  1. Im getting serious about dropshotting and I'm looking to upgrade my current dropshot rod (abu Garcia veritas) to something in the $300- range. So my question is, I have the opportunity to buy a phenix ultra mbx for $200 from a friend who is sponsored. The other option is the American legacy fishing rod trade in program. I could trade in the veritas and get a megabass orochi xx ds rod for around $200 also. What do u guys reccomend?
  2. That's funny, I had the exact same problem with an abu Garcia pro max. Must be those $80 reels!
  3. Looks like a Lucky Craft LV RTO. TO shad color.
  4. I caught a catfish on a crankbait all three back trebles in the back plus one in the front were stuck in the mouth. I had to kill him and pry his clamped jaws apart with a stick. Then I had to rip his mouth to get the trebles out. Pretty crazy... I hook bass bad sometimes also very deep in the throat, most of the time they survive.
  5. Largemouth is good deep-fried. Otherwise I'd rather eat panfish or trout.
  6. Squarebill or coffin-shaped bills deflect off cover (stumps, rocks, trees) better than round-lipped crankbaits. That's just one advantage.
  7. 50 lb sunline fx2 with a fluorocarbon leader imo.
  8. (quote)...should do great for frogging but is probably a little short for flipping. That's fine, it will be used primarily for frogging, i fish from the shore so I don't flip much, I normally pitch anyway...
  9. X2. Black Friday is the next sale as far as I know, wish they'd have one Columbus Day lol.
  10. Thanks. That's what I was thinking. Sounds like ill need to make a TW order. Perfect pitch, tatula type r, and fx2:)
  11. I fish from the shore also and primarily throw shallow cranks. I would start with strike king squarebills. Affordable, and they catch fish. I use them year-round, all day long.
  12. I have a question for you megabass users. What is the best rod in the orochi xx series for frogging and a little flipping/punching with heavy braid(60-80 lb fx2)?
  13. I can get 50+ yds on a 1/2 oz crankbait, 12 lb mono, and a long rod, 7 ft 6 in +.
  14. I don't reccomend it. I tried a6 ft 6 in extra heavy for 5 oz swimbaits couldn't get much casting distance maybe 25-30 yds. Switch to a 7 ft 9 in + and you'll get more casting distance and line/lure control IMO.
  15. New abu Garcia veritas 2.0. I have the gen 1 model, it had a couple problems but I see abu addressed that. However, sportsmans warehouse redding ca had abu villains on sale for $90. Now that's a nice rod! My brother picked one up and I highly reccomended it. Don't know if u can find one at that price though..
  16. Yes hand poured worms can be some of the best. They usually work as well or better than big brands.
  17. English and a little spanish.
  18. Squarebill crankbait in the fall, jig in the winter/spring, c-rig summer imo. Just my experience. Sorry I'm late posting i just saw this thread:)
  19. Amazon. That's were I buy mine. U can find tatulas for $100 and type r's for $135. I'm sure eBay has good prices too.
  20. I've used it with a 5/0 owner twistlock hook with good results this summer. Collects too many weeds though, I prefer to use a frog.
  21. What is your price range?
  22. I'm a duck and varmint hunter. I have a mossberg model 88 12 gauge and a ruger 10/22. I'd hunt for deer but can't afford a deer rifle I spend to much on bass fishing;). I'm going up to trinity lake ca in a few weeks for duck season can't wait!
  23. This and sexy shad.
  24. I throw squarebills on 16 lb mono and I lose plenty. I fish them around grass, stumps, trees, and riprap. When I lose one 50% of the time I get it back, it usually floats up. I throw them on a powell max 7 ft mh mod fast. 6.4:1 speed spool. My favorites are strike king 1.5s and spro little johns.
