  1. I've had this jig in my tackle box for a few months, just not sure when to use it. I have it paired with a green pumpkin baby paca craw. I understand I basically just bounce it off the bottom as I retrieve it, but not much more, like what water conditions to throw it in
  2. Just don't trust it to be honest. lots of debris from the bridge that used to be upstream. my luck i'd fall and bust my head or get caught on a piece of steel. thanks for the tip.
  3. I found what looks like a killer spot for smallies. just need tips on my approach. it's an area of slow water just below a spot of swift current. there are two fallen trees about 6 feet apart. the only problem is i have to bankfish and i have to cast downstream from the swifter area, the opposite of my usual approach. any tips?
  4. I need to respool my Zebco 33. tried fluoro on it and i fish shallow water, it got horribly frayed. i need something that isn't so easily torn up, and decently strong. what do you recommend?
  5. My favorite spot is inhabited by a pair of beavers. I often see them when i'm there and every time i see them, the fish vanish. i don't wanna give up on the spot ( it's one of few i have access to). any suggestions? i'm worried i'm gonna end up hooking of them.
  6. I'm a musician, and i'm obsessed with music, but when i fish my focus is 100% on the water, my line, and my surroundings. 20-30 casts? lucky. lol i sometimes walk hundreds of yards for hours on end waiting for a bite
  7. BigBlock hit the nail on the head. if you have confidence that lure will work, throw it first. if it doesn't, decide ahead of time your preference for the lures you'll try next. fish behave differently all the time, so what worked then may not have worked even 5 minutes before or after, then again it may work all day long. for example, there are days my confidence gear slays em, and other days in the same spot at the same time of day where o get skunked. best of luck to you
  8. I've yet to catch a bass on a jig, but after catching my first topwater fish recently i gotta say that's my fav. Watching that explosion on the surface really gets the adrenaline going.
  9. I know this is pretty small compared to most of you folks' average fish, but it's a huge deal to me. I caught it at about 3:45am yesterday. I saw fishing blowing up the surface, tied on a little 1/8th oz. chartreuse buzzbait, and landed this one on the second cast. It hit like a ton of bricks, and thanks to what I've learned here, I waited till I felt the weight and set the hook. One of my goals for this year is now complete.
  10. Good luck!
  11. Them boys needed a little old school belt-to-butt communication
  12. Was gonna try my hand at fishing them on my last trip, but the pond I chose was insanely grassy. I even pulled in grass on my buzzbaits!
  13. Sucks when it happens, but it's unavoidable sometimes. had something happen this morning i felt bad about, even though it didn't kill the fish: was running a lipless crank and a smallie hit it so hard the back treble nailed the side of his lip and the front swung around right into its eye.
  14. just returned from my long anticipated trip. i accomplished one of my goals: i caught my first ever fish on a topwater lure. landed 3 nice largemouths on an 1/8 oz. Charteuse buzzbait. the pond was far too grassy for an sub-surface fishing. pulled in grass even on some topwaters. Coyotes were moving in (the howls were getting way too close for comfort) so i decided to hit the riverbank around sunup. what i found suprised me: after 2 days of rain the water was clear as glass and about 8 feet low. still managed a few average smallies on a lipless crank. decided to try my hand at fishing a fluke. that's where it got fugly. i had brought only one rod to the bank with me because of the terrain being hard to move around on. i got snagged, and snapped the top eye off my panfish rod. overall, it could have been worse. i caught fish, enjoyed the outdoors, and had a nice long talk with the good Lord. beats working anyday.
  15. Sorry if i came across wrong. definitely didn't mean to. just suggested linning because it would allow easier access to those tips.
  16. i bought some Yum Dingers to try. i have 3 colors: one's smoke with one side white, one's green with white, and what looks best to me is a dark greenish brown with chartreuse tips
  17. Beautiful bucketmouth!
  18. you guys should link the bank fishing threads with the most info in them and pin them so newbies can read that first before they ask
  19. When in doubt, i always have a spinnerbait handy
  20. I have a small Cotton Cordell Super Spot i'm gonna throw. i was thinking my strike king buzz might be effect because of the noise, size, and color, just wasn't sure because i've never seen fish hit topwater when it's muddy like that.
  21. Well, it's pouring now, but given my work schedule, i can't miss the chance to fish in the morning. I expect the pond to be pretty muddy. will topwater still work? my black buzz maybe? or should i stick to darker craws and black spinners? maybe chartreuse/black back KVD? i have to switch my carefully thought out plan now. any suggestions are greatly appreciates
  22. After over a month i finally get to go fishing. of course with my luck they're calling for scattered showers, but come hell or high water i'm going. any technique y'all use that works well when it rains?
  23. I really wanna try JJ's, but my next trip too close to order it. so i picked up a jar of Chatreuse Garlic Spike It. anybody used it? like it?
  24. Boredom can give birth to abominations haha. the last time i went fishing, something struck my bobber, but not the bait. the other day i was killing time messing around with my tackle box, and attached a treble hook to the bobber. out of curiosity i'm gonna cast it out next time i fish.
  25. I tell myself this, and still buy more. never know when you'll need it, or at least that's the reasoning i use
