  1. I bank fish. usually i can only fish from about 5-9am, so i hit the local river. Terrain and current vary. it starts slow and lined with downed trees, then towards the lower end it picks up a good bit, but is REALLY rocky. all of it is fairly shallow, and typically stained a deep green on the slower end and clear over the rocks. how many casts would you throw to one area before moving on?
  2. First of all welcome to our world lol. As several others have mentioned, Texas Rig is a good place to start. there are also two other very simple baits i recommend. the first is the spinnerbait. i prefer one with a single Colorado blade (the fat, round blade with all the dimples in it). the second is grub jigs. get a pack of white Mister Twister grubs, and a pack of 1/8 ounce white jigheads. thread the hook through the top, down into the body so that the straight part of the hook is lined up in the middle of the grub, and the bend is pointing up like the tail of the grub. push it all the way up the jighead so it's snug. both of these lures are fished the same way: cast and reel, experiment with slow and fast retrieves to see what the fish want. best of luck to you
  3. well that settles it. the next time i buy a good bit of gear, it'll be from Siebert. everyone here speaks so highly of them. they gotta be great for that kind of word of mouth
  4. Anybody ever find a lure while fishing and up catching fish with it yourself? it's happened to me several times. mosy recently i found a Rapala just lying in the water, wrapped it's trebles around my line, and pulled it in. caught 3 fish that day on it.
  5. A lot of fish hunt at night. take catfish as an example. they come up shallow to attack schools of baitfish. i've won several cat tourneys, all at night, and never further than 15 feet from the bank.
  6. Thanks. maybe just to be safe i'll grab a regular black buzzbait as another option
  7. My go to spinner is a cheap Bomber. Runs great and if i lose it it's easily replaced.
  8. So after reading several posts about buzzbaits, i decided to grab one of these. i thought it'd be a great starter buzz because it floats, so i can experiment with retrieves. my next trip will be mostly middle of the night to early morning, and i thought it would be a great chance to give it a test run. anybody used it? thoughts?
  9. You know you're hooked when your tackle box is more organized than your house. you know you're hooked when you go to sleep counting largemouth bass, not sheep. you know you're hooked when the night before a fishing trip is your equivalent of Christmas Eve. you know you're hooked when you remember the exact measurements of your personal best bass, but not your wife's birthday (hasn't happened to me yet lol)
  10. thanks Raul. i was wondering how to fish it. i figured it had to be near bottom because of the C-rig style beads
  11. i know. they were one of the originators of the plastic worms
  12. I'm new to senko fishing. gonna try this next time i hit the river
  13. They're the scoundrel worms. rigged with beads, a prop, and a second hook through the lower midsection of the worm. that the one you mean?
  14. As for your question about redeyes being gone, not a chance. my fav smallie spot also has an abundance of redeyes. i have literally caught smallies and redeyes on consecutive casts. redeye are resilient. one of my other fav spots has big redeyes, spotted bass, and largemouth.
  15. I have 2: white Mister Twister grub jigs on 1/8 oz heads, and white/chartreuse Bomber spinnerbaits with a Colorado blade
  16. Seeing so many people use spinning and baitcasting reels made me feel like a beginner for using spincast. thank you for posting this. i now have 3 i use: a Zebco 33 respooled with 10lb test fluorocarbon, a Shakespear Panfish combo that i use as my ultralite rig with 6lb test, and a big Zebco 808 with 15lb. The 808 is huge, so i never considered using it for bass (it has won me several catfish tourneys), but as i shift to bigger lures it may see more bassin. Matt
  17. The rig caught my eye, and for less than 2 bucks why not? i've never used anything with a prop like that before. The color looks very realistic, and the way the hooks are rigged looks like it'll prevent short strikes. can't wait to try it.
  18. I do a ton of smallie fishing, so i gotta have my trusty Mister Twisters. they're great around cover, the white does well in different water conditions, and flat out catch fish.
  19. Love days like that! you go from "can't buy a bite" to catching a hawg!
  20. I just wanted to post and say how great it is to.be a part of this site now, and thank you all for all the advice you've given me already. with the knowledge i've gained in just a short time here, i already feel like a better fisherman. I mention this place to every angler i meet. y'all are awesome. Thanks. Matt
  21. i only asked because at $5 each, i didn't wanna lose $30 worth of lures in a single outing
  22. I wouldn't tangle with a gar, doubt a bass would lol
  23. Congrats!
  24. I always go with an 1/8 oz. Cotton Cordell Super Spot. i may be targeting bass, but i'd rather catch another species than get skunked. it increases my chances.
  25. Wow! now that's a bucketmouth!
