  1. I guess it's one of the things that I'm just going to have to relearn. I've been doing it wrong for so long that the wrong technique comes natural. Now I have to start over with the basics and rebuild my casting technique.
  2. I believe I've figured out my problem. I usually take my thumb completely off of the spool when I cast and then put it back on to feather the spool. I started practicing with just letting a little bit of pressure off the spool and then using a little more or less pressure as needed throughout the cast. I got down to three brakes and I'm getting loops every now and again, but I'm trying to improve. I'm not sure if I'm getting more or less distance. I'm sure the distance will come with practice.
  3. I think for the money I'd spend on bearings, I'll just save up for a little better reel. Lol
  4. I'm sure the reel could use bearings. It's been in use for three years and never even gotten torn down for a cleaning. I can't seem to get the side plate off to clean it so I just put a drop of oil on one of the gears since it has a little piece at the bottom that you can take out to oil it without taking it apart.
  5. Got the baitcaster out to tinker with it and practice. Figured out how to access the brakes and lost a lot of confidence in my skill when I realized all six brakes were set on. I turned three off and...backlash. Tried to practice with three and it just wouldn't work for me. Backlash after backlash. Decided to go with four until I get enough practice to go back to three. Been using a baitcaster for three years but I've never really tested myself to try to get better and use less brakes. Any tips?
  6. Wait and Bleed is my favorite song. Can't get enough of it. There's this Russian guy that death growls the whole thin and it sounds awesome. Look up Alex Terrible.
  7. I may post a pic of my setup tomorrow. The Quantum is gone so the old Templar is on the Vendetta.
  8. I thought a spinnerbait was considered a hardbait. Lol
  9. I have an obsession with upgrading things. Lol you should see my plans for my guns and quad. The only thing I won't mess with is my truck because I don't wanna possibly screw up the reliability.
  10. I'd have to say a spinnerbait.
  11. I'm a bike guy so I'm not so sure about boats, but I've never heard of it. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt the engine, but I believe if it were that much of a problem, the engine would be failing quite often.
  12. I was actually going to buy the XT for my next reel. I just don't wanna spend $150 on a reel and then screw it up when I try to upgrade it. I'm sure I can do it because I'm a pretty good problem solver, but I could screw up. I guess its just one of those things that I'll have to learn as I go.
  13. I'd say go with 12 pound mono.
  14. Well, I'm kind of proud of myself. I decided to see how good I'd do with mine and so I made the spool tension really loose and practiced. I don't know how to access the brakes on my reel because I don't see any way to get the sideplate off. Anyways, I made quite a few casts and didn't backlash. I didn't seem to cast very much further than I do when I have my spool tension knob to where the bait slowly falls. Not sure if that is because of using too much thumb pressure or because of the brakes. I'm proud of myself nonetheless, because I've never considered myself very good with a baitcaster.
  15. Yeah, I found the site after I asked that. Lol I think I'll wait until I upgrade to a new reel and put the ABEC 5's or 7's on it considering they costs almost twice as much as m Templar.
  16. This is a dumb question because it's such a cheap reel, but I'd like to try out the bearings upgrade and it's gonna be a while before I get the money for another reel. Anyways, does anyone know what size bearings to buy for a Pflueger Templar? I know this reel very well so if there's a change I'll definitely feel it.
  17. I've fished spinnerbaits there for the past two years or so because it doesn't get very many weeds, but I've only caught about three bass on them. I still have to clear weeds off of the blades every time so they're not really worth it. I catch them sometimes on buzzbaits. Only caught one on a frog. Caught two on a jitterbug. I've tried a lot. Just can't figure them out anymore. Last year, before I started fishing out of the river, I could get one after the other. After I started using different techniques to adapt to fishing in the river, I stopped catching fish in the pond. I've even tried my old pond techniques and they don't catch anything anymore.
  18. So are they worth the extra money? And where is the best place to buy them?
  19. We have lots of ponds, but most are private. I only live a couple of miles from the river. Don't have any lakes near me.
  20. Negative. Lol the pond I fish is private anyways. I don't get to fish the river as much as I'd like. Last year was the first time I really put time into fishing it and caught my first river bass. Only caught about six the whole year.
  21. I have a fishing license, just not my driver's license. Lol
  22. T-rig gets hung up to much unless I just reel. Haven't caught anything with a weightless lizard.
  23. I have yet to try a Senko. I've tried Yum Dinger's because they were cheaper, but didn't catch anything on them. I'd rather go to the river, but I don't have my license. Lol
  24. The pond I normally go to hasn't been too active the past few times I've went. The only bass I've caught out of it this year was on a jerkbait. I used to catch about 15-20 in just a couple of hours just straight reeling a worm, but that was last year. The grass is too thick to fish a worm slow, and the dropshot gets tangled in the grass as well. Pretty much anything besides topwater gets tangled up. Any tips on what to use?
  25. Went to the doctor earlier and got prescribed medication. He said it's good that I have lots of hobbies, but said that exercise would possibly be beneficial as well. I have to go see the therapist again in about three weeks to get my dosage bumped up most likely and then again every three weeks after that until I get to feeling halfway normal. I'm going to take my GED practice test tomorrow and see if I'm ready for the real test. Just figured I'd give my Bass Resource family a quick update. Wish me luck!
