  1. I was just wanting to hear everyone's preference. I already have my next two reels picked out. My next one is a Pflueger president and then I want a BPS PQ.
  2. If only I had the money to afford a good Shimano. Wait, my old bicycle says Shimano, does that count?
  3. I thought this may be an interesting subject. I like an all around good, reliable reel. I know some people look for smoothness, some look for reliability, and there's plenty of other things people prefer. So, as the title implies, what do you look for in a reel?
  4. I have 2 casting combos. I would like to upgrade one of them after I get some spinning gear. The next casting combo on my list is a BPS PQ and I haven't decided on the rod yet. All I know so far is it'll be a Medium power.
  5. Ugly Stiks aren't as sensitive as other rods and they're heavier. Doesn't mean it's a bad rod though. I use one quite often. I have a 7' M that I use and I've had it for as long as I can remember. I've caught plenty of bass on it and also plenty of bluegill and catfish. Whenever I'm fishing I tend to grab my better rod and reel combo (silver Quantum Accurist on a 7'3H Abu Vendetta. I know, I'm cheap.) because it's lighter and more sensitive. Doesn't really matter what you fish with as long as you have fun. If you can't afford gear go break a limb off of a tree and borrow a line and a lure.
  6. Awesome post, now time for me to try one out. I really liked the picture in the snow, just a random thought.
  7. I never get bites when it's windy. I set my more brakes on the reel and try to use smaller baits so I don't have to pick backlashes out all day but the fish never bite for me.
  8. I like my Pflueger Templar on the Ugly Stick 7' Medim.
  9. Come on man, I'm only 19 and I can read cursive. I probably can't write in cursive very well since I haven't done since the fourth grade. This teachers handwriting is pretty bad considering it's important for people to be able to read it. Still not nearly as bad as my handwriting though.
  10. I heard the rod is pretty bad quality but the reel isn't bad. I had one a while back and it was nice for the price. Light, casts far, cheap, looks good (which is a huge plus but not mandatory to me), and it was more reliable than I thought. I wish I still had it but I sent it to my sister when I got a new reel.
  11. I don't listen to music while fishing, however I do jam out anytime I'm going to fish or coming back from fishing. Three Days Grace, Slipknot, Suicide Silence, BMTH, etc.
  12. The closest I've gotten was when I walked outside to see what my dad was doing and as soon as I got past the car I seen nothing but white and heard thunder. Scared me bad enough at the moment that I dropped to the ground and thought I had been hit. I'm guessing it probably hit in the field just a little ways away.
  13. You find yourself basically socially awkward because your shy. I'm even worse. I can't get a job because I'm worried about not being accepted, I don't really talk around people that often, I refuse to get my GED or go to college because I don't want to look dumb, etc. Pro tip for the shy guys, find the girl you like on FB and engage in conversation over the internet. It is a lot less frightening and it gives you more time to figure out what to say.
  14. My dad bought an Okuma earlier this summer even though he never fishes. I used it two or three times and I have to say, it casts surprisingly far. I had a Abu Garcia Cardinal SX and it sucked. Then again, it was a cheap reel.
  15. I almost bought a squarebill yesterday because I don't have hardly any baits. I had to buy ear buds instead though since I always need them for something.
  16. Be prepared to laugh. Somewhere around May or June. The scale said 2lbs, but it was a $5 scale so I'm not sure if it was correct. Released.
  17. Unless you're as young as I am. I'm sure a 19 year old walking around with a stroller is more of a deterrent than a puppy.
  18. I got my fingers caught in an automatic window quite a bit when I was a kid. My mom would never say anything and just roll up the windows. When you're sitting there with your fingers stuck in the window yelling for your mom to roll it back down trying to decide if they're still attached or not it's a little dramatic.
  19. I want to venture out and try some attractants too. Right now I'm trying some kind of garlic scent that my dad has had in his bag for no telling how long. The only problem with the garlic ones is I love garlic and it makes me hungry. Lol
  20. I fish the trick worm almost exclusively now. I always T-rig mine with a 1/16oz-3/16oz weight and fish it multiple ways. Picking it up and letting it fall works the best for me, and twitching it is a close second. Dragging it works, pretty much any way you can think to fish it.
  21. I don't take the weight suggestions seriously. I use every weight on mine and its a Heavy. Plus 3/8 is less than 3/4 anyways.
  22. I have one. It's the $50 Templar baitcaster. I hated it for a while, but now that I've been using it again here lately I realized it's a very good reel to be so cheap. I've been using it pretty often for the past two years and it has never been cleaned. It's the one that I learned to use baitcasters with.
  23. Thanks for the tip, I'll try that. I used to do that actually, I would reel up the slack and wait a second. I kept hearing people say to set the hook as soon as you feel a bite so I went back to doing that.
  24. I'll continue bobbing it then. Lol still haven't gotten used to hooking fish with it yet either.
  25. T-rigged watermelon seed trick worm. I catch way more bass on that than anything else.
