  1. I grew up in Morris county. From what I know I do not believe there is a large population of bass in that part of the river. Mostly in the Resevoir above and a small amount of them in the lower part of the river. When I saw the picture it looked familiar which is why I had asked and now can give better info.
  2. Can ANYONE answer what the difference between and SV spool and a standard spool is??? Seems as if a lot of guys have these reels but not one person can explain the benefits of this particular spool.
  3. Whole downed trees??? I guess I better get some to use as a tow strap if I get stuck in the mud.
  4. Change your knot and use a drop of super glue.
  5. If your also saying the standard for setting a drag is 33%... How does YOUR conventional wisdom for 50# braid at 4# of drag work?!?!? That's a setting of ONLY 8%!!!!! Please explain.
  6. Sounds like a PM to Ck is in store. Lol
  7. The setup you have now is plenty of length if your catching most fish within 15' of shore. Heavy braid is the standard due to frogs being used in heavy cover and able to get a solid hook set. A lot of problems associated with missed hook sets is most guys have the mentality they need to "bomb" their bait as far away as possible and then wonder why they can't transfer that energy to the fish for a solid hook set. Practice your accuracy over distance 99% of the time. With accuracy and consistency comes distance on its own. Pay more attention to stealth and approach and your numbers and weights will also improve. Learn to use your combo as a TOOL of the trade. All aspects and angles. Practice backhand forehand underhand overhead and all angles in between and you will also find yourself placing baits where most people can't. I was taught as a kid to carry the mentality of... It's not the size of the hammer you use but how you use it is what counts. There is plenty to learn on here and some good advice as well as plenty of downright BS. If in doubt, try it out!!! What may not work for someone else doesn't mean it won't work for you. You'll get a lot of satisfaction when your using substandard equipment and out fishing these guys with their 1000$ combos.
  8. Unfortunately the only way to correct the problem is mono leader or wax as stated in previous post.
  9. What differentiates a standard spool compared to an SV spool?
  10. Plain and simple. Drag systems on both spinning and casting reels have washers and springs inside not only the drag material itself. Compressing these springs and washers will lessen its effect over time. If you set your reel at 5lbs of drag at the beginning of the season and don't back off after each use you will be dealing with a significant change at end of season. If reels are serviced regularly then it may happen less. In older reels a felt disk was used as the resistance material inside and was easily compressed. Even with today's composite materials used may not be compressed the springs and washers are still the same!!!
  11. So braid diameter is now the new weight rating also??? Wouldn't 1/3 of 20lbs braid be set at 7lbs????
  12. The braid being 15 lb test for example has much higher tensile properties than nylon or FC and may not start to yield until it reaches 75% of it's tensile strength or 10 lbs for example, the leader will break long before the stronger braid reaches it's yield strength Wouldn't 75% of 15lb test be closer to 11.25lbs? Setting drag at 10lbs would be 66%. How often are you using a scale to measure your drag? You would need to use a scale multiple times throughout the day to check due to mechanical changes your reel goes through during each outing due to temperature changes, drag material compression and swelling etc... Mono from what I have read can stretch up to 40%. Flouro about 25% and braid less then 5%.
  13. What differentiates the SV spool from a standard spool?
  14. Med are better suited for weightless trigs and crankbaits/lipless.
  15. MH if you have any intention of using for jigs.
  16. Crappie jigs maybe. Jig fishing in Florida the least I would use is a 6'6" MH. ML rods would be better suited for finesse baits and drop shotting in super clear water and very light line.
