  1. thank you.
  2. My dad just bought a helix 9 si and called HB to upgrade the transducer about 2 weeks ago. He paid over the phone with a CC. Is he supposed to send his non hd transducer in first or when the HD one shows up do you just take it out and put the old one back in and ship it back? He thought the lady told him the process but he forgot.
  3. It is not from humminbird, but walmart. it says factory refurbished. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Refurbished-Humminbird-859ci-HD-Combo-859ci-HD-Combo/50226133
  4. My dad is thinking about buying a factory reconditioned 859. It only has a 90 day warranty vs the standard 2 yr. Does anybody have experience with a factory reconditioned unit? What kind of condition was it in? clearly used or looked like new? Any problems?
  5. I have been wanting to add a unit to the bow for a while. I have toyed with the idea of just a second power cable and transducer and moving the unit back and forth or just buying a helix 7 sonar only. I think I might just get a helix 9 because of autochart live. Either sonar or DI, not sure yet, and put that at the console and then put my 899 up on the bow. Now this is my understanding of networking but before I pull the trigger I want to make sure I am thinking about this right. If I network them together I can share transducers. If I run the Helix 9 at the console can I see SI from the 899 and with my 899 on the bow can I see the sonar/DI from the helix 9 transducer I plan to mount of the TM? If not and I have to put the helix 9 on the bow so that it can use the TM mounted sonar/di transducer, can I still generate live maps and then auto save them to a zero lines card from the SI transducer? Thanks
  6. I would have my si tranducer on the transom like a typical setup. I would buy a second transducer and mount to the TM. When I start fishing I can just power down the unit, unhook the power and rear tranducer, mount the unit on a second ram ball, plug in new power cable and transducer. Now i have a unit reading off the TM, if we go to drive somewhere else the just reverse the process.
  7. Or since would a second transducer mounted on the trolling motor be a more cost effective solution.
  8. I have a 17.5 ft seanymph and is layed out like a great lakes walleye boat rather that a bass boat, deep and more room behind console and smaller bow deck vs large bow deck and little area behind console. I currently have a 899 hd si on my console and have been turning it around to us it while at the bow. I want a unit for my bow for jigging and dropshotting. I am looking at either the helix 7 sonar only(non GPS), helix 7 sonar/di only(non GPS) or the 859 hd. Not really considering the helix 7 GPS/sonar or helix 7 GPS/DI because they are priced the sames as the 859 and I really like the preset soft buttons of the 800 series but if the masses can make a argument then I am open to changing my mind. I have no intention at this time to upgrade my trolling motor to an ipilot link. The helix is cheaper/brighter but I would still have to use my 899 for GPS and mapping. The 859 would be able to network with my 899, has GPS, would be easier to use ipilot link if my current trolling motor goes **** up, and would allow me to move the 899 to stay pointing towards the rear of the boat to allow other people to use it for jigging/dropshotting, or would there be interference between the two unit running at the same time? So the way I see my choices are cheaper and no GPS or more money, GPS and networking (which I don't fully understand the functionally of other than sharing waypoints.) Anybody have a similar situation and can share their insight.
  9. I am glad you said that is the mount you went with. That is the same mount I am looking at. Not knowing where you mount it, do you think this would be a good mount to use for both console and at the bow by just pivoting the mount? How do you like the 899ci?I was hoping to get out this weekend but we are starting to ice.
  10. I just picked up the same model and am looking at the same mount. I want to swing it around so I can use it from the front too. Can you let me know what you ended up going with?
  11. I don't any st. Croix but I do have 2 IMX. A SJR843 and a MBR843. Both are 7' MHF and they are great. I fish bottom jigs on the MBR and swim jigs on the SJR
  12. Why do some guys run super heavy line? I am talking 30 lb +. With 20 lbs of drag being on the extreme end of most bass tackle the drag will give long before the line. What difference does it make between 30 lb and 60 lb? Thanks
  13. I have a calcutta b (japan) and a stradic fj (maylaisia) and the have both been great. I took a fall hard this winter chasing steelhead. Broke my loomis rod, reel is fine.
  14. I used to use only spinners in my younger days. My fishing buddy still fishes spinners almost exclusivly. Last time out I was throwing a #4 vibrax orange&black for pike and picked up a personal best 5 lb 9 oz LMB.
  15. RW Thanks for the direction. This is what I was looking for. Now to get out and catch some fish.
  16. OK, now I am more confused. After reading more online I am not sure if I want a M/F or a M/M or MH/M or a MH/MF. The falcon rods feel nice but not great. Maybe because I only ever buy IMX MH/F. It seems when ever I grab a rod off a rack that is what follows me home. Am I right in my logic or do I need to step out of my comfort zone and try something new? I just I am having trouble with the difference with a MH/M and a M/F and what the strengths and weaknesses of each flex profile would be for what I am trying to achieve.
  17. Can someone get me pointed in the right direction. This is my first year for alot of things, multiple rods, bait casters, and a variety of tackle. For the last 15 years I only fished in line spinners, buzz baits, and scum frogs. I only used a G.loomis IMX SJR 843 that has lately had a stradic FJ 3000 w/20lb suffix 832 on it. I also picked up a G.loomis MBR843c and a falcon low rider 4-17 MM or 5-17 MHMF or a st croix premier PC70MM. For reels I bought an Abu C4 5601 and a shimano Calcutta 201b. Both are spooled with 14lb mono until I get the casting bugs worked out. New for this year I have spooks, spinners, lip less and square bill cranks from 1/4 to 5/8 Oz, a variety of jigs from 1/8 Oz shakey heads to 3/4 oz football, 5" senkos, 1/4 Oz t rig weights, hard and soft jerkbaits, some beaver, lizard and crayfish plastics. TLDR: G.loomis IMX SJR 843s w/stradic 3000 20 lb 832 G.loomis IMX MBR843c Falcon low rider 4-17 MM or 5-17 MHMF or St croix premier PC70mm Abu C4 5601 with 14lb mono Shimano Calcutta 201b with 14lb mono Spooks, spinners, scum frogs, jerkbaits both hard and soft, lip less and square bills, jigs, t rigs, senkos, beavers, lizards and crayfish plastics. What rods should go with what reels and what setups should fish what baits? Thanks.
  18. Does anybody have experience with any of these rods? I am looking them for squarebills and lipless cranks. The 4-17 MM feels light for medium, it is only rated 1/4-1/2oz and the 5-17 might be to heavy and fast for treble hooks. Also considering the premier crankbait rod in 7' but I can't find it to put hands on it. I have only fished G.loomis IMX MHF before and lost too many fish on treble hooks, not sure if they are tossing or pulling out so I figure I want something softer. I have a fistful of cabelas points so if you can recommend something other than these 3 rods that cabelas offers please speak up. Thanks
  19. I have been using quantum hot sauce grease on gears and oil on bearing in my spinning reels without problem. Tried it on my baitcasters but haven't fished them yet. I also have a tub of cal's drag grease to try also.
