  1. Hi all, I sure have a lot of questions and so far you guys have been great with replies. Has anybody else seen or have firsthand used the Porta-Bote for fishing?I have one and use it to access areas for scuba diving in some of the manmade reservoirs. I know it's pretty stable for that purpose, but there are several accessories for turning it into a 14ft fishing boat. Anybody try thta and if so could you share experiences. Thanks in advance!! Billy
  2. Hi all, Thanks in advance....kinda looking for people who have used the above mentioned rod and their feelings good or bad. I just got 2 for a really good price,($100 ea) and was looking for what my expectations should be. They are paired with a Shimano Saragosa SW 6000 and a Shimano Saragosa 5000F. Mostly fish for Largemouth, small boat/ shore fishing, not looking to win tournaments....just get out there and fish/snooze on the weekends. I'm the local scout leader so whenever we camp...I fish on some pretty nice under fished private waters. NJ.
  3. Hi all, Thanks in advance for your input and hopefully minimal amounts of ridicule. Thinking about starting the young-uns off in the hobby and was wonder how much damage I'll do to their abilities buy starting them off with the $30 ugly stick combos....10 and 12 yrs old. Are they that bad? I know they are supposed to be indestructible....but they haven't met these two. Again thanks.
  4. yeah once the bug bites....it's tough....cause you have to have the entire spectrum of colours of each plastics. And somebody's recommendation of the three rod multicaster with dual back-up reels has to be tried out for ourselves. ghoti? from the batman episode?
  5. ok, sorry to seem a little dense but what does the MF, MM and MH stand for? Thanks!
  6. Might I suggest EMT Shears, They have holsters and will cut a penny in half. Sturdy cheap and pretty lightweight. And if they go overboard they cost $3 or $4. I bought a 10 pack for about $24 and carry one in every car, motorcycle, boat and backpack I own.
  7. Union County here...several county parks Ponds and Lakes, Lake Wallenpaupack in PA and almost all of the private Boy Scout Lakes here in NJ.
  8. Howdy all, New member from NJ. I've been fishing, fishing for about 6 yrs now...ever since my son joined Boy Scouts...I was hooked (pun intended) into chaperoning the camping trips...when I asked one of the other dads what did they do on the trips it was a unanimous "FISH". So I got some gear....mostly won at Boy Scouts, trips have raffle prizes based on the events...fishing derbys=fishing gear. Then the bug hit....I ended up purchasing enough lures, jig and tackle to outfit every boy in a troop of 20 boys. Most fishing is on semi large private lakes on Boy Scout land. so not a lot of fishing pressure. Bought a 14ft Porta-Bote...(look them up, amazing little fishing boat) tool around on the scout lakes all day on a full battery charge. Really enjoying the time with my son and the other scouts and scouters....guess I found my retirement hobby. I don't mean that as a slight either....I currently scuba dive in the atlantic at least once a week year round and it's starting to take a toll on my 55 yr old frame. 20lbs of tackle beats 200lbs of tanks and weights and toys. Looking forward to the group dynamics!! Hopefully pick some brains and avoid the trial and error and endless upgrades. Did I mention I have 5 telescopes??? bought one....found out after a while that there were downsides to the style, upgraded....found downsides...upgraded etc, etc....now I have one of the largest privately owned ones in the state....yeah I'm that type A personality. I can see fishing gear being just like that....trying to shortcut the wrong stuff. Billy
