  1. I saw this line as well. I'm wondering it's the Sunline equivalent of Seaguar AbrasX.
  2. What cranks are you using to get that deep? I do a good bit of trolling for walleye and I always catch bass along the way. I'm usually fishing 10-18 feet of water though.
  3. Sounds like perfect water to throw a Cavitron
  4. It's not as exciting as it may seem lol
  5. Nothing worth keeping. Snagged and landed an entire setup fishing by a dam. Reel was rusted out and the rod tip was broken.
  6. If she's willing to spend the $130 to get you a St. Croix Premier, tell her you'll thow in $20 extra and get yourself a Dobyns Savy. I wouldn't use a Heavy power rod for your application (overkill). Medium in spinning will handle almost anything. MH if you're going to be throwing bigger lures (big cranks, spinnerbaits, large topwaters). Also, is there any reason why you want a 2 piece rod?
  7. I've always been a braid buy myself. I started using a FC leader this year and my number of hits definitely went up. I now use a FC leader on basically every setup, other than topwater. The only reel I use straight FC on is my worming rod.
  8. The HMG is a nice rod for the money, but it won't compare to an Avid. If you can afford the Avid, go for it.
  9. Is there a price range you're looking for? Or do you just want the best rod period?
  10. I never have any luck with the jointed shad raps. In fact, they're all in my box "lures that don't work". Now the standard shad raps is a completely different story.
  11. I like my Dobyns Savy. I also hear great things about the Avids and Elites, as already mentioned in here.
  12. It should handle it fine. I've thrown a 9 footer with a handle as big as a baseball bat for musky and it bombs those heavy lures out there.
  13. I have basically the same question going in a thread right now. Maybe you should give it a read. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/147007-deep-cranking-dobyns-rod-suggestions/
  14. Wow, that was quick. Looks great! I'm sure it will perform even better.
  15. I spooled up one of my Chronarch ci4's with some of this stuff towards the end of this season (40 lb test). I was very impressed, It far outperforms my beloved 832. Now to decide if I bite the bullet and buy enough to spool up my other half a dozen baitcasters with it...
  16. What parts of Ohio? I live just inside PA, but could travel. PM me some info.
  17. The advantage spinning reels give you on lures like that is the ability to cast very lightweight lures for a pretty far distance. As stated above, spinning reels have a much higher IPT retrieve than a baitcasting reel, even if they're rated the same ratio.
  18. Hmm, looks like I might be able to pick up an Avid 7' H-M brand new for half the price of a Dobyns Champion. I already have a Premier 7' M-M and an Avid X 7' MH-M cranking sticks, so I basically know what I would be getting. Would the Dobyns really be worth the extra $100 over what I can currently get an Avid for? My gut is telling me no, but perhaps you all will beg to differ.
  19. Definitely some oldies in there! Most look to be used fairly well though, so that's going to hurt value to any collector.
  20. It seems to me, more often than not, color doesn't really matter on mostly anything in muddier water, if the fish are actively feeding. Clearer water seems to be a different story. Fish always seem finickier on color in those situations.
  21. I don't eat fish, but I will keep some fish if I have friends who want some fish. I mostly keep crappies and perch if they're over 10", an occasional bass in the 12-15" range, and walleye in the 15-20" range.
  22. Most likely means that someone bought the item new. It didn't work/was broken/something was missing/etc..., so they had to return it to the factory. The factory most likely kept the faulty reel, and sent the customer a brand new reel. The factory then likely "fixed" whatever was wrong with the faulty reel that was sent in, and now, someone like yourself is looking to buy that "factory return" reel.
  23. This eight footers are probably too long for my situation. I wish I could compare the glass and graphite models side by side. I appreciate everyone's insight and advice so far.
  24. I was also debating between the two. Ended up getting the Ballistic at a hell of a deal (I believe it was a markdown error at my local shop). I haven't got to use it much other than one day. Caught one walleye with it in the river. I honestly think you can't go wrong with either reel. I've always been a Shimano guy, and so far, I'm very impressed with this reel. I got the 2000 size, primarily for crappie and for finest bass presentations.
  25. Reels: Shimano - 10 Diawa - 1 Abu - 1 Rods: Shimano - 2 St. Croix - 2 Dobyns - 2 G. Loomis - 1 Bps - 5
