  1. I was just telling my old year old son about this yesterday. He is just now getting into fishing and I told him how I would wake up at like 4am to watch Roland, Bill Dance and the other guys. I don’t even know if f those types of shows exist anymore….
  2. Nice setup. I've been thinking about getting a milkcrate and attaching some rod holders. The only problem I'm having is that my storage area is to far back I don't think id be able to reach everything very easily. I have an Emotion Grand Slam Angler.
  3. I love spinnerbaits and they are always my go to bait. I would use white with a Colorado blade. The retrieve I've had the most success with is reel five times pause for a two count then repeat.
  4. I recently also started fishing again. The Sport sure has gotten high tech in just the last ten years. I have a pretty stressful and emotional job and fishing gets me away from all that. I fish out of a kayak and love it.
  5. I broke my wrist a few years back so casting for hours at a time can take its toll . I purchased a lighter reel last year so now I'm good for about five hours.
  6. That's great that you guys have that in common. My wife will go with me sometimes but I know it's not her thing.
  7. Enphrared, fishing at James A Reed can be tough but it's a great place to walk the bank. I do t live to far from there. Shoot me a message next time you go out if you want someone to fish with.
  8. I fished a strip pit recently that was covered with lilly pads all around the edges. I had alot of explotions on a Booyah pad crasher but I was unable to bring one in. I switched to a buzzbait and just casted along the edges and had alot of success.
  9. Nice!! Gotta love those ponds!
  10. Went to Lake Lenexa for the first time today. Only caught two small bass on a swimjig but pulled in about 50lbs of vegetation. That lake is covered in vegetation. From what everyone there was saying it's always like that. Still not a bad little lake and great for kayaks.
  11. Went to Poague CA last night and picked a strip pit that was covered in Lillypads all around the edges. I decided on using my Booyah Pad Crasher that I had just bought recently . I have never used a frog before but I made it my goal this year to get out of my comfort zone since I almost always fish spinnerbaits or A 7.5 worm texas rigged. I watched a lot of videos on the way to use a frog and It seemed to be getting a lot of interest with numerous explosions on it but I don't know if I was setting the hook to early or to late but I was unable to hook into one. So I got the d**n thing stuck in the tree and had to break my line, luckily the frog fell right in my kayak so I didn't lose it. I decided to tie on a buzzbait and caught numerous smaller bass and nothing spectacular. Not even one of them went for 2#s. So far since deciding to learn new techniques and using different lures like the senko, shakeyhead and wacky rig, it has been a tough season so far. I think I will come out better in the end but d**n it's hard right now.
  12. Summer just means fishing alllll night long!!!
  13. I've been wanting to get my yak out on a river as well. I've been looking at doing a two day trip on the buffalo river but haven't pulled the trigger yet.
  14. Im kind if an outlaw yakker like that. I **** to live in the edge lol jk. My buddy lives on the lake and I usually just put in from his back yard. All the residents do it and I haven't ever seen them get hassled. I think im going to wake up and go to Truman in the morning. Hopefully the fish will cooperate! The last reports I got looked rough going so we shall see!
  15. I didn't realize that they didn't open the gate till 8. I dont usually put in at the ramp. One of the luxuries of having a kayak. I guess they dont open it earlier because of the houses? I would have guesses they opened at 6. I hate the gates all together. I wish They would just do away with them.
  16. I'm going there to fish tonight. I'll see if I can take a peek over there and find out.
  17. You can pick up a pretty decent used kayak for a few hundred bucks. I as lucky. I have a 1200 kayak I picked up for 400. It there's notice g wrong with having a johnboat either. It looks like you slay the fish anyway. Every time I go to bass pro I drool over the Z6. My wife almost bought one for me for Father's Day. I'm glad she didn't because I would just have to work more off duty to pay for it lol.
  18. I love my kayak but I can't talk any of my friends into getting one and sometimes it would be nice to have a buddy to go with. A lot of people think that they are very unstable but I have a sit in top and have never turned it over or lost any of my gear. (Knocking on wood right now)
  19. I fished out in the heat of the day today. It was about 90 degrees. I caught everything on a Texas rigged 7.5 worm.
  20. I'm also a kayak fisherman and it's rough fishing in the summer. I've been thinking about getting a fish finder to help me know what depth I'm fishing.
  21. I've always just used turkey liver. It says on a little better than chicken liver.
  22. I've been kayak fishing for the last couple years by myself. Wanting to meet other kayak fisherman to get together with to go fishing.
  23. We'll I was gonna get the kayak out today and hit Jacomo but the wind was pretty strong today so I decided to hit the bank and go to James A Reed. I caught about four decent bass with a 7.5 Culprit fire and ice worm. I was gonna go home but decided to head over to Jacomo. I went around Ligget Cove and caught a few decent ones. I really didn't catch anything to brag about but I've been in a slump lately so it was just nice to catch fish!
  24. I don't use any lights while I'm actually fishing. Once you are out there for a but, you will get use to where the bank is. Plus go when you have moon. You will be surprised how much it lights up your surroundings. I always have my headlamp near by. I have one that has regular led, blue or red lights.
  25. I have a kayak and canoe and my canoe just sits in my garage. I've been thinking about getting it out to take some friends fishing because it gets old fishing by yourself all the time.
