  1. I find MLF entertaining, but totally agree there’s way too many small fish caught... When you see guys set the hook and say “BIG fish,” or “Giant!” only for Scoretracker to say “One Pound, 10 ounces...” something is wrong. I personally think that anything under 2 pounds is a nuisance fish and the strategy should be to change the pattern to catching a higher number of quality fish. If everyone is held to the same slightly elevated standard, it shouldn't be unfair or that difficult to adjust to... and would be more entertaining to watch IMO.
  2. I lost a Vision 110 jerkbait 2 weeks ago and spent an hour looking for it... to no avail - -?
  3. I picked up an 852 late last year and like it... curious what you didn’t care for there. Admittedly, with our short season in Minn I haven’t used it that much yet but like it for plastics, skipping, etc.
  4. I shred two pair of Simms quickly - switched to Fish Monkey... they lasted all last year and should get me through this year as well... Not only good for sun protection but lippin’ fish too - Heres what my hands look like when I forget the gloves in my car...
  5. I was out Friday as well and caught a season’s worth of buck bass that topped out at 16”. Could find a few of the big girls a week ago in mid-depths but they are tough to find now..
  6. Mother’s Day, my wife’s birthday and fishing opener all fall on the same weekend - what better gift?
  7. Perfect - Thx MNFisher! ??
  8. Pike ate the middle hook off a Shadow Rap yesterday. Other two trebles are fine so I just want to replace the one hook. Anyone know for sure brand (prob VMC), size, where to get? Thx
  9. Tastes like Chicken
  10. Wasn’t expecting walleyes on jerkbaits, but yeah..
  11. Jerkbaits working today - 3 species liked it
  12. ...and then he probably released the fish 20 seconds later..
  13. I agree. Another one on the same ilk as the Ika is Keitech salty tube...
  14. “When it gets to 59 degrees start hunting for beds. Until then.. good luck! haha“ Probably pretty close... usually the first full moon after mid-50’s water temp is when the spawn really kicks in. This year that would be May 18...
  15. I just got a Lews Custom “Plus” Speed Stick. The blank in front of the reel is the same as a 7’-0” but the handle is shorter so you don’t bounce against your side. That makes the overall length 6’-7” but I still get longer casts with it than I did my old 6’-10” rod.
  16. What pound test... would need approx 14-15 feet of line..
  17. I posted a line stretch test here a couple years ago... tested several mono, fluorocarbon and co-poly lines. Tested lines dry and after being soaked in water for 24 hours. Net result was that most fluorocarbon lines stretched more than mono when dry, but after soaking all lines in water, the mono ended up stretching about as much as most of the fluorocarbons. The line with the least overall stretch was Yo-Zuri Hybrid - it’s marketed as UV and waterproof and didn’t stretch much different after soaking. It stretched less than the other lines either wet or dry. Since Advance is marketed as “Made from HMPE and hyper co-polymer materials, the Sufix Advanced Monofilament Line Clear offers 50% less stretch and UV absorption than standard monofilament” I’ve thought about buying some, soaking overnight and doing a stretch comparison with YZH. We’ll see...
  18. Sold my St Croix AvidX and LTB’s for other rods including the less expensive but superior (IMO) Daiwa Tatula. Just as strong, sensitive, but lighter and less tip heavy. Great lineup..
  19. I tried to stay away from the rivers given the high water levels. So I fished Lake Eau Galle, 300 acre smaller body of water. Bite was decent for the first couple hours after sunrise, then way too many boats showed up on a lake this size and the bite died.
  20. I fished SW Wisconsin (Near Durand) so don’t know if this helps... Water temps started at sunrise approx 49 and rose to 52 and the air temps and sun got to around 70. But little/no weed growth. Seems we are a week to ten days behind usual (whatever that is Slow rolled Colorado blade spinnerbaits and Chatterbaits seem to get most of the activity. Nothing on jerk baits either hard or soft...
  21. I like the Owner Phantom Tube Hook for 2 reasons: 1) Weedless 2) Is center-weighted to fall with a lazy spiraling action versus most tube jigs that are front-weighted and just do a nose dive into the weeds. Heres how to rig it: cut/paste Owner Phantom Tube Hook with Justin Lucas
  22. Thx rascaIP for recommending a Lake to me today on the “Sconny” side...
  23. ??? very nice!!
  24. I like rigging them backwards... the only problem I have with that after they hit bottom, they don’t retrieve well/naturally. You have to get that quick reaction bite, after that they “corkscrew” back to the boat.
