on the bottom, and one hovering, and you could come up with all kinds of bait and color combos for a unique presentation. Anyways, for a moment there, I was pretty satisfied with myself for coming up with such an original and unique idea, until I googled it and found that my idea wasn't that original. Haha So anyways, I'm going to try this out sometime for sure, wondering if any of you guys have by chance and if you had any luck with it.
  4. Ah, Coast Guard. I'm a first class ET as well, but Navy (Subs). My time to fish went up ten fold when I went on shore duty so I'm doing my best to go as often as possible. So far no epic trips like yours though, hah. Any complaints with the yak? I've been looking at similar rigs for a possible future purchase. I dont have any prior kayak fishing experience though.
  5. I'm envious. I don't know what I would do with 51 hours of fishing in a single weekend heh. Awesome pics and even better fish. You said your 'chief', are you Navy by chance?
  6. After looking around quite a bit I finally found a nice spot for me and my wife to go fishing off the bank at a local pond not too far away. After fishing nothing but Senkos I thought I would give a square bill crankbait (KVD 1.5) a try that I had just picked up as I've never fished with one before. I loved the wobble action and fishing with it was a lot more interesting to me than senkos. We got there late afternoon and left just after sunset. No bites right up until the sun went down. The first was what I assumed was a Perch(it was dark) and it looked like it had a mouth smaller then the circumference of the treble hook on my crankbait. Is it normal for a small panfish to go after a crankbait like that? Anyways it was a chore getting the hook out without completely tearing up it's mouth. About 15 minutes later we were about to wrap it up I was making some quick casts as my wife was grabbing our stuff and wham, got a nice bite, and was very happy to see it was decent bass. It looked and felt bigger than what the picture shows, but it was so dark outside, and our iphone was our lone light source(bringing a headlamp next time) hence the poor pictures. Anyways, that makes my first bass from the bank, and here's hoping there are many more to come!
  7. Thanks for the warm welcome guys! And to clarify, yes, it's 'Dan', probably should've said that in the first post. heh
  8. Hey everyone! I've been frequenting the website for a while now, thought I would join the forums. Growing up in Montana and Oregon, fishing was something my family did all the time. Until recently though, I hadn't fished in over a decade or so. Recently I had the chance to go with my father-in-law three days in a row up in Maine for bass, and after catching several bass for the first time in years, I've decided I want to take up Bass fishing as a serious hobby. Anyways, it's been a little difficult finding quality spots to fish off the bank in my area, but I go when and where I can with the intent of getting some kind of fishing vessel in the near future. Anyways, I'm excited to learn more from everyone and be a part of the BR community.
