  1. It's Trilene, that's not exactly junk. You don't have to spend a ton of money to get good line.
  2. Obviously you have some comprehension problems. I asked a simple question that I was curious about, I wasn't looking down upon others, I just wanted to know what heavy braid was used for. Now that I see what the members are like on this site since there have been many people who are up on their high horses, I will now leave. I came on this site for fishing help and good conversations and there are a few good members, but most of you are keyboard warriors.
  3. How does that seem like I'm bashing people with higher poundage exactly? I didn't call anyone a "fool" like he basically called me. I was curious about a subject and asked a question about it. If this site is going to be constant bashing, which I have seen much of so far, then I will happily leave this site.
  4. I asked a question about braid, I don't recall asking for people to be ******** to someone who was just asking a simple question. Get some butthurt cream and get off the forum if you're going to be a dickhead.
  5. I never thought of that, I always wondered what those swivels were for. I guess I was just to dumb to figure it out. Lol
  6. You can't even try to help someone without getting bashed for something.
  7. Just go to a pond, make five or six cast and walk a little ways and do that the whole time you fish. I move about every 10-15 casts and I'm 6'2 120 and it even gives me a workout. I'm not sure how much that helps, but I think it would help a lot with keeping it interesting and making you a better angler at the same time.
  8. I've never seen anywhere around here that had pads, so I'm not to worried about them. The heavy grass I even fish with mono, I just don't throw anything that gets hung real easily in there.
  9. I can't get into tying a leader on repeatedly after I change baits about six times though. I only have two rod and reel setups so I wind up changing baits a lot on the same rod and reel. Mainly because I like to use my better one more often and I just use my cheaper one for certain applications.
  10. Understandable, I buy Trilene 12-15 pound mono and the memory doesn't bother me. Fluoro on the other hand has so much memory after just a day of sitting the line comes out in spirals.
  11. I'm not much into having to tie a leader on because I would have to put more on quite often considering how much I change baits. I'll just stick to my mono, it's more my style. Lol then again I also don't understand why someone would want a different line for every job. I just like to fish and catch fish and sometimes eat fish. That's why I don't have $150+ dollar rods and reels.
  12. I haven't had any problem with the 20 pound yet, but I haven't been fishing it long. I just bought a new baitcaster Friday and put my 12 pound mono on. I've always used mono so maybe that's why I like it so much more. That, and the fact that I can only get 150 yards of braid for $15 and I can get 1175 yards of mono for $12.
  13. I like how strong braid is, but I hate fishing with it. I can tell whether it's a fish or a rock, stump, log, etc better with mono than anything. Still though, wouldn't you want the lighter braid so that it's less visible?
  14. I fish weeds a lot and I just use 12 pound mono. I have 20 pound braid on my jigging rod but 65 just seems like over kill to me. I could just be dead wrong and completely ignorant about fishing but it just seems kind of crazy to me to use that much. I guess if you're doing tourneys and want to makes absolutely sure that you won't lose a fish I could kind of understand but 20 pound would be just as good for that.
  15. I'm just curious, why do so many people use such heavy weight braid? You aren't going to catch a 50+ bass and if you get hung up on something your hook will straighten or your rod will break before you get your lure loose if it's caught up that bad. I wouldn't use any more than 20 personally unless I was fishing at a dam for giant cats. Anyone else confused as to why people use this or is it just me?
  16. I was thinking about it because I know if I buy a lot of rod and reels then I can save a lot of money buying used or buying stuff on sale. Much like the Quantum Accurist I bought yesterday for $40, I took it fishing today and love it. That's the good thing about those shows, I got a reel for $60 off and it was brand new. To bad those shows only come once a year.
  17. Well guys, I went to the hunting and fishing expo yesterday and as usual they had a lot of great deals. I only had $40 with me and they had some reels that were half off. I found a Quantum Accurist AC100HPT that they had on sale for $50. I came back and looked at it twice and the guy finally sighed and said, "give me your $40." I haven't got to use it yet, but hopefully in a few hours I'll go to the river and try it out. The only problem now is it's on a cheap rod with the foam handle coming off that I'm going to have to superglue back together. I'm hopefully going to get some money soon to buy a Berkley Cherrywood.
  18. I was wondering if anyone has ever used the Diawa Laguna spinning rod. I bought one for my dad a couple of weeks ago and I plan to give it to him for his birthday tomorrow. It feels pretty light and seems to have a pretty good action but I'm worried about how good it will be considering it was only twenty bucks. I bought it for him because I didn't have the money for anything else and he bought a spinning reel not long ago and didn't have a rod to put it on so he put it on a casting rod. Did I make a good choice or should I have gotten him something else for the money?
  19. Thanks for the opinions guys. I'll let you know what reel I end up getting.
  20. I was thinking about it earlier and I like to be the first to own my reels. Then I thought about it more and when people buy trucks or bikes or something like that they buy used. That's what got me thinking about this topic. Lol
  21. Well after looking through some of the products in the flea market I didn't really see anything that caught my eye. I'm going to a hunting and fishing expo Friday so hopefully I'll find some good deals there.
  22. In the price range I'm looking for is it better to just stick with buying a new one or save the $30 or so, or even find a better used reel in the price range?
  23. I've been wanting a new reel here lately to expand my possibilities in fishing. I was wondering how many of you buy used reels off the internet and if I plan to buy a reel that is only between $100-$130 if it would be best to just buy a new one instead of only saving $20-$30 or buying a better used reel for around the same price. Are the used one's normally in pretty good shape when you buy them or are they rough and feel worn out?
  24. I've never used any you've mentioned, but I've heard good things about both rods. The reels I have never heard of before, but from what I see on here the most highly favored reel for under $100 is the Lew's Speed Spool. I have also never tried it, but if I can find a cheap one Friday when I go to the hunting and fishing expo I will most likely pick one up. I honestly hate Pflueger, I have one right now along with an Abu Garcia Black Max and the Pflueger feels like it's junk. It doesn't cast far, it doesn't reel smooth, the spool feels like it tries to stick, etc. I love my Black Max because it's a great reel for the money and I can't afford anything above $100 much like yourself.
  25. It's not about what kind of rod is recommended for your style, it's about what rod you're comfortable with using. Personally I cast farther with a stiff rod, and I just like having a stiff rod so I can feel confident in my hook sets.
