  1. So theres a reservoir right by my house that I do a lot of bank fishing at. There is usually a ton of bass, perch. there are usually also a ton of blue gill that you can see swimming through the grass and in the open circles of vegetation near the shore. Well, the res was this way before I went on a two week trip to arizona. When I got back yesterday and went to do some fishing there was almost no sign of life. after three hours of fishing I finally caught a small large mouth on a bluegill swimbait, but besides that catch, not a single bite. What happened? could there possible be something wrong health wise with the reservoir?
  2. Whats really unfortunate is that the dicks in my area does not like to follow the fishing gear clearance sale trend. This bugs me a lot, and is kind of odd considering the store is a 6 minute drive from a 5420 acre lake.
  3. to be honest I don't understand the way you grouped the baits into the two categories
  4. If it means anything I know that 30lb braid has the diameter of 8lb monofilament
  5. This is a personal opinion but I really do not like using a double hook on the horny toads. Due to their size I like to stick to a 5/0 screw in hook. As for colors, I have found that the white toads work really well with a red hook. Other than that I would go with black. I know nothing about flukes
  6. best way to hold them?
  7. I figured that out after a thorough investigation of the fish
  8. bought my first crankbait. A kvd 1.5 in gizzard shad. Took it down to the reservoir behind my house and fished it for an hour or so. Ended up catching two fish. a pound and a half large mouth, and a really nice yellow perch, which happened to be my first one. I wish I had a scale and measuring tape ( let me know if any of you have length estimates). By the way, dont make fun of me for the work glove. I had head stories about sharp barbs on the gill plates, and I had no idea if they had teeth or not.
  9. I was fishing the reservoir by my house when I met a guy who said he caught a 25 inch bass, and was going to keep it, so he used his boot lace as a stringer. somehow the fish dislodged the the boot lace from shore and swam off. The guy asked me to hang the shoelace up on the fence near the shore as a trophy if i even catch a big bass with a shoe lace tied to his face.
  10. medium size senko or stick worm, wacky rigged and weightless, throw it into the pockets of open water within the weeds, or a spot where it could fall through the weeds without much trouble.
  11. Just wondering what everyones favorite soft, solid body frog is. Ive been using the zoom horny toad for a while and not overly impressed. So im curious to hear what everyone else is in to (frog, color, rigging set up, etc). the only thing i can say for the horny toads is that white seems to work better than the darker colors (for me at least)
  12. Worst fishing experience happened to me today. I walked across the street to my neighbors house, down through his back yard onto a short trail to a city reservoir. After fishing for a while a woman walked by with her dog who I knew (I was old friends with her daughter), we talked for a while, and she walked on. about 10 minutes later I heard someone screaming my name. I immediately dropped my rod (thank god not into the water) and ran over, at the other side of the dammed area was the one with her head and face covered in blood. I still don't know the whole story but some how she fell onto a pile of rocks and cut her head open pretty seriously in multiple spots. Luckily, I had been in the scouting program for about ten years so knew exactly what to do (call 911, preform first aid, which ruined one of my favorite t shirts, kind of bummed but i cant complain). Ended up having to sprint back up the trail to the roads to find the paramedics. She seemed like she was going to be ok she was just freaking out pretty badly. pretty scary experience. to make matters even worse, before this happened I lost my new buzz plug to a tree limb, and I had only caught 2 very small large mouths. I may go back tonight but it seems like a bad *** haha
  13. Its not because I have more confidence in top water fishing, but I always start out topwater. If its a weeded area with a decent amount of open water I'll either throw a zoom horny toad or my arbogast buzz plug. If its more dense or theres a lot of lilys, ill throw my pad crasher. Theres nothing more fun than topwater.
  14. for day time, Ive figured out my own method of how to fish this lure. Throw it as far as you can down the side of a bank or down the side of heavy cover, put your rod tip down and retrieve it as quickly as you can, and try to make a huge wake. then throw it back to the same spot and reduce your retrieval speed by about 30 percent. just keep throwing it back to the same general area and try different speeds. Its worked for me so far
  15. Found myself out in the rain today exploring some new potential spots. Didn't have a single bite at any of the three ponds I went to today. Im trying to figure out if theyre just crummy spots, or if the rain had anything to do with it. Any thoughts or experiences with fishing in the rain?
  16. The only thing I will say is that I hooked up with 4 fish, and one was able to toss the hook. 75% isnt terrible.
  17. Finally got it out to the pond today. Worked like a charm. Not to go against anyones opinion or experience, but when I threw this thing in a pond that was completely covered by a layer of green film (we all know summer ponds like that) It was like a magnet.
  18. ahh thank you. I have a bad habit of neglecting the search function.
  19. Just picked up this lure from pass pro coming back from penn. I haven't gotten a chance to use it, but I will by the end of this week. I was just wondering if you guys have any experience with it? Im not sure if im just the "target audience" for arbogasts marketing, But with the size, shape, buzz effect, and the rattle, It seems like it would be hard not to attract fish with this lure. What do you guys think?

    Favorite Frog

My favorite is definitely the pad crashed. Color doesn't really matter, the only thing that matters is the color of the frogs belly. Black has been working the best for me.
  21. Thanks brother
  22. are these good shore access spots
  23. I'm also in for July
  24. What is your personal reason for changing out the hooks? Ive heard a lot of people say that they downsize the hook to try and curb the amount of weed fishing they do. Its a great lure but I have to say, if there are any weeds of vegetation even close to the surface of the water, either the trebles or the front piece of metal will find a way to pick them up. And ive noticed (at least on the 1/4 lure) and added weight at all, even the smallest amount of pond scum, completely ruins the action.
  25. Yes I should have included the fact that it is a spinning rod
