  1. This sounds like it would be a pretty interesting place to throw a baby bass swimbait.
  2. thanks ajay
  3. caught this baby on a reins bubble shad swimbait on a booyah boo rig. slow rolled it about 15ft deep on the bottom along the back of a pumping station at a local reservoir. this dude inhaled it. no idea what it weighed. maybe some of you have an idea.
  4. Laughing at some oddly specific answers. I'm a shore fisherman, so most of my outings are only 5 hours or so. I'll be picking my buddy up in about three and a half hours, and we'll probably stop for a bacon egg and cheese on the way to the Rez. As for bringing stuff to the water, it's usually a couple big bottles of water, a Gatorade, and some sort of small snack or candy, preferably peanut m&ms or local jerkey. When I do get out in the water though I'll usually stop at nardellis (curious to see if anyone lives by one of these)
  5. Looking to put together a budget, dedicated shakey head/ drop shot rod. Found a 6'6 m southbend eclipse. I know most guys use a medium light, but this rod seems to have a ton of tip. I was planning on pairing it with a shimano Sedona that's on sale at dicks for 39.99, and spooling up with some 6lb flouro clear. Any thoughts? I only have one legit spinning combo (prefer my baitcasters), it's a 7ft medium Duckett ghost with a Lews tournamnet pro, but I want to keep this rod freed up for my smaller tubes, easy shiners, weightless senkos, etc.
  6. You guys wouldn't belive the amount of times my buddy and I have had wake larders come withing 20 yards of us near the boat launch of the lake we fish with a 12 ft flat bottom Jon boat. It's absoloutly absurd. They have an 8.5 square mile lake to wake board yet they choose to buzz by and throw around a johnboat with their wake in a low wake zone. Unbelievable.
  7. In Connecticut, young boys who are bored of baseball in the spring play lacrosse. I've been playing for many years, probably since I was 6 or 7, and until I finished high school it was a year round affair. Since I chose to go to a d1 school, and am not quite good enough to play on the varsity team, I am playing for the club team which is only 2.5 months in the spring. I'm pretty relieved to have all fall to fish.
  8. What is your favorite top water lure? (who makes it, price, where you bought, color?) favorite topwater is a walking bait. I have always been a heddon spook guy,but I have recently taken a liking to the kvd sexy dog jr. I always fish the junior size, and colors are either sexy shad or bone. Everywhere you look youll find at least one of these two lures for 6-8 bucks. Under what circumstances will you throw any type of top water lure? may -november, the only time I dont fish them is 11am-3pm, and I will throw under almost any condition. my favorite time to throw this bait is dawn/dusk when the water looks like glass and the shad/alewife are hitting the surface. What do you throw when there's vegetation underneath the surface? if the vegetation is sub surface, I stick with my walking baits. Every once and a while I will throw a popper or a jointed jitterbug for real low light conditions (black color of course). What do you throw when there is duckweed or lily's on top? Either a pad crasher or a horny toad. Are there any top water lures you've tried that you do NOT suggest? Dakimi air frog
  9. to join the echo chamber; both have a time and a place. No matter how much I love my baitcasters, I ALWAYS have one spinning rod with me. I see a lot of people saying they like spinning gear for jerk baits, topwaters, and shallow running crankbaits. I use to feel the same way before I got into bait casters, and now the only bait with a constant retrieve that I can tolerate using on a spinning rod is a keitech easy shiner on a 1/8 head for smallmouth. All of my cranking, jerkaiting, and top water fishing has to be done on a baitcaster.
  10. I just realized I bumped an old form. I did a Google search, found this thread, read it, and left it open on my iPad for the day. Came back, decided to respond, forgetting its two years old. Sorry guys
  11. I usually only have 4: 7ft medium heavy pro max for finesse jigs and soft plastics. 7ft duckett ghost medium cranking rod 7ft duckett ghost medium spinning rod for tubes, shakey head, and drop shot. 6ft 6 ugly stik gx2 with braid for my jigs and pitching (will soon be upgrading to a 7-7ft 3 heavy action duckett ghost) If I had to add one more, it would probably be some sort of medium fast action casting rod, probably 7ft.... And probably a duckett.
  12. how about one of those led crankbaits? triggers "biologically induced strikes."
  13. before I answer this, what length and power would you buy, and what would be the main purpose of this rod?
  14. my favorite is the zoom old monster. There are 3 ways I rig it. I will always throw it either weightless, t rigged on a 3/16 ounce tungsten weight pegged with a bobber stop, or on a 3/8 ounce swinging football head jig. I do however want to start experimenting with the 10 inch power worm, as well as the culprit 10 inch worm. btw I throw all my big worms on either a 4/0 or 5/0 hook, I like the trokar extra wide gaps.
  15. the stretch of mono keeps you from ripping small trebles out of a fishes mouth, and it also helps to keep constant pressure on the fish, keeping it from throwing the hooks as easy. Also since mono floats, your less likely to get your line caught up in the trebles during the retrieve, which can be a problem when using braid on poppers. frogs are best suited on heavy braid and a stiff rod, thrown in places of heavy vegetation or cover. I throw my frogs on 50lb braid and a 7ft medium heavy rod. Poppers are better suited for open water without much floating vegetation, or thrown around cover. I usually will not go over 3/8 oz on poppers and throw all of mine of a 7ft medium moderate action cranking rod.
  16. top water bit on c wood has been hot. Spooks over flats and points have produced some nice smal lies.
  17. This I've never had to deal with their cs but some of the customers that have come to me have, and they have reported nothing but good customer service from them. I'm right there with you with my love of duckett rods. I plan to eventually only use ghost rods for both spinning and casting, with a few micro magics thrown in there.
  18. Blue smoke Gizit tube on a 1/8 tube head. 2lbs flat.
  19. as a duckett fan, I do not have a problem with this. It's his opinion, simple as that. however, I would be more apt to be upset at duckett over this story if it wasn't for the dozens and dozens of fantastic customer service stories I have heard from other Duckett customers. Someone on this form recently got two rods (I think they were ghosts) replaced no questions asked because the white was starting to wash into an egg color. He had had the rods for at least a year If i remember that correctly. No offence to the op, but im willing to beat the guid and tip breaks either came from the inside of/door or a car, or the rods were just older and past their warranty. If the latter is true, nothing lasts forever....
  20. 4inch Keitech easy shiner on a 1/8 ounce jig head.
  21. If the shallows are pock marked with a dozen or so different small beds then its most likely bluegill beds, especially if theyre only a few feet off shore. The bass beds tend to be larger, more spread out, and further from the shore line (not deep by any means, just not right against land).
  22. by big bass lure, are you referring to lures that catch big bass, or bid lures specifically that catch bass.
  23. that explains it. thank you.
