  1. With the weights you want to throw id reccomend a sol, fuego, td-z 105, t3 1016 or ballistic, or tatula type r. The steez or px-r would handle those weights awesome as well if you have the dough to spend. I can't afford either of those but im in the process of saving for a ss sv to do the same thing you are wanting. Its a jdm reel that should work great from what ive heard
  2. Id definitely go with the tatula or tat type r over the revos. I have bought 2 revos. A gen 2 premier and a gen 3 sx and wasnt happy with either one of them as far as casting and retrieve feel so i ended up selling them. Im pretty partial to my tats but the lews bb1 pro and tournament pro are other reeks definitely worth looking at in that price range. My buddy's tp casts pretty close to my tat with the same lure, line, and rod and is just as smooth. Depending on line capacity you want he has *** *** that is awesome but its a little small with regards to line capacity. Very smooth though and has him wanting to sell shimano collection to buy more 13 concepts. The revos just arent for me but thats just my opinion so dont let that deter you just try one out before you buy is all i can advise. Ive ordered a lot of stuff and ended up using it a handful of times and ended up trading or selling it at a loss

  4. Have you looked at the okuma guide series rods? I know they have a 7'6" lineup and i may be wrong but i believe there is a medium heavy that is rated for 1/2 or 3/4 ounce up to like 3 ounces or so. They get great reviews and are swimbait sticks so the mh is a swimbait rating id say judging by the lure weights its rated for it would be at least a heavy.or xh
  5. I use supernatural mono almost exclusively on my spinning reels and cranking rods. Works great and has very low memory which really helps with spinning reels and the smallest diameter for pound test ive been able to find which makes cranks dive deeper. It does break pretty close to ratings though compared with trilene xl or big game like i was using before. Not necessarily a bad thing but i could horse in a 15 pound striper on 12 lb big game and have to play them out with sunline but its definitely worth it for the extra foot or two deeper my cranks dive. I havent tried their flouro or braid though
  6. The pQ is a oretty good reel for the price and so is the carbonlite rod. Id still shop around and get a tatula and *** black or a tatula and fenwick elite tech smallmouth(can be found for 100 on sale) . My tatula outcasts the pq i used to have by quite a long margin and seems smoother too. You can get great opinions on forums like this but keep in mind these are all opinions and a lot of users prefer specific brands and rod lengths/actions so for me the best thing is always to try it in a store first if at all possible and see how it feels to.you
  7. What daiwa reel is this comparable to? I picked this reel up at a pawn shope for 15 bucks and i know its made by daiwa as a lot of cabelas reels are and also because it has magforce printed on the reel and the box. It looks brand new woth no scratches or boat rash and is as smooth as my tatula and casts amazingly well. Im very happy with it stock but i was thinking of maybe putting a longer handle on it. Im wondering if i can maybe buy some better spool bearings and a longer handle. Are all daiwas the same as far as handles and spool bearings?
  8. The highest end ardents are still made in usa or at least thats what it says on their website. Higher end daiwa and shimanos are made in japan and some abus are made in sweden. Almost everything else is made in korea, thailand, malaysia, or china.
