  1. If it lets you down again, go with the new Metanium. You'll be happy with a Shimano in your hands.
  2. I use both, honestly. If I'm around weeds, I like the fast action for ripping the hooks free from vegetation. Just something to keep in mind.
  3. I'm glad to see Steve win. I was watching whenever he hooked that 5-10 at the end of the day. If you listen to the replay, listen to him scream in excitement like a little girl whenever he hooked the fish and saw the size of it. You can't help but feel happy for the guy. In other news, I'm up to the 89.7% now. I was at 85.0% before this event. Menendez finishing 4th and Clunn in 18th really helped me because they were a low percentage pick, even with Christie finishing 72nd and Martens in 57th.
  4. Obviously spinning gear is the popular choice, however I am more of a casting fan rather than a spinning fan, so I'll throw my wacky rigs on casting gear. I throw mine on a St. Croix LTB71MF rod with 12-14lb. fluoro. If you are a Loomis guy, you can go with the similar rated rod. I have an IMX 803 that would work well for the application. Perhaps the MBR 843 would be a good choice too.
  5. I've moved from the 85.0% to the 89.3% already. If Menendez could jump up and finish ahead of Ike this event, that would probably put me up over 90%.
  6. I'm doing ok this event. Christie surprised me with a dud performance. Going into today, here's where my guys ranked. A. Christie - 72 B. Swindle - 31 C. Martens - 57 D. Menendez - 9 E. Clunn - 18 Buckets D and E coming on strong this event.
  7. Medium for a DT6, MH for the DT10 and DT14. It's not about what the rods rated for, it's more about the rod being able to handle the drag from a large billed lured like a DT14. Honestly, the DT14 is on the borderline for needing a heavy power. If you only have the budget for one cranking rod, get a MH cranking rod. It will still handle the DT6 and it will be good enough for light use of the DT14.
  8. It's an investment, but what's a few hundred dollars to prevent skin cancer with a few shirts, gloves, and buffs? Wear them religiously. The long sleeve stuff (Huk, UA, Columbia, etc) is not hot in the sun. Some of them even are designed to cool you the more you sweat.
  9. Check out the Dobyns Sierra 735 or the Shimano Zodias 7'2" Heavy. Both should work perfect for your needs.
  10. I know it's early, but Clunn is in 2nd place already.
  11. I stopped by F&S last night. VMC hooks were buy 3, get 3 free. I had went in to get a pack or two of VMC Neko hooks, so I ended up walking out with 6 packs of Neko hooks. Throw in the $10 coupon I had and I was out the door with 6 packs of VMC hooks for a whopping $0.50!
  12. Very small finesse baits.
  13. Keitech Swing Impact Fat Rage Tail Swimmer Lake Fork Magic Shad (regular and boot tail) Best 3 swimbaits out there.
  14. The original floating Rapala. Tried and true.
  15. 6 for squarebills. 5 for a 12'+ diver. You could get by with a 6:1, but it would be taxing for a diver that deep.
  16. That's a 62 mile drive from me in Cranberry... Zooky's in Beaver Falls is the best I've found around. Smokin Joe's on the Southside is a close second. I drive up to Anchor Bar in Buffalo 1-2 times a year (home of the original buffalo wings). Well worth the 3 hour drive in my opinion.
  17. Gotta agree with @Lures'n'Liberty. Chain restaurant wings pale in comparison to a good mom and pop restaurant. I live within 2 miles of both BWW and Quaker Steak and I can count on one hand how many times I've eaten at both in the past 3 years. I usually find myself driving 20-45 minutes to get wings worth eating.
  18. Christie Swindle Martens Menendez Clunn All of my picks have a good history on this lake. I'm hoping it pays off.
  19. If you're a bank fishermen exclusively, you're already covered.
  20. I need to do my research for this one. I'm at the 85th percentile and I'm 17th in our group. We've got a good group of guys this year.
  21. We primarily targeted walleye. However, in Canada, bass and pike just come with the territory. We caught 90 total walleye while I was there, and I had the most of our group of five guys with 29 of those walleye. One of the guys in our group was a very inexperienced fishermen who had just bought his first boat, so I spent most of the time fishing with him and running the front of his boat for him and teaching him how to run a boat and catch fish. On days where the walleye weren't cooperating was whenever I put him on spots that produced a lot of bass so that he would still have a fun time catching fish. We all know how temperamental walleye can be.
  22. Maybe so, but channels like Military Arms Channel, Hickock45, Yankee Marshall, Hegshot87, and the likes are strictly firearms and concealed carry based.
  23. I just got back from a 10 day trip to Ontario Canada (9 spent fishing). We fished two different lakes during my trip. The weather was changing every day and was making the fishing conditions tough on us the whole time. The water was 64* the day we got there, it dropped to 57* three days later, and it was 69* on the day I left. So as you can imagine, this really screwed with the bite. I caught the majority of my fish on Keitech SIF swimbaits (3.3 and 3.8") and Lake Fork Magic Shads (3.5") on a 3/8oz. swimbait head. I also caught some fish along the way on Baby 1-, Rat-L-Traps, DT's, Pointer 78's, Vision 110's and Lucky Craft DR crankbaits. The majority of our fish came in 3-7' of water in weedy flats. I racked up a lot of smallmouth and a few walleye's targetting rocky banks, islands, and main lake rock points/bars. It rained 7 of the 10 days there and that pattern seemed to stick for me. On the sunny days was whenever the jerkbait worked for me in the 8-11' creek channels off of the weedy flats.
  24. I just got back from my trip that we talked about. The big pike really started biting for us on the last few days of the trip. Keep at it. Those mature pike are powerful creatures.
  25. I don't eat fish, but my father does. He soaks them in water immediately after filleting. Then he'll soak them overnight in milk. And somewhere along the way, I know he squirts some lemon juice in with them.
