  1. If you see a laydown or rocks or something of that nature, fish it. It's probably your best bet. Docks are even better. Caught more fish casting by docks than anything else.
  2. How do you like it? I think after I get a spinning setup for finesse, I'm gonna get a Zillion 7.3:1.
  3. Well, firstly I'd like to apologize for the picture I posted on my "Trying To Turn Things Around" topic. I was in a dark place at the time. Onto the topic. I'm fishing my first tourney on August 8th. It's a charity tournament. We are fishing the Barbie, Avengers, SpongeBob, etc. combos, and then donating them after the tournament. I figured since it's for fun and charity it'd be a good first tournament for me and also a good opportunity to meet more kayak fisherman. It starts at 5:30a.m. and lasts until 9:30a.m. Hopefully it'll be long enough for me to catch at least one bass, which I have been unsuccessful at lately. Any tips would be appreciated. I'm not worried about winning, even though that'd be nice, I'm just going to go out and have fun.
  4. I get caught up, but since I now fish out of a kayak I manage to get unhung most of the time now. Lol
  5. I'm a Daiwa guy, so I have to say a Tatula or Tatula Type-R.
  6. Alright, thanks guys. Think I'll pick a couple of packs up and try them out.
  7. I'm thinking about switching up weights from lead to tungsten since I haven't been getting hung up on stuff as much lately. Just wanting to know some of the benefits.
  8. Yup.^
  9. Since I've been using braid, (about a week and a half) I've just been using Berkley Big Game. Working fine so far.
  10. I love it, man. It palms really well for me, but I have really large hands. I don't ever notice weight. I'm sure once I get to higher level reels I'll start noticing the difference, but right now, it doesn't bother me.
  11. Buy some kind of line conditioner and it'll help. KVD is supposed to be really good, but there isn't anywhere to buy local. I use Real Magic and don't notice much difference. I've been using braid with a leader lately so I'm just using the Real Magic to wipe down the reel after each trip.
  12. I'm wanting to get another, because I want a better all around rod, but for now its fine. I like it, but I'd definitely want a better one.
  13. I only have one rod and it's casting, so I'll list it. 7'3" Abu Vendetta H/F or XF (not sure which).
  14. Man, I just got back from fishing and all I have to say is WOW!!! I'm in love with this thing. Caught a small bass on it and it was smooth and consistent the whole time I was reeling him in. It casts far and I feel very accurate with it. I'm not using any brakes on it which I wasn't expecting to be able to do. Not to mention it looks amazing.
  15. I know you guys have seen tons and tons of these, but I just go my first $150+ dollar reel and I have to show it off. Plan to maybe do a few mods to it later on.
  16. I fish the river. Closest lake is probably Lake Guntersville. It'd be a long paddle. Takes about 15-20 minutes to drive there. I may be young, but I'm not in good shape, so that'd probably kill me. Lol
  17. Sensitivity doesn't mean the rod is weaker, it means it is made from a better blank. It shouldn't be any weaker than whatever you have now, the exception being an Ugly Stik.
  18. I've been trying to find some overhanging trees, but there isn't much. I may be able to carry it to the marina and fish their docks. It's just a pretty good ways away and that's why I haven't done it. Thanks for the tip!
  19. I've been fishing a lot out of this kayak lately, and I'm loving it, but I absolutely cannot find bass. I've been finding myself getting anxious to get a bite and yesterday set the hook on something and had to reach in the water to save my jig. Any tips for finding bass? Where I've been fishing isn't very deep at all. I can just put the paddle in the water and touch the bottom, and I can't drive very far to get better spots because I don't have my license.
  20. I'm sure they can do all the same applications as the heavier duty reels. I've had two 100 sized reels that I've used for everything. Probably fixing to get another. As to why the companies do that, I couldn't really tell you. Maybe they think most people who are willing to put that much money in a reel are all finesse fisherman. And as for buying a spinning reel, they may be like me. I can't use a spinning reel for anything. They feel awkward, I'm not accurate with them, I cast too high and far, etc.
  21. I'd do it if I fished tourneys.
  22. I've heard that the cheaper sunglasses can do more harm than good for your eyes. I only have one set of eyes, so I'd prefer to keep them in good condition.
  23. I just bought a pair of SunCloud's a few days ago and love them so far. Very comfortable and very clear. They run about $50-$60.
  24. I've been trying Spike-It lately. Still no bites. I guess I just suck. Lol
  25. I'm trying to get into the habit of backing off the drag after every trip since I keep my drag cranked.
