  1. hey everyone, quick question... I have a 6'6" medium action spinning rod for bass fishing, but I also like panfishing with lighter lures such as beetle spins, small jigs and grubs, and small crankbaits. however, when I try and cast these lures on my rod, they don't cast far out enough to reach the fish! I know that my rod isn't meant for these light lures, but I want to know if there is an alternative to having to spend more money on an ultralight rod. can I put a few splitshot weights on my line to help the lures cast further, or will that affect the lures and make them not work correctly? also, if I do need to get an ultralight rod to make these baits cast further, would a "pen fishing rod" be a good choice? I really don't want to spend more than $30 on a rod and reel ultralight combo if I need to buy one... thanks for all input and opinions!
  2. Hello, I just have two quick questions... I have been deciding on a spinning rod for a while, and I think I am going to get the Berkly Lightning Rod Shock, because it isn't too expensive and I have read many good reviews. Do you think this is a good choice? Also, i'm having a lot of trouble finding a good reel. Like the rod, I would like to get something fairly cheap, $50 or below. What are some good spinning reels in this price range that will work well for bass fishing and that would go with the Lightning shock Rod? Thanks for all input.
  3. Thanks a lot all opinions help!
  4. Hey everyone. I'm looking to get a new spinning setup this year, and am not looking to spend a whole lot of money for one since I am a kid! I was wondering if you could give me your input on what you think a good spinning setup for be to buy under $90 would be. It doesn't necessarily have to be a rod reel combo, just anything that is under $90 altogether. I will be using this rod for bass fishing in medium sized lakes. It would also be a huge help to me if you could give me specifications for rod length, action, reel size and gear ratio because it is all very confusing to me! Thanks for all opinions!
  5. Hello everyone, quick question. Even though monofilament line floats AND is good for topwater, can I still use it for lures that I want to sink, like a jig or senko type worm? If SO, what are some good types of line? Also, would a copolymer line be better for me if I wanted to use it for topwater lures AND lures that sink? If SO, what are some red commended types of copolymer? Thank you for all tips AND opinions.
  6. Hello. I'm getting ready to go fishing this upcoming spring and summer, and I need some new baits! I barely had any baits last year, since I was new to fishing. I was wondering, what are some great all around lures to have to cover most situations while bass fishing? Also, how many baits do you really need, because I see people with a TON, and was wondering if you could be just as successfull with a much smaller variety? ( i'm asking this because im a kid and don't have a huge budget for tons of tackle like some people!) also keep in mind that the lakes I fish on are not extremely large and i fish from the banks with a spinning rod! thank you, and all opinions are appreciated!

  9. Hello! I usually fish in the spring and summer on the banks of small to medium sized lakes with my friends. I fish with a spinning rod for bass, and occasionally bluegill and catfish. I know that many people say that you can't throw heavier lures such as crankbaits, spinnerbaits and jigs on a spinning rod and reel, and that you need a bait caster to do that. I was wondering if the type of rod used for different baits really does matter for catching fish. If I do throw heavier type lures such as the ones mentioned above on a spinning rod and reel, will I still be able to successfully catch fish? All opinions are appreciated, thanks.
  10. Thanks everyone!
  11. Hello everyone. I'm getting ready to fish this spring, and I need a new rod! I don't have enough money for multiple rods like some people, since I am only a teen. I can only get one rod to go fishing this spring and summer! I was wondering if you could give me your opinions on what is a great relatively cheap overall rod and reel combo for me. (Baitcaster or spinning? Length, action, etc.?) it would also be helpful if you could give some specific examples, too! My friends and I usually fish for mostly medium sized largemouth bass, occasionally catfish, and medium sized sunnies every once in a while. All of your ideas and opinions are greatly appreciated AND I would love to hear what you think! Thanks!
  12. Hey everyone. I'm thinking about getting an ugly stik gx2 6'6" MH rod and a Penn Fierce 5000 spinning reel. I am going to the shore this weekend so I want to be able to use it in freshwater for flounder and small sea bass, but I also want to use it for bass in freshwater lakes. Would this rod and reel be good for both freshwater and saltwater? I appreciate all comments and opinions, they are really helpful. Thanks.
  13. Hello everybody. I am getting a Abu Garcia vendetta 6'6" MHF and an Abu Garcia Orra s 30 spinning reel. What are good types of lures to throw on this setup? I was thinking all kinds of topwater, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, jerk baits, small jigs, all types of soft plastics, and frogs. Let me know what you think. Thanks
  14. Hello everybody. I am looking into getting a new rod, and I am deciding between a spinning rod or a baitcaster. I want the rod to be my only rod, so what do you think would be more versatile and catch more fish year round if it was the only rod I had? Once you decide spinning or baitcasting, please tell me a good all around gear ratio and rod length and power to choose for that rod. Thank you, your comments really help me out.
  15. Hey everyone. I am thinking about getting a Abu Garcia vendetta 7' MH fast paired with an Abu pro max baitcaster. Would this combo be a good setup for ALL fishing lures and techniques, or do you think I would also need a spinning rod to accompany the baitcaster to be able to fish all lures. Thanks
  16. Hey everybody. Quick question. Is it possible to effectively fish using only one rod to consistently catch bass all year round? If so, please let me know what kind of rod and reel to use, and what technique(s) to use with it. If this isn't possible, then what would the minimum amount of rods be to consistently catch bass all year round? Any feedback or opinions REALLY helps me out since I am new to fishing. Thank you.
  17. Thanks for your opinions. They really help me out since I am inexperienced.
  18. Ok these answers really help me out!
  19. Hello. I am wondering if there is one rod and reel that will cover all fishing tenniques and lures or do you need multiple? Can one rod and reel fish everything like weightless, dropshot, Texas rig, spinnerbaits, poppers, hard frogs, jigs, jerk baits, buzz baits, crankbaits, heavy soft plastics, light soft plastics, shakey head, wacky rig, etc.? If so please tell me what it is because I would love to only need one rod and reel for all fishing lures and techniques. All comments tips and feedback are helpful and appreciated. Thanks
  20. Hey everyone. Right now I have one rod, a Shakespeare spinning combo. I always see people using baitcasters for heavier lures. Is a baitcaster NEEDED for using lures like spinnerbaits, crankbaits, poppers, frogs, jigs, jerk baits, and other heavier lures? If you use them on a spinning rod, will it affect their appearance and their performance compared to using them on a baitcaster? Will you catch more fish using these lures on a baitcaster rather them on a spinning setup? I'm wondering this because I want to fish these lures but don't want to spend extra money on a baitcaster if I don't have to. I would appreciate all of your comments, opinions, and input. Thank you, and have fun fishing!
  21. Thanks so much!
  22. Hello everyone. I fish from the banks on small lakes using a spinning combo . I don't have much tackle and I haven't caught many bass. I am looking for some good lures/baits for bank fishing on small lakes with a spinning rod and reel. What are some good baits or lures for all year round for the type of fishing I do? I appreciate all of your input and opinions. Thank you.
