I intend to use it for shallow cranking mostly squarebills and occasionally topwaters in the 1/4-3/4 ounce range. For fast moving applications I like a more compact reel like a shimano 50 size that palms easily. Is the Team Lite more compact than the zillion? I would imagine so based off of what I've heard about both reels and of course the significant weight difference.
How much money are we talkin? What is your price range? I'm a huge fan of sunline, but lately I've been using vicious FC in 6 lb test and its a decent line for the money.
Have any of you fished this lake recently? How's the fishing down there? I'll be staying down there (Castaic Ca) in a couple of weeks looking for some recent reports? Thanks.
I do! Kvd 1.5s are great, haven't had as much success on the other sizes though. My favorite would probably be spro little johns. Their flat sides are perfect for fall, and the colors are awesome.
I've heard great things about the zillion, but I just can't get past how heavy it is. The reel will be paired with a phenix m1 7'2" med hvy which is a light rod (under 4oz). The zillion weighs over 3 oz more than the team lite so I'm not sure if it would balance properly with the rod...
I prefer owner twistlock open gap hooks and straight shank worm hooks for most of my soft plastics. The only time I use EWGs are for bulky baits like tubes and swimbaits.
Has anyone used this reel yet? I noticed it on TW it looks like a nice reel. How does it compare to, say, the old Lews Team Gold or Daiwa Zillion on sale for the same price which I'm also considering?
Yep. I've had days were all they're biting is 5 inch weightless senkos or soft jerkbaits. Sometimes all they'll bite is dropshots or wacky rigs on 6 lb test. I don't like days like that. I'd rather catch them on a squarebill!
