  1. Hey yall, how's the bite going? Haven't wet a line since last fall. Thinking about trying out Catclaw there at James A. Reed this Saturday. Had some pretty good luck there last year. But hoping to expand my horizons some this year at other lakes where I can rent a boat.
  2. Hit Cat Claw Lake @ J.A.R. Sunday morning for a few hours. Didn't get any action, didn't see many other anglers seeing much either. Hoping to get back out there this week.
  3. Well thanks for the comments. I hear ya about the wife. Luckily I got some gift cards from work for this baby. LoL
  4. Ya, I was looking at the 500's, but I really like those stradic reels. Probably use this mainly for panfishing, but I'm sure I'll throw something out there for bass every now and then.
  5. Well, went ahead and got the 6' Avid. Feels very good! Can't wait to take it out!
  6. Fished Cat Claw lake at J.A.R. on Sunday. Went early morning, did some CRIG worms and flukes for a few hours w/o any bites. My Revo SX started acting up on me (grinding/stiff reeling). Went home, greased it up (again), went back out around 3 and started getting some bites on the super fluke. Ended up pulling in a nice 3 1/4 pounder by a brush pile. First big one I got on the new Pfluger/*** rig. Thing handled pretty smooth. Almost thought I lost it as it ran my line into the logs. Had 6# flouro on and it held in there.
  7. *** Black, love my 7'11" MF rod!!
  8. I use the timber brown super slicks, 15#. Fish don't seem to care cuz I keep pulling them in.
  9. Went out to james a reed again last night. Managed to horse in a nice 3#. Earlier I was getting hammered by something big and it kept diving into the brush before I could pull him. Must've been a monster. He gave me two shots and lost two hooks.
  10. I was thinking about the 60ULF but leaning towards the 66ULF for casting distance. But after reading a few of the responses here, kind of thinking of the 60ULF. The only one Cabela's/BP have are the 6' one and I do like the feel and I did handle it with a stradic ci4+ 1000. Felt pretty good. Just never bought an ultralight before and wanted to fish for some opinions over here. Thanks for responses.
  11. Wanting to put together a nice ultralight setup. Been looking at the Avid ultralight from St. Croix. Anyone have any experience with these? Thinking about pairing it up with a shimano ci4+ 1000.
  12. Went to cat claw last night and apparently everyone else had the same idea. 42 acre lake, plenty of room to fish and I guess I was in everyone else's favorite spot cuz there were 7 or 8 of us 20 yards apart from each other. Course I was the first on there. Anyways, couldn't buy a bite, but the fish were jumping all over the place, minnow pools all over the place. Didn't try a whole lot of things. Worked a couple of different colored super flukes up top, but no luck. Then ran some plastics on the bottom too. Oh well....
  13. Hey blue, you go out there yourself? I wanted to throw my name in the hat to fill that spot, but had some family stuff going on. nice catch there!
  14. Caught my PB tonight at James A. Reed! Lil splitshot crig action.
  15. Heading out to James A. Reed tonight. Has anyone been out there lately? What's working?
  16. Ordered a new rig today, can't wait for it to come. Gonna try out a *** Black Med w/ Pflueger President (ya I like spinners ). Hoping to come out to the BBQ place next week to meet some of the crew, if work permits.
  17. Hit cat claw at james reed the past few nights. Tried some worms I bought over the weekend. Didn't work out too well. LOL Tried a 10" culprit watermelon copper red flake and black w/ chart tail (TRIG'd). Maybe got a few "nibbles". Funny thing was last night where I switched to a purple/wht worm last 30min of light and started getting a lot of bites, just couldn't hook'em. When I got home I noticed my hook tip was a little bent. o.O Need to pay attention to that. Guess I hit too many logs/rocks over the past few days. Also used a tenn shad super fluke Wed night and manged to get a few strikes, and reeled a small LMB late evening. I need to get a boat to hit some other places. =\
  18. Hey man, ya I'll shoot you a text. Probably be next weekend. Don't know any where else decent to fish the bank around here.
  19. well, spent 6 hours at James A Reed this morning. Used a Trig'd & Crig'd curly tail, super fluke, and weightless senko. Went to Cat Claw, Gopher, and Jack Rabbit lake. Didn't catch anything until about 11:30 with a super fluke. Couple small LM's and that's about it. I'm demoralized. lol Gonna try again Saturday.
  20. Cat claw was a little slow this morning. Fished 6-10. Had two big hits near the bank that broke my line fairly quick (10# mono). Other than that, caught two small bass off weightless senko. Lost another rattle trap too. =(
  21. Spent 2.5hrs at Lake Nell (James A Reed) last night. Caught a small largemouth off a rat-l-trap, and ended up losing that lure later in the evening (>.< just bought it too). Ran a bunch of T.rig and shakey head and only got a few bites. Lot of stuff feeding at the top (prob bluegill). Ordered a few super fluke variations and hope to try them out there next week.
  22. Cool, I'll try it next time I'm out. How do you like to rig it?
  23. Went out to cat claw lake at james a reed last night. Only got a nibble after 2hrs of fishing where I caught a couple of nice one's a few days ago. Fish were nipping the surface all over the place, probably should've tried some top water variances, and moved around the lake more, but stuck with a weighted/unweighted senko and shaky head. Almost made it to dark, but the thunderstorm chased me off. lol
  24. Hit Jacomo today. Dad got a nice 3# in the morning. Rest of the day was slow and hot. Tried a lot of things, senko, shaky, trig, crig, jig/pig, various crank baits. Oh well, better luck next time. Wondering if all the rain got them in a funk.