  9. I haven't owned a cardinal since the one i bought on the mid 90's but i used it for 7-8 years and it still worked when i accidentally kicked it off the boat one day while fighting a fish on another rod. I dont know if they are still made the same but abu has some pretty durable reels in my opinion
  10. I have an ugly stick spinning rod ive shut in car doors, droppes at least a hundred times on rocks and even fell om and broke 3 out of the 5 rods i was carrying bank fishing and i can still reel in a 25 pound flathead or 20 pound striper no problem with. If any rod is bulletproof its an ugly stick. Its definitely not the most sensitive rod but it works great for reaction baits and live bait. The only knock i have is that its hard for me to feel bites and set hooks if im using t rigs or jigs as it has a more moderate action like a cranking rod due to its fiberglass construction
  11. I would take it back and get the duckett or another 7 ft + fast or extra fast rod. It will b hard to get a good hookset with a moderate rod woth a jig with a weedguard or texas rigged plastic with that rod. Moderate action rods are designed for treble hook baits and IMO its hard to get a good hookset with jigs with a moderate rod. Ive tried a one time when i fell on my worm/jig rod and broke it fishing on the bank from rip rap and lost fish on all 3 bites i got as soon as tbey thrashed on the surface and my hook point only made it a 1/4 inch out of my t-rigged creature bait when i reeled it in after losing the fish. I had a good bite going and i was so frustrated i left as i lost 3 3-5 pound smallies in 30 min
  12. For 200 id pick up 2 *** blacks in differemt actions to fish a wider range of lure sizes. There are many great rods under 200 so most of it comes down to what your looking for. You can't go wrong with a crucial or duckett as has already been mentioned bur out of those 2 id lean towards the crucial as it just feels better to me. Id definitely take a look at a tatula too everyone i know that has one loves theirs. If you have only been using one rod though id defintely think about getting 2 omens or even a mh *** and a m elite tech smallmouth and that way you can cover a wider spectrum of lures. The only thing about that though is yoi would be in the market for a new reel as well and it may not make sense to you moneywise

  14. Pflueger reels are made in korea. Same as bps, lew's, abu garcia, and browning. Korean made reels usually have better build quality than ones made in china. I believe all the brands i mentioned are made in the same factory owned by doyo but i could be wrong on that. Dont be scared by the korean manufacturing though as most reels are made in korea, china, or malaysia. Only the higher end daiwa and shimanos are made in japan and the only mainstream manufacturer i know of in america is ardent and even then its only their highest end reels
  15. I have a powell deisel spinning rod i really like but havent tried the crankbait model. The only thing some people scare away from is there is no warranty on these rods. I will say the one i have performs way above the 55 dollars i gave for it and it would probably cost a lot more if they had warranties as not everyone is as careful with their rods as me lol. The bps crankin stick is another good rod in your price range and if something happens it can always be returned to bps. The lightning rod shock is a very good rod for the price. It isnt marketed as a cranking rod but has a soft tip for braided lines and worked great for a cranking rod. i really liked mine until i saved up and bought a better one. I dont know that the action is any better for cranking but i just had to try one of the tatulas. Go figure that darn bait monkey was at it again. The shocks are a little heavy though. I also own a couple of the skeet reese cranking rods and they can be had in your price range. I use my 6'6" quite a bit in ponds for shallow and medium divers and actually think its a darn good rod i just hate the yellow. The 7'11" skeet rod i bought for 65( same as the 6'6" off tw ive only used twice. Darn thing feels like it weighs 10 pounds and still havent found a reel to balance it. I have quite a bit of experience with lesser priced cranking rods if you can tell lol. Id have to reccomend the bps crankin rod or the lightning rod shock out of the ones i have tried only because of the warranties but if no warranty doesnt scare you the deisel would be a great all around cranking rod just dont shut it in a door unless you wanna throw away 50 bucks
  16. +1 on the team daiwa t rods. They are awesome at the 59 dollar sale price and have a 5 year warranty to boot. I have a powell deisel spinning rod im pretty fond of but havent tried the casting models. The academy h20 also gets good reviews. If i was gonna spend 60 on a new rod though id have to go with the daiwa t rod or maybe a veritas but all the reports of quality control issues has scared me away from them personally.
