  1. I guess I'm the only one on this forum who doesn't use an x-fast action, or even fast action, for jigs. First of all, the tip on that cranking rod should be too limber for efficient hook sets with a jig. You will be better off picking up something else. I have three jig outfits: 7'4" Heavy/Mod-Fast, 7'6" Heavy/Mod-Fast, and 7'6" Medium Heavy/Mod-Fast. A good moderate fast tip on a crisp blank has just as easy of hooksets as a fast or extra fast tip IMO. Also has just a little more bend to it, which helps keep fish pinned. But I also fish mostly deep water, so thats why I like the moderate fast tip. A stiff tipped rod and deep water is not a good combination at all, from past experiences. I would be fine with a fast tip in shallow water. So for me, it just depends on what depth water you are fishing. Also, a mod-fast tip on a heavy power jig rod and a mod-fast tip on a heavy power crank bait rod are two totally different tips, before anyone starts comparing the two.
  2. Pretty sure he fishes clear lakes in Tennessee if he fishes part of the Tennessee River System, as I do in Alabama. I wouldn't throw braid or braid with a leader for that matter. I would go straight fluoro with whatever lb test you want. If the 10 starts to break on you, then go on up in size.
  3. If you feel comfortable with 10 lb then throw it. I usually throw my 1/2 oz jigs on 14 lb and my 3/4 oz jigs on 16 lb, but if it ain't broke don't fix it. The 10 lb is perfect for 3/16 t-rigs imo.
  4. I'm not 100% sure if they do but I believe they will. PM Piscicidal, he could tell you!
  5. Two 200E5s I use for crankin. Both have Hawgtech 102mm swept handles with blue accents. I bought two Chronarch E star drags to put on these reels but I couldn't get them to fit. Was I mistaken to think they would fit? I like the Curado star drag better but I thought the black would look good on these. I'll probably buy blue ones eventually anyways haha. Curado 200E7 with Hawgtech 94mm straight handle with purple accents (yeah I know it looks pink but I promise it's more of a purple haha) Shimano Scorpion 1500XT with a Hawgtech 94mm straight, cork knobs, and gold accents. Chronarch 200E6 with Hawgtech 94mm straight with blue accents. Shimano Curado 200HG and Shimano Chronarch CH150CI4HG. Haven't gotten to upgrade them yet but hopefully I will soon. Also got a Metanium HG on the way! Thinking maybe a gold avail handle with sky blue accents for the Metanium from Hedgehog. What do you guys think? And sorry for the huge post, should have put all of the reels in one picture.
  6. Y'all are all crazy Quantum sucks and makes the worst reels I have never used. Haha just kidding guys, notice I said "never" used.
  7. Pro Qualifier and BB1 Pro are not even comparable.
  8. I'm pretty sure the Dobyns Pro Staff price is 35% off as I have talked to a few people on it and thats what they all told me. So the cheapest price for a Champion would be $155. I doubt he is making much money if any at all after paying shipping prices.
  9. As a tournament angler, I keep my rods one brand and my reels another. I use all Shimano reels and Tigerodz rods. I like all of my combos to have the same feel to them, like mentioned earlier by Jig Man. The Tigerodz are custom built rods so whenever I need one for a new technique I can really get the perfect rod for it.
  10. I have 5 Hawgtech handles and one with cork knobs, but there is no play in the knobs on mine so I'm not sure what the problem might be. Like mentioned earlier, take the knobs off to make sure the bearings are there. Contact Hawgtech on facebook as well, they have always gotten back to me quickly and I actually place my orders with them thru facebook.
  11. I use the Chronarch CI4HG and it's a dream to fish with. I don't see the need for a high line capacity reel. I use 14 lb fluoro with abt 1 ft of 14 lb mono on the other end and can cast it 40 yards without casting all of the line out. And I use braid as backing and my casts aren't even getting back to the backing, so this reel holds plenty of line and palms amazingly.
  12. I feel like this thread should be named "I can't believe TT rated my favorite reel fair".
  13. I use 20lb Sunline Super Monofilament and have not had any problem. The line is abrasion resistant and it has a smaller diameter and actually has the same diameter as the 14lb Siege you are using.
  14. I use glass rods and fluoro like mentioned earlier. They way I look at it, a 12 lb fluoro normally has a smaller diameter than a 12 lb mono, so the crank bait will go deeper on the fluoro with a smaller diameter. It all has to do with line diameter, at least in my opinion. I use 10 lb fluoro on my deep crankin setups, and sometimes 8 lb if I want to get it really deep.
  15. I throw anything 3/8 oz and up in texas rigs or jigs on a heavy power rod, but I know a lot of people that throw 3/8 - 1/2 on a medium heavy. You already have two medium heavys so I would go with a heavy power rod on this one. BTW the rod I use the most for these techniques is a 7'4" heavy mod-fast if you were wondering about the length. I used to use shorter rods until I got a couple longer rods now most of mine are longer than 7'.
  16. Let me add that on my centrifugal reels I used at most 2 brakes with pretty much no cast control knob tightness. I also had a few tatulas and for the life of me I had to have that cast control knob pretty tight, I'm not much of a magnetic brake guy though...
  17. I tighten mine more when its a mag brake reel. I might as well not have a cast control knob on my shimanos as it is hardly screwed on.
  18. The Lexa 300 is a big reel for big baits so the Powell would suit that reel the best. You would hate using that reel on the verdict or the fenwick.
  19. Bad question to ask. Everyone on here is going to say that there is no way that they are abec 9 bearings and that it won't make any difference over abec 5 bearings. I have talked to Dan about this matter and I would do the upgrade if I were you, totally worth it. I did it on two of my reels and they are crazy. The reason I say bad question is because I already got manhandled on this forum about them not being abec 9 bearings, though they are. Like stated earlier, Dan actually worked for Shimano and is a stand up guy. I wouldn't hesitate on the bearings.
  20. Used to have one, handles them great! Get it!
  21. Haha this made me laugh. I was thinking the exact same thing. I have used Ducketts, Dobyns, and Powells, all which were mentioned in this post. I liked all three brands and I felt each had their place in my arsenal. Although I did feel that the Dobyns was superior over the Duckett and Powell, but they were great sticks as well. If you don't want to spend the money on a Dobyns then you won't be disappointed with a Duckett or Powell. IMO if you are looking to get a Dobyns Savvy then I would go with a Powell Endurance or Duckett Micro Magic as I feel those two options are better than the Savvy. But if you are looking at the Champion and up, then I give the nod to Dobyns.
  22. As a couple have said, Sunline Super Natural Monofilament is GREAT for deep crankin. I use it in 8 lb when I really need to get my crankbait deep. The other line I use is Sunline Sniper Fluoro in 12 lb, thinking about picking up some Sunline Defier Armilo though. I would never use braid on a deep crankin setup, ever. No stretch to it and you need some stretch when throwing crankbaits. I have also used 12 lb Seaguar Invizx and it is a great line for deep crankin as well.
  23. Must just be the one where I live. Even with receipt you can only get store credit. Dick's and most other places give you cash back. Heck, you can take a used rod back to Academy without a receipt and they will give you cash back.
