  1. Gonna have to get a few packs when i have the cash! awesome that we get em first!
  2. I love my family, but as odd as it may sound i consider fishing an important part of my mental health. it's how i escape and de-stress. i love being out and my biggest concern being what's on the other end of my line. i have other hobbies and i do enjoy them, but nothing compares to fishing.
  3. This. Also, just a suggestion, but I've really taken to grubs as an all around bait to get started on. You'll catch all kinds of different fish on them and they're super easy to use. Just buy a pack of Mister Twisters and some 1/8oz. jigheads. It's simple, just cast and retrieve. They're also really easy to get out of most snags, usually a pop of the rod tip and they're loose. Good luck!
  4. Lol well I'm married to one reason, and she's hard enough to handle when I don't make it worse
  5. Looking for a fishing bud nearby. I enjoy peace and quiet, but i'd like to have someone to fish with every now and then. Maybe share spots and tips on the best techniques.
  6. Well, I just found out that because of work and family conflicts, my next fishing trip won't be till the end of June. It's actually got me kind of depressed. How do y'all deal with long waits between trips?
  7. Ever catch something you didn't intend to, maybe on a lure or bait you didn't expect to work? when i was 12 my father took my brother and i wade fishing below a local dam that's a hotspot for bass. having never used lures much, i snatched one of those old spinners that was basically just a blade, a weight, a red bead, and a treble on a piece of wire. i assumed the faster the blade spun, the more it would attract fish, so i started casting downstream to let the current turn the blade. after several unsuccessful casts, i suddenly felt weight on the end of the line. i didn't feel anything fighting, so i assumed it was a stick and dragged it in. to mine and my father's shock it was a 5lb. mudcat. i didn't even know they hit lures.
  8. Look for rocky bottom and big boulders or downed trees. lures to use would be: rattletraps, tube jigs, my personal fav is white Mister Twisters on an 1/8 oz. jighead, in stained water a Colorado blade spinner works great (especially Chartreuse/White)
  9. I work at Walmart, just went to lunch and grabbed 2 different size Hula Poppers and a Rebel crank for $1.50 each. usually poppers are almost $6.00
  10. It was just an idea
  11. This is just something i've heard, but seems as reasonable as anything else: tick em off. use a buzzbait and just keep running it by until they're angry enough to shut it up. or try a scent.
  12. This is just an idea i came up with and thought i'd share. I'd like to start something where you pick someone at random from here, send them a lure (or type of lure) that you've had success on, then they pick someone and do the same, and so on. any thoughts?
  13. This is one of those lures i've had in my hand a dozen times, i just end up checking out with something else. has anyone tried it? if so any luck and how did you fish it? i would imagine it to be an erratic topwater lure, but i'm not sure.
  14. I have a similar problem to yours. i have a half dozen or so lures sitting in the tackle box waiting to be tried and still buy a new one about once a week now. my first cast of the day fluctuates. lately i've been trying a jitterbug (to no avail so far) if it's before daylight, but if the sun is rising i always use a Mister Twister. Glenn said it best tho in one of his videos (and i'm paraphrasing here) if you wanna build confidence in a lure, go out and fish that lure. Take just that one (or one type) and fish it: experiment with retrieves, stop and go, pop it. find what works and what doesn't for your style and area.
  15. The only person i ever get to fish with is my brother on rare occasions. we get competitive, so i really enjoy the peace and quiet of fishing alone
  16. Also, sorry to the mods if this was covered. i skimmed the crankbait threads in the best of, didn't really see time of day mentioned
  17. I think i did ok covering different water conditions color wise then. I have a white/chartreuse back, a red craw, a chartreuse/ black back, a neon bluegill, and a firetiger for really muddy conditions.
  18. i've never caught a fish on a crankbait, but for some reason i bought 5 of them recently: 2 Bombers, a Rebel, and 2 different sizes of KVD squarebills. I usually fish early morning from about 5-9. is there a particular time of day they work best?
  19. i have a few personal rules: leave anywhere you go cleaner than it was when you found it, first come first serve on fishing spots, catch-photo-release, if you don't lip it then it didn't count, and if i share my bait with you i expect you to return the favor
  20. As much as i hate to say it, i have to save up to be able to buy anything. i was thinking something close to $30 to learn on
  21. I'm kind of ashamed to admit this, especially considering i'm 27 and have fished for 24 years, but i don't know how to use a spinning or baitcasting reel. all i've ever used is Zebco closed face reels. i bought a Berkeley Mike Iaconelli spinning combo, but after 3 casts i somehow managed to get a tangle on the reel. I returned it, embarassed because i couldn't use it. i would like to learn, and everyone on youtube makes it look simple, but i don't know where to start. i need a starter combo. i don't have much money (being a working husband and dad who sometimes is lucky to make it paycheck to paycheck). any advice would be appreciated.
  22. We've all got a story, let's hear them. Mine was about 3 years ago. it was a typical saturday and i was at my favorite spot. i'd seen the dark figure of a huge fish several times that morning, but no luck getting a strike. i made a long cast, cranked the reel handle a few times and suddenly the lure stopped. i assumed it was hung up, so i raised my rod tip high and pulled back hard, hoping to free it. then i saw it, that dark shadow at the end of my line rising slowly. i managed to see the top fin break the surface, then a twitch of the head snapped my line. since that day i've been obsessed with the thought of landing that fish.
  23. Congrats! nothing to be ashamed of! I can relate tho, my main rod is a Zebco 33 because it's all i've ever felt comfortable trying. meanwhile, most people are slaying hawgs using baitcasters
