  1. I had it happen a few times, mostly on top water. I remember one tournament we were fishing on Sardis reservoir in MS back in the 80s, they had a slot limit then 14-16''. My partner had a huge strike on a spook, not much of a fight but he said it was really heavy. I net the fish and when I pull it up there are 4 fish in the net, 2 on the bait and 2 following. That was the fist cast of the day and we thought we were going to kick butt, well all the fish were in the slot and had to be released. And that was the only thing we caught the rest of the day.
  2. I found this one at a yard sale last Saturday for $8. The best I can tell is that it is a J. F. B.F. Meeks #2 circa 1845 I can't read the name on the side plate and it doesn't have the #2 below the name and the screws aren't numbered. So I don't know for sure if its a earlier reel or a little later. If anyone has any info on it please let me know.
  3. Welcome to the fray. Hope you come to enjoy this as much as I have.

  9. Yeah that works too, but not near as much fun ! You should see the looks I get going down the highway and knock on wood I haven't lost one yet.
  10. That poor cameraman, that was one tough fellow standing there letting them just yank away on the hooks. He has my utmost respect. And all KVD was worried abut was has fish turning off. What a nice guy. My hook stories are good and bad. I just had one in my index finger a couple of weeks ago and it was stuck in the first knuckle bone, I tried everything to get it to move with no luck, so off to the ER. Finally got called back after waiting for 3 hours ended up with a P.A. instead of a DR.. I had already cut the hook off at the shank so he looks at it and you can see that this is his first fish hook case, I'm thinking lucky me. He is moving it around with his finger and driving it deeper in the bone, I suggested that he numb my finger before we go any further, letting him know that this will be beneficial to both our health. So he give me the Novocain and breaks out these small hemostats that are bending every time he try's to move the hook and he just making it worst. I told him I had a good pair of needle nose out in the truck, so I go get them I come back in and he tries to push it through but it still won't move. So now that its numb I tell him to let me try I get a good grip and finally pull it out of the bone and push it through the skin and out it comes. I got the ER bill today in the mail $6,613.55 for 15 minutes in the room, no x-rays, no stitches, no morphine sent me home with 2 Band-Aids and a RX for penicillin. Now a different hook story a good one. We were fishing a club tournament on Sardis lake in MS it was a night tournament. My partner somehow managed to get 4 hooks in his hand from a crank bait and they were buried there was no getting them out. So we run around the lake looking for someone in the club to let them know we were leaving to go to the ER and would be back eventually. So load the boat and off we go to this little hospital. Its a Saturday night in rural MS and that's seems to be where everybody ends up after partying so it took awhile. They call him back and I go outside to smoke and wait, There is this off duty nurse sitting out on the smoking bench so we strike up a conversation and really hit it off, about that time my partner comes out and he is feeling no pain that had him flying. We get it the truck to head back and I tell him man if you had been back there 15 more minutes I would have been set, He calls B.S. so I turn around and go back. She was still sitting outside with a friend I go back and ask her if she likes to fish and that we are going back to the lake and is more than welcome to come. She hops in and off we go its now about 2am. So we get back launch the boat and take off. We chat and fish for awhile long enough for the morphine to put my partner out. So fishing is over and she and I became a LOT better acquainted on the front deck. So a really good time Right ? well it was until we got back to the ramp and saw every MS highway patrol car and sheriff car in the state. Her friend that had been outside with her when we came back grew concerned after she didn't return. Turned out she was the sheriffs Daughter. After what seemed like an eternity they accepted our explanation. So I didn't end up in jail. I was the talk of the club for months. What fun you can have fishing.
  11. Has anybody used these before ? its something new and improved
  12. Hello ? Hello? I never can get a dial tone on this thing. 56 years young
  13. I bought a Abu Garcia REVO Toro NaCl Generation 3 this year and love it, holds a lot of line and cast like a dream. I use it for swim baits and crank baits.
  14. Wool. It retains heat even when it gets wet. I worked for the Y.M.C.A. when I was in high school and we took the kids on a canoe trip on the Spring river in AK one year, the water was higher than normal that summer. I had a young boy about 8 and very small for his age in my canoe we were both wearing our lifejackets. Even though I never wore one on that river before, I was a lifeguard and water safety instructor and a very strong swimmer. We came around a bend and had 3 choice to take where the river split, I chose the fast side the kid got scared and stopped paddling and before I knew it we had lodge against a tree that was growing out of the bank, the canoe rolled under the tree taking me with it. The next thing I know my life jacket is hung on the tree with me in it and a very strong current pushing me down, I can't get loose from the tree or get out of the jacket. So there I am stuck underwater running out of air, you know how they say your life will flash before your eyes when you are dying ? its true I remember seeing everything I had done. Somehow the kid had managed to get on the tree when the canoe rolled, I looked up and saw him standing there with tears running down his face. Finally he reached down and grabbed the collar of the jacket and pulled me up all 6'7'' 220 lbs. of me how he did it I'll never know I'm just glad he did. I am forever grateful that Eric was there. But even with that I always wear my lifejacket and my sure its connected to the kill switch. I'm glad both or stories had happy endings.
  15. Its bent. Try holding it up so you can look at the way the blade is aligned with the hook and how the lower wire is also aligned.
  16. Something new in a different type of craw pattern. I just ordered a couple of these today. Anybody used this before ?
  17. The best boat bar none Allison XB-21 Check out their facebook page. look at cost of ownership. You can fit a full size person in the front or rear storage. The closest Allison dealer to you would be in TN and I have owned 2 of their boats and never had a problem that had to be taken to the dealership, the most likely problem you would have would be with the outboard, and you can have whatever brand you chose serviced at any dealership of that outboard brand. Now all you need is about $80 k laying around and you all set.
  18. Jimmy Stewart/John Wayne The man who shot Liberty Valance Vivian Leigh
  19. No split rings on any of these. If I don't want to tie a loop I use these instead They hold up very well and give the bait all the room it needs to do its thing. I just noticed that the lower right does have a split ring so I guess some do some don't
  20. 21. Great White for sure, be careful they bite!!!
  22. Top water !!! Buzz bait or a poes cedar ace in the hole after a good tuning of the blades. Nothing in the world sounds like those once you have the blades bent just right.
  23. My favorite is a D & M double hammer followed by a D & M slow roller I also like lunker lures. The one thing I make sure I have are clockwise and counterclockwise blades on buzzbaits, that way when I throw it around a stump or tree I can throw one on the right side and then the other on the left side so it will run up to the stump or tree and climb all the way around the base. To get them ready to fish I hang them on my truck antenna and drive to the lake, by the time I get on the water they have a great squeak.
  24. Megabass Z-CRANK X These have held up well for me. They also have the circuit board bill