  17. DFGG68MH-C — 6’8” length - 10-14 pound test line - 1/8-5/8 ounce lures - fast action - medium heavy power rating. Comments: Balances perfectly with 12-pound line and 3/8-ounce jigs, 6” worms and medium-sized topwaters. Moves big fish with surprising ease and still feels like a feather in your hand. May be the best all-around rod of the bunch. DFGG610M-C — 6’10” length – 8-14 pound test line - 3/16-5/8 ounce lures -fast action – medium power rating Comments: Smaller worms and jigs, grubs, spinnerbaits and topwater baits. An excellent 10-12 pound line rod for lighter duty, clear water applications. Nice soft tip for casting smaller, light baits, but has surprising power the hook set. DFGG70MH-C — 7’0” length – 12-17-pound line - 3/16-5/8 ounce lures - fast action - medium-heavy power rating Comments: A really well balanced worm rod for 10-25 feet of water applications. We used it in open-water situations where the cover isn’t too thick, but this rod will surprise you when you need to put the pressure on even a big bass. The fast action makes this an accurate caster and a good choice for medium sized baits. DFGG73MH-C — 7’3” length – 12-17-pound line - 3/16-5/8 ounce lures - fast action - medium-heavy power rating Comments:: A nice, fast tip with a powerful backbone makes this rod a perfect choice for fishing Texas/Carolina rigs and small jigs, especially in clear water when you need longer casts and more leverage for a long range hookset. This is going to be an awesome buzzbait rod. DFGG73H-C — 7’3” length - 14-20-pound Co-Ploy, Fluorocarbon line - 5/16-3/4 ounce lures - fast action - heavy power rating Comments: A very effective deep-water jig rod for fishing in relatively heavy cover. Has the power to move a fish out from under a dock or from thick grass to the boat now, yet it won’t wear you out and you can fish with it all day long… no sore muscles, no fatigue, no problem. DFGG76XH-C — 7’6” length - 14-20-pound Co-Ploy, Fluorocarbon line and 50 pond test braid - 5/16-3/4 ounce lures – extra fast action – extra heavy power rating Comments: Extremely effective heavy cover rod; also works well with an umbrella rig. We primarily used this rod while flipping “Duck Weed or Primrose” with braid. This rod will ****** the biggest of fish out of the heaviest of cover before it realizes it’s in the boat. With more and more anglers becoming confident using and finding success with crank baits, the Duckett has addressed this technique with two rods. The Medium power 7-foot-0-inch model is designed to fish smaller lightweight crankbaits and jerk-baits, while the 7-foot-6-inch Medium Heavy model with its extra fast action other crankin’ applications. Crankin’ Rods DFGG70M-CC — 7’0” length - 8-12 pound line - 3/16-5/8 ounce lures - moderate action - medium power rating Comments: Casting a soft jerkbait, weighted only by the size of hook you use, requires a very responsive rod tip; this is the rod for it. Very effective when we used small crankbaits and jerkbaits such as shad raps and flukes. DFGG76MH-CC — 7’6” length – 8-12 pound line - 5/16-3/4 ounce lures - fast action – medium heavy power rating Comments: This crankbait rod is the best choice when you fish in the timber or around thicker vegetation. It has plenty of backbone to for handling heavy weights and big bass in deep water. Oh yea… it handles larger baits too! Spinning reel fans were not left out in the cold, asDuckettintroduces two 6-foot-9-inch medium heavy models is intended for lighter lines, clear water and smaller baits, and a 7-foot-0-inch medium rod for deep-water light line/small bait fishing. Spinning Rods DFGG69MH-S — 6’9” length - 6-12 pound line - 1/8-5/16 ounce lures - fast action - medium-heavy power rating Comments: Small worm/jighead combos, 2-5” grubs, small topwaters, little jigs, gin-clear water, just enough wind to make casting tough and finicky bass. Ultra-sensitive spinning rod great for finesse fishing. DFGG70M-S — 7’0” length - 6-12 pound line - 1/8-3/8 ounce lures -fast action - medium power rating Comments: The perfect solution for deep-water fishing where small baits and light line are a must to be successful. The fast tip allows you to cast un-weighted worms and soft jerkbaits a long ways with enough power to drive the hook home and pull the fish away from trouble.
  18. I don't know this line at all. What's the big deal with the SV spool?
  19. Lesson to all shimano owners... Keep them dry!!!!
  20. i definitely see your reasoning. I think however the small amount of ripped hook sets you may have will give way to the amount of larger fish you can land due to the ZERO give turning the head of a large bass and heading in the direction of the boat.
  21. If the majority of people are using a certain rod there must be a reason..... I'm all for being different and using different techniques. To each his own.
  22. You should try the poppa pit boss!!!
  23. Is that why??? He may get more info if someone knows where he's speaking about. If it was that secretive then he should have blacked out everything.
  24. Try the biospawn vile craws.
