  1. Hey guys, So im newer to topwater fishing (and any bass fishing really that isn't soft plastics) and I have been having trouble with the jitter bug I recently bought. Its the original, and its a 1/4 ounce lure and it feels too light. Even on regular 6lb mono im having trouble getting good casting distance. any suggestions??

  4. (if this is in the wrong category let me know, Im not sure if it would be under experiences or not) Today while fishing the pond in the woods behind my house, I decided to use my pad crasher that I had just gotten at dicks. I had to use my brothers surf pole since my rod did't have very heavy line. On the fourth cast a pretty large fish took the frog. When I set the hook, I quickly discovered that the drag was almost off (not sure why he would have turned it down so far, but I should have checked anyway), I quickly tightened the drag and set the hook. When I got the fish in it was about a 4 and 1/2 pounder. The problem is that he had the frog too long and got hooked in the lower gills near his spine. Took a while to get the frog out, and from the blood I wasn't sure if he would make it. He swam off half assed and im more than sure he died within a few minutes (too many weeds to see if he floated up). For some reason I feel really bad that this happened. Am I just a strange guy? anyone else had similar experiences?
  5. Hey guys. Im a senior in high school and I'm from the western Connecticut/New york border area. Ive been fishing for as long as I can remember, but it was mostly an on and off thing, and took place mostly in saltwater. Only in the past few months have I discovered how much I love bass fishing. I was that kid that didn't understand why there were tv shows about guys fishing some lake until I caught the obsession myself. I mostly fish in small ponds, such as the one behind my house (there are six pounders in there). But my future fishing plans are to acquire a cheap john boat or aluminum boat so that I can fish Candlewood lake in Ct. It has a place called Lattins cove which is supposed to have some premier bass fishing. Any ways thats it, if anyone knows any insider stuff about fishing in the area I mentioned let me know. Thanks! Colt
