  1. I'll try that man, good advice. I've always just kept the same knot cause I change baits constantly.
  2. It's the same kind of knot I've been using for two years, I think it may be because I haven't used mono in a while. I had fluoro on my Black Max and my knots were fine, they were actually strong enough that my friend was trying to get a bait unstuck and it took him about five minutes. As soon as I went back to mono, my knots started slipping.
  3. If you've never really used baitcasters I would suggest just getting a cheap one for now and seeing what you think about them first. I would suggest either the Black Max or the Pflueger Templar.
  4. I've only ever took the time to learn the one knot. Lol I've never had a problem with tying mono or fluoro, and I've never tried braid. It was just that one day my knots weren't holding well at all.
  5. I believe it's called the advanced clinch or something of that nature, and I leave about 2 centimeters probably.
  6. I have some 12LB Trilene mono line and the knots keep slipping out. I normally tie knots that catch good sized catfish (even though I fish for bass) and the other day I lost a buzzbait and a willow leaf spinner to two small bass. I was wondering if my knots are just becoming faulty or if mono line doesn't hold knots as well as fluoro.
  7. If you don't want memory, then braid is your best bet. There's a few disadvantages to using braid though, same as the other types of line.
  8. Unless my dad changed them up then I guess they're on the setting that they were from the factory.
  9. I plan on doing it, it's just the fact that money is hard to come by when you have no job. Lol I don't have much equipment yet because I just got my first tackle box and haven't been using my dad's tackle anymore. I also need some more rod and reels.
  10. I don't mind weight to much. I've slung spinner baits for eight hours before. I just want a good reel so I can have a certain reel for certain baits. I wanna get a 5:2:1 for cranking and a 7:1:1 or 7:3:1 for repeated and I already have to 6:4:1's for everything in between.
  11. I've heard everyone say how good the Speed Spool and BPS PQ are. Are they on par with some of the more expensive reels considering how much they're bragged upon?
  12. How have I not taken the time to use it correctly? I have been using them for two years. I study guns, not reels. I'm not trying to work on them, I'm just enjoying fishing with them. Saying the things you're saying about not properly using them would be like me telling you that you don't know how to properly use a rifle because you don't know the difference between a direct impingment system and a gas piston system and the downfalls of each.
  13. I meant on the exterior of a reel. As I previously said, I have never torn into it to clean it or look at it. I wasn't the one that bought it. My dad bought it a while back and he never learned how to use it so he basically gave it to me.
  14. I could do it myself, but I'm just going to send it off because if someone else screws it up I can make them pay for it. If I screw it up then I have to redo it until I get it right. Lol
  15. I'll check it out, I plan to buy all of them I can eventually. Lol I just want to get the best one first.
  16. I've never tore the Pflueger apart to look at it. The painting is just cause I like to be unique and it will look great in my opinion. When it starts coming off I'll redo it or just leave it for character. This isn't exactly a rush to get one. I have to buy a new rod for my spinning reel and then I can save up for the new reel.
  17. Both of my reels were around $50 and they both work great. I just need to start building up my collection on tackle and equipment.
  18. As far as the braking systems, it really doesn't matter in my opinion. My Pflueger doesn't even have a braking adjuster knob, just the spool tension knob.
  19. I was actually thinking about the Daiwa too. What's the advantages to the higher end reels besides longevity and better materials?
  20. Try some swimbaits I never fish in the river or lakes because I don't have a driver's license, but when I get the chance I'll throw on a swimbait. I never get hits on anything else from the bank and I've tried a good bit of stuff. Buzzbaits, Colorado spinners, willow leaf spinners, frogs, worms, crankbaits, etc.
  21. I was wondering what my next baitcaster should be. I already have two cheap ones, a Pflueger Templar and Abu Garcia Black Max II, and I love both of them, but I was thinking of saving up some extra money and seeing if I couldn't get one a little more expensive and of better quality. I've been thinking about the Revo SX, but it seems like Abu Garcia's quality, in my experience, isn't all its cracked up to be. I still love the brand but what are some other good ones? I was thinking about getting a good Shimano or something. Also, what do you guys think of the custom painted rod and reels? If I get another one I plan to get it painted matte black with a matte red spool and handle.
  22. The only thing is that I don't think my buddy goes fishing in the river very often. I think he told me that him and his dad competed a few weeks ago and got seventh, but that was with his dad picking the fishing areas. Lol
  23. Thanks man. I go fishing at least once a day for a few hours. I know it's like comparing a NASCAR to a top fuel, but I caught twelve bass in a couple of hours at the pond.
  24. Hey guys, my buddy wants me to start competing in tournaments with him and he fishes in the river all the time. I personally don't have a boat or a license so I stick to just going to the pond down the road and don't have much experience in river fishing. I was wondering if it would be possible to even be a decent competitor coming from a pond fishing background.
