  1. I wish they gave more information on how many Carp per acre were put into the lake. The only information is this sign they stuck in the ground lol
  2. Sterile Carp were recently introduced into the Lake I fish most often, this Lake has an extremely high amount of vegetation. For decades they have drawn the lake down every so many years in winter to help kill the vegetation. I guess they finally gave up on that and have now introduced grass carp into the 3,500 acre lake. How will this affect the bass fishing in the years to come, do y’all believe grass carp are a benefit to a lake that has too much vegetation? The primary plant in the lake is fanwort, does anyone know how well Carp remove fanwort?
  3. How do y’all set the hook with the Gilly, do you wait a second or two before setting it or do you immediately set the hook when you feel the bite? I’ll post a picture of how I’m rigging it below, I use a 4/0 VMC Ringed Wide Gap on a MH Fast Action rod for the 130mm. It swims perfectly straight rigging it this way. I haven’t landed a single bass with them, I keep getting bites but when I set the hook I never get the fish. Maybe it’s just small bass or pickerel messing with it possibly, but it’s starting to frustrate the hell out of me because I see guys landing monsters with these baits. Should I try rigging it a different way? I can’t use an exposed hook because the lakes around her have way to much vegetation. Today I had a hit that almost jerked the rod out of my hand, I waited maybe a half second and when I set the hook there was nothing.
  4. I enjoy catching the big ones, what I don’t enjoy is them making your $15 Lure vanish into thin air, the pickerel in the lakes around here are all heavy because they are full of my tungsten flipping weights lol It can be annoying when they are biting really good and you can’t keep a soft plastic on the hook for more than 2 cast without it getting ripped to shreds. Overall I don’t mind them, during the tough 90-100 degree days in the summer here they can entertain you when the bass aren’t doing anything, same for the winter time.
  5. That’s some dedication lol, Now I won’t feel as crazy driving 2 hours to fish Seminole, I’m gonna give it a shot and see how much of a hassle it is. Edit: Meant to quote flyfisher’s post, did the wrong one, don’t know how to fix it
  6. I recently got into fishing from a kayak and I’m wondering how far y’all will go for a day trip, also how long is your normal commute for fishing? I’ve got a couple good spots around me but the bigger lakes are a decent drive, lake Seminole is 2-3 hours away from me depending on what part of it you are wanting to fish.
  7. I’m a total noob when it comes to kayak fishing but I made the leap recently and got this Perception Outlaw 11.5ft from academy , it’s been great and I fish more standing in it than sitting. Super stable. It’s big, 77lb with nothing in it so if you do get it make sure you have enough room for it and a good way to transport it. It’s pretty challenging for me to get it on top of our Jeep by myself but I can do it. It’s expensive compared to other smaller ones I was looking at but my logic was that I didn’t wanna a buy something cheaper/smaller and want to upgrade.
  8. I don’t really know what happened or why I stopped fishing as much as I did, But I’m back! Got into kayak fishing, went to Reed Bingham and caught a couple today. Super Tough, caught the first one on a swim jig almost as soon as I got on the water, didn’t catch the second one till I was getting ready to leave after fishing for about 6 hours, Had to paddle into some super thick stuff to get the second one.
  9. I have no idea, its an 8hp thats been on this jon boat for awhile, I geuss it just loosened over time... but that was some scary **** I thought I was about to lose a limb... I didnt have the kill switch hooked to me ethier.
  10. Just got done with a weekend trip to lake seminole, Didnt catch anything the first day and my boats motor about flew off the transom, so I had to get towed back and fix that.... but the next day I caught four banging a sqaurebill off stumps! That lakes awesome, for sure gonna go back this year. This was the biggest one I lucked into, sorry about the picture being flipped sideways...
  11. Sorry I havent replied sooner, came down with a bad case of the flu.. I decided im gonna just see about getting this one rebuilt by someone who knows what they are doing... plan on calling around and taking it to someone soon.
  12. That could work for me, Can you buy pipes for a boat like that in a store or is it something id have to make.
  13. I am using a "boat cover" too but I cant find one that wont have pockets for water when I tighten it, I reckon just because of the weird shape my boat has.
  14. I have a 15ft 1985 Lowe aluminum thats in srtucturally good condition as far as I can tell, and it has a 1980 mercury 25hp outboard on it that has been nothing but constant headaches. Im contemplating saving up money and buying a new outboard and getting it installed on my boat. Would it be dumb to do that on such an old boat, I can get my current motor running again but Its something that constantly has something breaking on it (Its just not realible.) Would it be more wise to just keep fiddiling with this old outboard untill i save enough moolah to buy a new boat and outboard at the same time? Which would take me awhile...
