  1. Best of luck to you. i'll be trying it for the first time soon as well
  2. I've used Panther Martins quite a bit for smallies, but as others have said if it's just bass you want, it's best to go with something else
  3. My Walmart had a few, but they went very quickly
  4. The banjo minnow was the one i thought might be the best of the bunch
  5. I've been seeing infomercials lately for the newest miracle gear. we've all seen them come and go. The ads are all hilariously bad. Has anybody ever fallen for it and grabbed one? maybe actually had success?
  6. I hear ya. family time is irreplaceable. I fish really early in the morning so i can still fish and not miss any time with my daughter
  7. I'm broke as a joke. if i put a plastic on, and it ain't getting bitten, it goes straight back to the box, usually hook and all so i don't add any unnecessary wear and tear, plus i can just re-tie that rig again when i feel it might work. i'm learning a lot about plastics this year, and sometimes the same presentation in a different color can make the difference between a full stringer and getting skunked.
  8. 15 smallies, and about 50 redeyes. one of the smallies was my PB.
  9. What kinda tips? been bank beating all my life
  10. This is my first year throwing plastics. baby paca craws in green pumpkin have landed me several nice smallies. i agree with the others, as long as price stays reasonable, they have my support.
  11. Thanks guys! just rigged up 6 different Yum Dingers: 2 each in 3 different colors. i've been fishing all my life, but have only begun to really use lures (other than 2 or 3 here and there). pre rigging gives me the chance to take my time and make sure they're on as straight as i can get em
  12. Thanks. i really hope i'm not annoying anybody too bad with my questions
  13. Sorry if this has been discussed before, but i didn't see it when i searched. usually when i'm fishing, time's of the essence. I prefer to spend as much time as possible with my line in the water. i was wondering if it would be a good idea to pre rig some plastics up before i go fishing. or would this dry them out too much? i've thought about doing it and keeping them in a spare plastics bag
  14. (not too proud of this) all i have are spincast reels. i'll be using my Zebco 33 with 10lb. test fluorocarbon mostly for everything. My Shakespeare Panfish combo with 6lb. test will be rigged up with one of the soft plastics to throw if a fish blows up and misses the buzzbait. i have 4 squarebills: a KVD 1.5 in neon bluegill, a KVD 1.0 in chartreuse/black back, a Rebel in red craw, and a Rebel in white/chartreuse back
  15. Great story. i hope i can make memories with my daughter that will have an impact on her like that
  16. So, my next trip is hopefully going to be a week from today, and having had a month to obsess over it, and knowing most of you have way more experience than me, i thought i'd share my plan and see if you had any thoughts/suggestions. i will be fishing a pond, and fishing from roughly 2-10am. there are 3 goals i hope to accomplish: catch my first topwater fish, my first senko fish, and my first crankbait fish. i thought i'd start with my buzzbait over a grassy area, with either a senko or paca craw as a backup for missed fish. i'll also be throwing my Midnight Special spinner. When the sun starts to rise i'll give hula poppers and jitterbugs a handful of casts, but really focus on running square billed cranks around cover. i planned on finishing the trip with senkos, both wacky and texas rigged. So, thanks for taking the time to read this and i welcome your opinions. Matt
  17. My work schedule is killing me. I got promoted, but now I never have time to fish. My next trip (if I get to make it) will be just over a month since my last outing, which is the longest I've gone since my first time out this year. So far my nerves are shot, I've spent 10x more than I usually do on gear, bought more lures in one month than I had in probably 10 years put together, played Bass Pro Shops The Strike relentlessly, watched hours upon hours of fishing videos (thank you Glenn, you're the man!), and probably driven all you poor folks crazy with questions.
  18. Great tip. Thanks
  19. Congrats! i've yet to catch my first topwater fish, but it's right on the top of my list of goals for my next trip.
  20. Just search fishing lures on ebay. set your price to $0.00-$3.00. you find all kinds of stuff dirt cheap
  21. I bought a black Strike King Bleeding Elite serires buzzbait for my next trip which will be mostly at night, but i was wondering if throwing it after sunup would still catch fish.
  22. Just picked up 11 lures for 1.55. 10 of them are short, fat jerkbaits. the other is longer and jointed with a really realistic looking natural pattern.
  23. That was friggin' sweet!
  24. If the water's muddy here in WV, i go with either black or firetiger lures. preferably something with a lot of rattle or vibration. Rapalas are great. i also like to throw lipless cranks and Colorado bladed spinnerbaits
  25. Anybody had any luck with em? i bought one because of the price. went out the next morning and fished it for 2 hours solid without a bite. i did exactly what the package said: reeled it VERY slowly, dragging it across the rocks. did that so much i wore the paint off the head on it.
