  3. Hey Dan, Welcome to the forum!! You will certainly learn a lot hanging around here. You should make a post on the introduction page so we can welcome you properly. As for a light swimbait rig to use for also fishing jigs, here's your reel http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1232401676 And here's your rod... http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1232126819 You have come to the right place. I hope this is helpful. Ronnie
  4. Hey Tony, Just a little tip to make big guides easier to wrap. Wrapping thread comes in different sizes (diameter) A size being small (diameter) and E size being larger (diameter) I try to use a thread size proportional to the guide size. On big surf guides, I will use E size tread, on stripper guides on a medium baitcaster I use C or D size thread and on micro or fly guides A or B size. Give it a try. I hope this helps. Ronnie
  5. I fish everything on your list except tubes on a DSR820S dropshot rod. It's light and responsive and has some backbone for a light power rod. Ronnie
  6. I have spoken to several more that are coming. Their names will show up when I receive their registration. This going to be GREAT! Get signed up!! Ronnie
  7. Hey Carl, The last time we talked was on your back porch on Lake Barkley in the middle of the night. As I recall, the subject was courting and marriage. I didn't mean to give you any ideas. LOL CONGRATULATIONS!! I fear I am not too far behind you though. Keep on keeping on! Ronnie
  8. Try one of these. Clamps onto your rod, turn it around backwards to count line added to your spool. Cheap, easy and accurate. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_57962____SearchResults Ronnie
  9. I have 2 Stradics that are older models. I don't have an FI version of the Stradic. I also have a "Twin Power" JDP version of the Sustain and it is a much nicer reel than the Straidics I have. I hope I haven't confused the issue. JMHO Ronnie
  10. You are da man Carl! Can't wait to see you there! Ronnie
  11. For everyone thinking about and trying to plan for the roadtrip! I really want to be clear about the hows & whys of the registration process. We have set it up the way you see it on the Roadtrip website because we need to plan ahead to accommodate the members who will be there. The rooms, food, boat seats, tee-shirts, guest speakers etc. must be accounted for ahead of time. WE NEED TO KNOW WHO WILL BE COMING so we can try to make sure you will have what you need to enjoy an awesome trip. This doesn't mean that you can't make the trip at the last minute. It just means that you will be on your own for accommodations. Last year at Guntersville we had some big issues and had to make big, changes at the last minute because so many members who said they were coming either dropped out or just didn't show up. A lot of work and planning goes into making this an affordable, memorable fishing trip. Please register and make your room reservations before the deadlines. (March 1, for registration and February 15, for rooms). FYI........ 1. If you need a roommate and want to share room expenses, go to the "Sign up" page on the website and see who is already registered. Send them a PM and work it out so you have a place to stay. You can send me a PM and I will help you with this. 2. We will be posting a boater list soon so we can make sure everyone has a boat seat. These will not be assigned ahead of time as many of us are looking to fish with as many different members as we can, so the goal is to simply have more boat seats than fishermen. We are on track for this so far. If you will be bringing your boat and have an empty seat to share, send me a PM so I can add your name to the forthcoming list. 3. Several members are cooking and sharing evening meals during the week. If you would like to volunteer to bring a side dish, desert or drinks, paper plates, etc. please PM me so I can coordinate your efforts. It will be expected that everyone will help with set up and clean up. 4. Based on my experience, it is unlikely you will be able to have better shot at fishing with some of the best bass fishermen in the country on a world class lake. Get signed up and make plans to join us. You will not be disappointed. BASSRESOURCE ROAD TRIP 2009 - NO EXCUSES! Ronnie
  12. It's hard to beat the Shimano 51Mg. I have 5 of the right handers and they handle light baits with the best of them. JMHO Ronnie
  13. There should be enough seats with people who bring boats to catch a ride. I'm 99.9999% sure that you wont have to fish off the bank. To date, no one that I know of has been without a boat to fish from on any previous road trips. We will figure out how to get you into a boat. JUST GET REGISTERED!!! 8-) Ronnie
  14. Zoom finesse worm. Ronnie
  15. Or you could postpone your trip a couple of weeks and join us on the 4th Annual Road Trip to Kentucky Lake. http://kentuckylake.bassresource.com/ Ronnie
  16. I almost deleted myself once. Then it dawned on me that I wouldn't be here to hit the 'undo' button. That was a close one. Ronnie
  17. I am one of those that have eaten a couple of Carl's steaks. He has got the right touch. Melts in your mouth and tasty as can be. I voted for Carl's med/rare. You won't get one better. JMHO Ronnie
  18. Matt, There are no disasters on a road trip. We only have fishing, fellowship and great time together. You can come and participate as much as you can. If you want to participate in the Wednesday night dinner, get a T-shirt, etc. then you should still register. You will also need to make arrangements for a place to stay while you are there. Hope to see you there! Ronnie
  19. OK Boys, It's time to get signed up!!!! I will accept PAID registrations until the end of February, but you must make your room arrangements by February 5th. After 2/5/09 rooms reserved for members will be released to the public and you will be on your own for a place to stay. Here's how you do it............ Go to the website http://kentuckylake.bassresource.com/ Click on the "Learn More" button at the bottom of the opening page. Click on the "Sign-Up" link and open the "Registration PDF" form. You can fill out the form on your computer and return it by email by clicking on the "Submit by email" button at the top of the form, or print the form and return it with your check by regular mail to me. Follow the instructions on page 2 of the form to get your room reserved. When I receive your check, I will post your name on the "Who's Coming" page and we will see you there. If you need any help at all, send me a PM and I will help you get it done. Include your phone # in the PM and I will call you back and do everything for you. We had some problems last year with last minute 'sign ups' and 'drop outs' and it caused a lot of problems with planning meals & accommodations. It is very important that you get signed up and paid up as soon as possible so we know how many will be coming. There are a lot of details that depend on knowing who and how many will be making the trip. It will be a great help to me if you get signed up ASAP. I will do whatever I can to help you, but you must send me a PM for me to help. Thanks in advance for getting signed up early and helping to make this the best "Road Trip" ever. NOTE: If you don't get the form to me and pay for your registration, we will assume you WILL NOT be there. No registrations will be accepted after March 1st 2009. God bless, Ronnie
  20. Looking good Cliff! Keep up the good work. I sent you something new to play with. Ronnie
  21. Hey Mike, you are just showing off, bragging about your fancy gear. I think you are trying to get another "high end gear" or "mono/flouro" argument started. You are an outboard motor in a septic tank, if you know what I mean. ;D ;D ;D Ronnie
  22. For me, it's a rhythm & timing thing. When I put down my 9 wt trying for bass and pick up the 4 wt to catch bluegill, it always takes a couple of dozen casts to get the timing right again. I have to snap the back cast a little quicker and hesitate a little longer with the lighter line. It takes a few minutes to get the feel again. Ronnie
  23. Awesome job Eddie! Great work. Obviously another satisfied fisherman. Oh and congratulations on the new rod wagn! Ronnie
  24. Wayne, It's my fault now that the website is not up. I have most of it done and will have info and details up by Monday. Glen has been on to me and I am on it. Sorry for the delay, I have had a couple of personal and business emergencies run into one another in the past couple of weeks. Thanks for your patience. Your humble Roadtrip Coordinator, Ronnie
  25. Ditto on my dusty office.........pics of Al's rod. The specs I got was for a stealthy rod so this is as stealthy as it gets. I'm not the artist that Keith is, but it will fish pretty good. LOL Ronnie
