  1. Man i am glad to hear that a plan has been put in place to better the fishing. My home lake is in need of a plan like that. It is overpopulated with bass. Most of them are small. I caught a 5 pounder earlier this year and it was a big thing because that lake doesn't have many big ones. How far is your lake from blacksburg?
  2. Have you ever fished around Lake Providence? I passed by it a few times on road trips. P.S. Don't speed in northeast Louisiana.
  3. Oh ok. How do you like that lake?
  4. Have any of you guys fished this lake before? I have always heard it's one of the best lakes in the state of arkansas to catch big bass due to the fact that that it has florida strain bass in it. I am moving back to arkansas soon and i think this lake will be my first destination. Thanks
  5. That last part makes a lot of sense to me. Having the right tackle really does play a major role in hooksets. I saw Aaron Martens set the hook like he was crappie fishing when he was dropshottig for bass and he had great hook penetration due to his tackle. Thanks
  6. You guys made some great points. Can you guys give me some tips on the sideways hookset. I am 50/50 with that one.
  7. I dig that bro.
  8. Hello, my fellow fisherman. I am normally pretty good with hooksets. I have gotten to the point where I think I can determine wether or not a bass has my lure by the tail or fully engulfed. I have fished with individuals who wait as long as 15 to 20 seconds to set the hook. I don't really wait that long. I usually wait until I can fill weight. It usually takes 3 or 4 seconds unless they are running with it. There is a certain amount of line tension that I feel when I know it's hookset time. I said all of that to say this, what is your hookset philosophy?
  9. Biggest fish I have seen was a 50 lb catfish. I know of a guy who was fishing (tight lining) in freshwater and he hooked into a huge fish an he fought for nearly 30 minutes and he gave his rod to somebody else and that guy fought until he got tired and they just gave up and cut the line after so long. They never got to see the fish though. If I had to guess, I bet it was a triple digit sturgeon. I just don't think I could have given up. I would have tried something.
  10. Define power loading for me my good sir. I thought powerloading meant excessively reving your engine and driving your boat up the trailer faster than neccesary. Can I get fined for not manually loading my boat?
  11. o ok bro. I haven't ever used a trailer with rollers. I bet it would be easier.
  12. You must have a have a heavy duty winch bro?
  13. There's a lake I fish from time to time where you aren't allowed to use an outboard motor only a trolling motor. I have seen people do it and I have done it. I would love your opinion on what is the easiest/best way to do this.
  14. I fish a small river close to my house and all of my bites are coming on the initial fall. In my past 3 trips, all of my bites have come on the initial drop, miliseconds after it hits the water. Could it be that they aren't interested in my lure or what? I have been using zoom ultra vibe worms, flukes, and trick worms. Has anybody had this happen to them?
  15. I have fished alongside my buddies and we were fishing the same jig and I caught more bass with my stop and go retrieve vs. their steady retrieve. So, I was wondering what are your favorite retrieves for swim jigs and crankbaits. ~Giggidy~
  16. *trying to catch a lot of bass.
  17. I have been fishing all of my life but this year I actually have been working on improving my bass fishing skills. The lake that I fish is not a premiere bass fishing lake. And I'm one of the only few fisherman who actually fishes for bass on that lake. I do good with flukes when I am try to catch a lot of bass. I do good with jigs when I am trying to catch bigger fish. I understand different water conditions call for different fishing tactics. But in general, what is your favorite lure/technique for catching numbers and what is your favorite lure/technique for catching big bass? ~Giggidy~
  18. Thanks, you said a mouthful.
  19. So, do you keep your drag set loose enough to where you can pull some line off the spool?
  20. It was 10 lb. mono by Stren. It was a spinning reel by abu Garcia. I can't remember the exact model.
  21. Guys, I recently lost a huge bass on the Netbait Paca Swim Jig with a black and blue Netbait Kickin B Chunk. I was fighting with the bass for maybe 45 seconds and he started pulling extremely hard so I started working the drag and the bass shot off like a rocket and shook the hook. I am new to fishing with swim jigs. Maybe. I didn't set the hook well enough. When it comes to using your drag, what are your beliefs on it?
  22. Thanks, so much guys!
