  1. Well guys I've been trying to catch a big bass and I finally did it! Went out today and threw a 12" worm for a hour or so with no success so I switched to a 1/2oz black and blue structure jig with a Big bite baits craw trailer and caught her!! Thanks guys! Bassresource has made me such a better angler and I couldn't have done it without yall... The more I tried targeting big bass the more I realized it wasn't for me... So this ends my big bass quest. Its tough, going hours without a bite waiting for that one good one is hard on your mind. An old rusty scale we had said 5lbs for what its worth, that's a PB for me, I finally broke 5!!!
  2. Nice to meet ya Kyle!
  3. That's very cool observations guys, how hard is it to raise bass in an aquarium? It seems like it would be easier than a lot of fish considering they are tough and eat everything haha I'd love to raise one eventually
  4. Yes I like power bait worms! 10 seconds seems a little long to me for hookset but Ill try it!
  5. Oh and BTW go on over to the introductions section and tell us a little about yourself!
  6. Welcome to the forums! Read the pinned threads about baitcasters at the top of the forum. They will help you get an idea on how to set your baitcaster up, a 30 yard cast is pretty good!
  7. Caught another good mudfish! Still looking for that hawg... I had one live bait rig out while I was fishing the artificials but to get the bait (war mouth) I was throwing a tiny grub on a jig out with 12lb mono tied loosely to my wrist with my hands and pulling it in fast. Well Im pulling the grub when it gets hit by a big bowfin! So im trying to hold onto the line which i just knew was about to fail but the hook straightened out first and the jig head shoots out of the water like a .22 bullet hittting me in the wrist.... It HURT, now my wrist has a swollen welt haha....
  8. Don't the culprit ribbon tail worms float? Not 100% sure that they float but they are good affordable lures
  9. This is something I posted in a different thread on squarebills, it can apply to wake baits as well. "From my experience rattles work better when the bass are active, the lake is more active like a day with high winds for example, or the water is alittle dirtier than normal. Many people think rattles help get bass to bite when they are inactive, from my experience its quite the opposite. Rattles can negatively impact your fishing, if it didn't then rattles would always be a better choice. Rattles don't directly help the bass find your lure, they kinda are a heads up to the bass. When the bass hears that rattle it alerts them and they start actively searching for the bait, it doesn't really help the bass pin point the baits actual location much. So on a day that bass and bait fish are inactive wouldn't you agree that a noisy bait would put them off more than a silent bait that sneaks right up to their nose before they know it? EDIT: And one more thing to add is the more clear the water the less prone I am to using rattles, bass in clear water are mostly sight feeders anyways and they feel less secure. So I think rattles can negativly impact clear water fishing more than dirtier water... But they still have their place in clear water."
  10. No it doesn't "have" to like smokinal said, but a square bill is a reaction bait and to cause a reaction strike you have to have it "bouncing" off of stuff changing speed and direction. I'll post a link below of a thread I made on how I believe square bills work. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/143817-how-squarebills-work/?fromsearch=1
  11. Well he has a zero percent chance in a frying pan! As long as he wasn't pouring blood he should be fine, bass have a small amount of blood so if ones bleeding get him back in the water ASAP so it can clot up and quit
  12. Why not straight braid? That's what I do and it works fine.
  13. When a NFL player murders someone, knocks out his fiancé, etc etc that's doesn't make the NFL look bad? Not even a little??
  14. I'm trying to learn how to target big bass and that's why I'm throwing 10-12" worms, I know a lot of the bites I'm getting are dinks, bluegill, and pickerel/gar but I feel like I'm missing good quality bass...
  15. I skin hook my baits, I have been using the owner 7/0 oversize worm hooks. I ran out today and switched to some old worm hooks about the same size but from an unknown brand. I was still having issues with the owners though before I switched to the crappy hooks.
  16. 7'0 MH/F shimano zeles and 50lb braid.
  17. Okay thanks for you input maybe im just over thinking it... I start getting frustrated after like 5 missed bites and I cant be consistent with my hooksets.
  18. I like the running straight and vertical because they come through cover easier.
  19. Yes I use JJ's magic scent/dye.
  20. So there's a bird with a cavitron hang out of him flying around somewhere?? Hahaha
  21. Guys I know this an old thread but I'm still having problems hooking up when using big worms, I followed some advice you guys had by ditching the leader and EWG's. It seems like if I let them hold onto it too long I don't get a good set but if I set it to fast it just rips it out if their mouth... I'm catching bass with them but I'm missing more hook sets than I should.. I've been setting the hook as soon as I can reel the slack up because that's what I've always done
  22. Good video!
  23. You could get some lipless crankbaits, squarebills, and top water frogs!
