My Shimano Stradic spinning reel schematic shows a rubber friction ring. Mine was missing so I bought one. There is no way it will fit on the reel. What is this ring for and why does the spool need friction. Thanks.

Are the Castaic Baby Bass swim baits any good? I see a lot of guys using them but I don't know if they are catching anything. Thanks.

I have 2 Plfueger GX 7's. They have worked really well.

The reel is only rough when line is being spooled up. I took it apart today and cleaned the spool bearing assembly and it seems OK. I'm going to take it out in the next couple of days and see how it does.

Thanks for your help guys. The one bearing I didn't really check out was the line bearing on the bail. I'll check that out and if it's OK I'll send it to Shimano

I live pretty close to Shimano in California so I could send it or take it there. They get pretty backed up sometimes.

I use it for bass fishing and trout fishing. No sine of salt water corrosion. I talked to mike at DVT (nice guy) and he says he will look at it for me. Seems pretty reasonable.

I bought the reel on ebay . the anti reverse bearing was bad. The cage that holds the needle bearings together was broken. I don't know how the previous owner could have broken it. So I don't know the past history on the reel. Maybe the other bearings are bad also. I know I reassembled it correctly. You mentioned Mike at DVT. How do I get hold of him? Thanks.

Hello everyone. My Shimano Stradic 4000 is very smooth until I put a load on it. I took it apart, cleaned and lubed it according to Shimanos directions using Shimano lubricant. I also replaced the anti reverse bearing. I'm using 8# mono line. Any ideas on how to smooth this thing out? Thanks.
