  1. http://hartford.craigslist.org/boa/4629694621.html im not sure if its actually sold. hes listed and relisted it a few times. still looking for opinions just in case its not sold.
  2. Lol then it was sold literally minutes after I posted the link. Probably for the better
  3. Never owned a boat before. do you guys think this is a good buy? Would I actually be able to stand steadily on either of the casting decks? let me know, and hopefully no one in the area snipes this away from me... http://newlondon.craigslist.org/boa/4597678237.html
  4. im definitely a frog guy. I prefer the solid body buzz frogs because theyre more versatile to me (I can swim them under the surface like a swim bait and they still get hammered). However besides the frogs my favorite topwater lure in the arbogast buzz plug.
  5. No matter how much, or how little money is involved, a man is only as good as his word..
  6. Do you use a skinker or a floater?
  7. Ive been trying to track one down for a while. Ive seen a few things written about them on here but not much in very great detail. I was wondering if anyone here who has one could share their opinion. by the way, Ive been checking the sight for a couple months now and mattlures has not updated their inventory of hardgills. Anyone know anything about that?
  8. seems like it uses a good bit of line. Plus, the way the anchor system is designed, I don't think they could integrate it into an offset worm hook very effectively, which is what most of us use most often. seems interesting, maybe someone really has a use for it.
  9. A few mom and pop stores, besides that, nothing. However there is a Bass pro shops megastore opening in january in bridgeport conn. The only downside is that its 50 minutes away from me ):
  10. Thanks for the feedback guys. i totally get what youre saying. Im gonna lay low for a while, and see what happens. and I understand the enthusiast is going to be able to get what they need, either at another store or online. That being said, my suggestion idea wasn't exactly to revamp the entire department ( although thats what I dream of ), my suggestion would be to just bring in some quality combos at mid price range, and a few other things in low quantity just as an experiment to see how they sell. anyways, I'll start paying more attention to customer feedback on the section and see what they think (when I can get over there that is, im currently stationed in the footwear department )
  11. I should have explicitly stated that I was for sure going to wait until I was more established to talk to management. Although the point of the open door policy (from my understanding) is that you cant be fired for sharing your feedback or suggestions, however it would be pretty embarrassing to get shot down as the stupid new kid. as far as the buying goes, the company hq is out of Pittsburgh so you were close. The soft bait section is pretty reasonable, although I find it odd that the only rage tail product we carry is the craw, considering this is Connecticut and crawfish are not primary forage (although they are present). Pretty good collection of frogs too.
  12. The fishing section is actually pretty big. However at least half of it is salt water. I live far inland ct, and the sound is 45 minutes away at the closest point, and the store location is 8 minutes from a huge lake full of large and smallies, plus its 15 minutes away from some good size lakes full of pike and walleye. Im not fishing legend or marketing expert I just feel like that section would do a lot better expanding on the freshwater section (bass specifically) and possibly trimming some of the poor selling salt gear.
  13. so im newly employed at dicks, and dont get me wrong, my local location has a pretty decent fishing section (wish they would have a better selection of swimbaits), however I don't feel they stock the right rods. For some reason they only have 3 different cast combos stocked, all right hand retrieve, and expensive. In the reel section, they only have a few bait casters stocked. they actually do have a nice rod selection, however I really think they would benefit from cutting down on the dime a dozen spinning reel combos they stock, and adding some more mid range casting combos and reels. There is an open door policy for employees at dicks giving us the opportunity to make suggestions to the upper management. Should I bring my thoughts forward? if so, how should I go about this? the only reason I feel like this is kind of a big deal is due to our stores proximity to one of the largest and most productive lakes in the state (less than 8 minutes from a very popular launch). what do you guys think?
  14. the idea behind jointed lures obviously is that the joints are supposed to give the lure more action. When its done properly, the action is increased. However in my opinion there are a lot of cheaper jointed lures (especially swimbaits) that just dont really increase the action that much. one example i have of this is my opinion on the stormy kicking slab (which ive never gotten to run straight to this day) really not much action in those joints.
  15. I definitely agree with the fact that from underneath, the actually body doesn't look any different from a frog, the only thing that I like on the mouse better than the frog is the long, thick (in comparison to frog skirts) rubber tails. If you can get some good action going in that tail they love it
  16. actually yes. I went out at around 3 when I had the white shirt and hat and my hoorag because it was pretty sunny, fished for a while, and eventually had to go back and help my brother and grandpa with some house work for an hour or two, and needed to change shirts by the time i got back to the pond (which is right in my back yard, at around 6, hence why its not as bright.
  17. To celebrate my new job at dicks, I decided to splurge on a live target field mouse (i originally didnt feel the need to spend 11 on one). However, im extremely happy that I did. pulled these two out on my first afternoon at the farm pond with it. The first was open water while walking, the second came from dragging it over mats of algae.
  18. Im going out on a boat with a friend of my grandfather in september for a ct bluefish tournament. I have never been after bluefish before. I also know that obviously my bass rods wont be fit so what exactly do I need in terms of rods, reels, and tackle to go after bluefish, without breaking the bank?
  19. I also think its fair to say that a lot of people throw topwater out of necessity. Like myself. I live next to a pond with so many weeds and vegetation and algae, I cant really throw much else. However I must admit that even if the water was more subsurface bait friendly, I would probably favor topwater. theres nothing better in the realm of fishing (in my opinion) than when a bass hits your frog from under the mats.
  20. I agree with not beating a dead horse when theyre not biting the frogs, however this pond is so weedy and so much subsurface algae that its hard to throw anything that isnt topwater.
  21. So this morning I headed out to a very weedy pond behind my house at around 5:30. fishing from then until 6:45, I only managed to catch this small one (I decided to leave early because I heard a bobcat pretty close by). one night last week around 6pm the frog bite was ON FIRE, but besides then its been pretty dead. Does the frog bite pick up in the fall at all? We've had a recent cold front (Connecticut), does that have to do with anything? any help would be much appreciated.
  22. besides the problem of actually getting her to come out with me, ive had similar issues with my girlfriend. Shes pretty athletic but shes only 4'11 so I have her on my 5'5 spinning rod. the problem is that its a really soft rod, and ive had a hard time trying to convey to her that she needs to do more than just reel in and flick her wrist a little to set the hook.
  23. so im newer to swimbait hooks, Ive been using screw in hooks, but I recently got these hooks online, mistaking them for screw in hooks and I have no idea how to rig with them/ can anyone help me out?
  24. youre probably right, its just weird because you can see some blue gill nests just a few feet from shore, and theyre always teeming with fish, not a single one today, pretty strange.
