  1. I've had the Steez Bottom Contact, it's been out for a little while now, the balance is far superior to the NRX and the build quality will leave the NRX in the dust, and it's not close. The Bottom contact is very nice, mine was paired with a Steez A, fished it about 20 times, I just decided that my newest other setup was better. If you are only considering the Bottom Contact or the NRX, and myself fishing both, I would go with the Steez for sure.
  2. Sunline Shooter is superior to Tatsu but Tatsu is a close second, if you are looking to get back into Tournament fishing you would want what gives you an edge not what's the best value.
  3. No problem, to me putting a shimano on as St. Croix is sacrilegious, especially now that besides St. Croix and Daiwa having a partnership of sorts before the AGS guides, they actually have Daiwa parts on their rods. Same with Megabass, I wouldn't put a Shimano reel on a Megabass rod. But that's just me. You'll be extremely pleased with the Legend Xtreme AGS series if you decide to go that route.
  4. I had 8 NRX rods back in 2018 and out of those rods I did have a 853c and a 854c The 7ft4 legend extreme AGS would definitely have a lot more power than the 854C and would make a great flipping stick in addition to a biffle/swinghead rod and a good offshore football jig rod, it balances perfectly with the Steez A that's mounted on it. The 7ft Medium Fast Extreme AGS casting rod very similar to the NRX 853c and is a awesome multipurpose rod. The 7ft medium heavy fast Extreme AGS, is a little to heavy to be a multipurpose rod, think of it as a 853+ I use mine for "mag" type baits in 15 fow or less and in close quarters situations if a longer rod is not practical.
  5. St. Croix Legend X 6ft10 ML xtra fast 2015 Daiwa Exist JDM 1025 6lb suffix 832 braid 5lb maxima ultragreen leader Used for split shotting. St. Croix Legend Xtreme AGS 7ft4 Heavy Fast Daiwa Steez A 14blb sunline structure flourocarbon Used for 1/2-3/4 football jigs. Those two setups are what I primarily use or at least start with.
  6. Nice combo And so the rabbit hole begins...
  7. Dont feel bad, The 2020 Legend Xtremes AGS rods are out of stock nearly everywhere, I managed to get 6 of them before they sent out stimulus checks to those people, and alot of anglers I'm sure bought up all my Legend Xtremes Lol! By the time I was able to fish them all extensively and knew I wanted more they were out of stock, now I gotta wait just like everyone else for more to become available, I was able to find one more 6ft8 medium extra fast spinning last week and a 7ft Medium Heavy fast casting last week, but it's the 6ft10 extra fast spinning that's is really special. It's like scooby doo "And I would've bought more if it weren't for those meddling stimulus checks!"
  8. I have at least two of the same exact combos for mostly bottom contact baits mostly because I fish different depths often during the day and can have two shaky head setups rigged up for shallow and deep, same with jigs and t rigs.
  9. They use the same type of graphite but the two blanks are completely different. I would look into the St. Croix Avid X rods, they are awesome for your dollar and have a 15 year transferable warranty. The 6ft medium fast action in spinning or casting is what you want and is a completely different animal when compared to a St. Croix Premier with the same specs.
  10. When I do use tubes I exclusively use 3.5 inch power tubes they are extremely productive.
  11. It's a LT2500-XH, I thought about the clear coated cork knob but it didn't go well with the Xtreme color, mine is the black RCS cork.
  12. Perfect throw in the back of a pick up truck for that just in case situation fishing rod, and usually on sale which is a plus. I had some way back in the day as a kid on a budget, they worked adequately then, I dont see why they wouldn't be just as sufficient today.
  13. Bought two more combos to add to my Legend AGS Xtreme collection. 6ft8 medium extra fast spinning paired with a Certate Lt for shaky heads 7ft medium heavy fast casting paired with a Steez SV TW for a general purpose back up on the deck.
  14. No cut off point for me If funds were a problem I would rather have a single and versatile true quality high end combo than a whole bunch of cheap combos and learn to fish baits with that combo effectively.
  15. Your basically making a lateral move, Kastking comes out of the Doyo or similar factory just like the bass pro reels, Lews and most Abu Garcia reels, in fact you can often swap internals between some of these reels, they mostly just have different "Body kits". Depending on your budget I would consider Daiwa or Shimano if you plan on keeping the reel for any length of time, otherwise Kastking is adequate if your replacing something worn out and just need to get back on the water. Supposedly they have some higher end reels out now though but it looks like even those or at least some of them have graphite frames..
  16. Just curious, what are you upgrading from to consider Kast King?
  17. And that's were a quality high end rod comes in to play, high end doesn't always translate to quality, sensitivity etc but most often it does, when you can feel a strike on slack line in the wind through the grip that your finger resting on the line missed that's when you know the difference. If you have issues removing a hook with no barb then acquiring better tools would be a good idea, the proper tool or tools for the job make everything fast and easy, of course with any lack of dexterity even with the proper tools I could see why some individuals would consider hook removal a burden and thus present potential burdensome techniques sparingly.
  18. A high end sensitive rod will help, along with crimping down the barb will allow you to remove the hook from a gut hooked fish, if you practice catch and release no need for a barb on a rig known to gut hook a fish when improperly fished, and knowing how to properly "play" a fish you will rarely lose any from a barbless hook.
  19. This is my "finesse" go to if its extremely tough. 1/32 tungsten bullet weight Gamakatsu #4 rebarb hook Hand poured 3.5 inch worms in watermelon color and a blue brown color. If you cant catch something on this then it's time to go home
  20. Yes that's it. If you want a better version that's more finesse and has a better line tie placement try the Decoy Nail Bomb VJ-71 with a #2 hook. Or the Decoy Decibo VJ-36 with a #2 hook.
  21. It's a light power rod with a extra fast action.
  22. I use a St. Croix Legend Elite Panfish 7ft Light Extra Fast rod, it works perfectly fine.
  23. I live in California so my target fish is primarily largemouth because that's the dominate species in my area with a few spots and smallies mixed in if I fish lakes that have them. I pull out the micro shaky head if it's a tough bite, or I go really big, one extreme or the other works if the bite is tough. I've caught bass up to 6 lbs on that micro shaky head but the average is around 2 lbs.
  24. 1/16 bullet weight is a little heavy for your micro texas rig, I use 1/32 tungsten bullets it's a better matched weight for small plastics you speak of. Have you tried a micro shaky head? I do extremely well with this setup, makes the "ned rig" obsolete for myself.
  25. Whichever color you think looks the best and have the most confidence in is the best and most productive color. 1/2 is a good all around weight
