Fish Lake Erie and the Niagara River all the time (pretty clear water) and have noticed little to no advantage of having FC instead of braid. There are a few instances that I will use it (crankbaits, jerkbaits, dropshot), or use braid with a FC leader. I don't like having FC on my reels because when I get to local lakes where you are fishing in thick cover or flipping jigs all day, or throwing topwater or buzzbaits, I would much rather have the braid on and not have to re-spool. Just my $0.02.
Multiple new Lew's reels and rods, Strike King 1.5 and 8.0, Kopper's live target lures yearling series, new products from Reins and YUM, new veritas...
...and can't forget the new Duckett micro magic pro rod and ironsilk line from Berkley!
I don't enjoy getting skunked, but it happens more often than I'd like over the summer months when I'm hitting the water for an hour or two after work, usually to try out a new product, or get ready for a tournament. It doesn't really bother me too much until it it happens in an 8 hour day, then it's a completely different story.
If you haven't used one you won't understand how awesome it is, Arbogast Buzz Plug in black or firetiger. Other than that keep it to livetarget frogs and field mouse for heavier cover.
I like the biggest version of these, just because I don't have a frog in that size. Moves more water and I like them a lot right before dusk open water or on top of weed beds.
Anything mostly black, brown, or green pumpkin works for me in any of the water I fish, no matter what the depth is. Usually use 1/2 up to 10 ft and 3/4 anything deeper.
I would just contact LiveTarget. Great company to communicate with for customer service. I've had one frog from livetarget where the back end took on water, but it still caught fish for me. Also, if you trimmed it at all, that could be part of the problem.