  17. 3 inch yum wooly hawgtail in black and blue
  18. A 4/0 widegap ewg with a beaver style bait or other creature bait A 2/0 ewg with smaller 3 inch creature bait or craw for smallies A 3/0 ewg with a 4 inch senko type bait if the bites really tough
  19. I would would worry more about the reel than the rod if you are just starting out with baitcast because it takes some time to learn how to thumb a reel properly and not backlash. That being said if i had 200 to spend id look at a daiwa tatula(108 off the auction site), a bps pro qualifier is another reel worth looking at as it has dual brakes and gets great reviews. The lews speed spool or tournament mg are good reels and there are a few cabelas brand reels in your budget that are actually made by diawa. They are great value reels. You can find shimano citica g reels for around 100 and mine has been very reliable though not as smooth as my e series. As far as the rod goes id find a mh 7 ft or so casting rod with a fast tip. The combo id reccomend is the tatula or lews reels with a shimano clarus rod as mine is pretty darn good for the price and has a lifetime warranty. Good luck in your search there are plenty of options in that price range. Do research on warranties and reviews before you buy. All the suggestions above are good but take user reviews with a grain of salt as some ppl love certain brands and will push them no matter what. Try to find the choices you narrow it down to in a store so yoi can handle products bc sometimes things sound good on paper but dont feel as good in hand and spend some time checking prices. Used items are sometimes great values too so dont count that out
  20. Id go with the tatula type r or a lews bb1 pro or tournament pro depending on what kind of braking system you prefer. All three will bomb cranks a long ways but i like the tp the best for really dialing it in as it uses both mahnetic and centrifugal brakes
  21. Id go with the elite tech smallmouth out of that list. I love my 6'3" medium for almost everything but im rhinking about getting a longer one for better casting distance ro replave my powell deisel. Cabelas has them on sale right now. Tje crucial is also a great rod and you can get them on sale right now and can't beat shimanos warranty. Fyi if you decide to get the citrix they have them on the walmart site for around $80 and free shipping to the store nearest you
  22. the shocks have a softer tip to compensate for no stretch braided lines. I used mine with mono and flouro for reaction baits but they can be uses for other techniques too. You might want to use braid if you use one for plastics and jigs though because of the softer tip
  23. Im not familiar with this exact bps model but this is the way i set up my baitcasters with dual breaks. I back off eeverything and set the tension knob under the handle so the lure im using drops to the ground and doesnt overrun the spool with just a little thumb pressure and the spool doesnt mobe side to side. Then i set both magnetic and centrifugal breaks in the middle and test cast. If it backlashes at the start of the cast use more centrifugal brakes and if its at the end i use more magnetic. Centrifugal brakes are the ones on the inside and magnetic is the dial on the non handle sideplate on your reel. If it doesnt cast to your liking back them off a click at a time til tou get the distance you want or til you can't keep it from backlashing with your thumb. I dont know that this is the correct way but this is the way ive always done it. I think there is a thread on this here but im not sure how to find it and post the link. Someone else will probably post it soon. How light are the weights you are tryong to throw?
  24. I bank fish a lot too and habe two different spinning set ups i use depending on whether im in an open spot or with trees hanging over me. In open spots i use a powell deisel i bought for 55 shipped from tw and a daiwa exceller 2500. Total cost was well under 150 shipped bc i got the reel nib off another forum way cheaper than retail but even at retail you can get this combo for around 150. The rod is 6'10" though so i use a shorter combo around trees and for jerkbaits or anything i work with a downward rod motion so i dont hit the ground. my shorter combo is a 6'3" elite tech smallmouth with a shimano sahara. It would be over your budget retail but cabelas has the rod right now for 99 and you can find saharas for 50 or so on forums or ebay used or can go with another reel like the daiwa regal or pfleuger president. I have an okuma rtx i ordered from walmart.com on the way i picked up for 73 bucks to replace the sahara but its been a great reel. I have to try a 6.6 ounce 30 size reel wirh 13 lbs of drag that gets great reviews on saltwater forums. You could pair one of these with a deisel or abu vendetta or veritas for under your budget too. Sorry i wrote a book lol just wanted to lwt you know there are tons of options.
  25. Call bull if u want lol all that matters to me is i know i caught it. On a side note i do have some pics of a few ive caught id like to make my avatar pic but i dont know how to load them. Is there a help section or thread on this? I assume i have to send them to my email first because they are on my cell but i dont know what to do other than that
