  1. So glad you asked this! i was wondering as well. just bought my first pack of senkos
  2. I've heard it helps reduce snags, and i tend to fish in and around a lot of limbs and rocks. i just wonder if it causes missed fish.
  3. Couldn't agree more Glenn
  4. The whole area is fairly slow, about halfway across it can get pretty quick tho. It's a stretch just below an area of really swift current.
  5. One of my several goals this year is to catch my first fish on a crankbait. i fish a river that varies between stained and clear from day to day. i bought several different colors: white/chartreuse back, red craw, chartreuse/black back, KVD neon bluegill, and firetiger. The only day i've been able to use them so far i only had the first two i listed and didn't have any luck. from what i can tell the forage is mostly craws, redeyes, and maybe bluegill (only caught one there in months of fishing it). any ideas?
  6. Well, now it's on the top of my list to pick up next
  7. Thanks for the heads up and concern. luckily this spot isn't isolated. it's under a frequently used walk bridge right in the middle of town. the reason i can't take my tackle box is just because i have a clunky Flambeau box that tends to roll over on any kind of incline.
  8. As BigBlock said, thank you for what you do for our country! it's because of you and people like you we are lucky to be free enough to enjoy our sport in the first place
  9. Caught my new PB Smallie. only 15in., but i was stoked. my next few goals to catch my first fish with each of the following lures: Hula Popper, Buzbait, Crankbait, Jig, and Senko
  10. While bankfishing one of my fav spots, i noticed an area i thought was inacessible. The spot i'm looking at is an area of river with concrete bridge pillars. the water there is typically stained a deep green. the bank leading down to it is too steep to risk taking my tackle box, so i may buy a small box to clip to my belt loop and take 2 rods. what 4 or 5 lures would you take?
  11. This is just an observation, but i love the fact that the majority of fisherman you meet are really nice people. y'all are one great example. another is how easy it is to strike up a conversation with someone while looking at fishing gear. it always ends up as an exchange of information. either they recommend a lure or spot, or i do. just one of the many things i love about our sport.
  12. I fish rivers mostly. smallie are abundant here, the river is 20 minutes away too so that helps. as someone without a boat, i feel rivers offer me the best chances for catching fish. if bass go deep fairly far out in a lake, i stand zero chance. but even in summer here, you can fish relatively shallow and still fair pretty well.
  13. Congrats!
  14. I think i may have found sonething to help: just traded in a few games and got Bass Pro Shops: The Strike. gonna try it out after work tonight
  15. A friend of mine said if i wanted to really get started topwater fishing, i needed to grab one. Since it was only $1.50 i did. any tips for walking it?
  16. I've always wanted to try making my own lure, but i don't know where to start. i figure if i start now, i'll be good enough to make it a winter hobby and have a good supply come next spring. so where do i start?
  17. My next fishing trip is weeks away, but it's also my most anticipated one of the year. I'm planning now to give myself the best possible chance of catching the maximum amount. i'm even keeping notes. my plan is to hit the pond at 3am and fish till 10. i've never bass fished in the dark before though. any tips on that or just general tips would be greatly appreciated.
  18. Nice fish!
  19. Cool! i hate aquariums, but i always wanted to raise a Largemouth and learn about their growth
  20. My personal best was about a 7lb. Largemouth at a pond my brother and i fished regularly. he had sworn he'd gone out there solo and landed a monster. of course being his big brother i called B.S. but when i finally caught it, sure enough his little red hook was still lodged in there. it still hit my spinnerbait like a freight train. didn't seem to care about the hook
  21. FishChaser1 i'm on a similar quest. You've already made the first step: joining this site. the fine folks here are full of great tips and info. nice buncha people too. i'm improving by trial and error. you gotta find what works for you. i bank fish as well, and it can be frustrating at times. one thing i do is try to draw em out. rattletraps run by cover will usually grab their attention. as far as depth goes, tie on a tube jig, cast out in a few different spots and pay attention to when it hits bottom. the longer the fall, the deeper it is. Topwater may also work if that doesn't. I've read about bass coming up almost 30 feet to nail a Hula Popper. hope i helped some. best of luck to you!
