We kind of go through this every year. All of the East coast guys want to go to Erie, Champlain, Lake George, etc. and the FL guys want to go to Okachhobie, Stick Marsh, etc. I would love it if the Road trip were in my back yard, so I would be all over a trip in the NE somewhere.
The fact of the matter is, we have members coming form both coasts and everywhere in between. So the fair thing to do is what we have been doing. The TN River chain of lakes is a world class fishery and is centrally located so everyone has a chance to attend from all over the country. I have never traveled less than a 1000 miles to attend a road trip and have only missed one, but if I had to travel to CA (obviously some big bass there) it would be out of reach. I rode my motorcycle 2300 miles (round trip) this year because I couldn't afford the fuel for the BassBus and it worked out OK.
Also, most of us can fish our local waters any time we want, so the RT is an opportunity to try some new water. As much as I want everyone to come to MY place for dinner and fish in MY lake, I know it's not fair to those on the West side of the country to insist on it. I think we can look forward to meeting and fishing in the central part of the country. I caught more fish on this last RT than on any other and it keeps getting better. Just don't be disappointed if it's not in your home state.
Lastly, start making your plans now for next year. Find or bring some buddies to help with the travel & lodging expenses. Plan some of your vacation time. You won't regret it. IMHO.
See you next year! 2014 NO EXCUSES!
