I also use a mh crankbait rod with a 6.8:1 reel for worms a lot. Works fine I actually really like the moderate fast action for senkos. And the 6.8:1 gear ratio lews makes a good cross-over reel for crankbaits and worms.
I lost $55 worth of lures fishing from the shore one day. A spro bbz1 8 inch, spro little john, strike king squarebill, and rattletrap. It was a rough day. All that and the only thing I caught was a catfish.;(
Was it a St Croix? I don't know why they call that extra fast action a "jerkbait/topwater" rod, I like a moderate or moderate-fast for jerkbaits and topwaters. The extra-fast action is more suited to jigs and plastics IMO.
X2. I really enjoy the challenge of fishing lakes, especially deep, clear reservoirs. Pond fishing is almost too easy lol. I saw a lady who'd never fished before catch a 4 lb largemouth on a cheap spin cast combo on a small colorado farm pond. Which is a good thing, of course, ponds are a lot of fun!
4.5 inch straight tail roboworms and tubes are top producers for me. Morning dawn is my favorite color robo, the best tube I've found is the gitzit 3 inch by far the best color is brown craw/salt pepper at least in my area...
