  1. I use the 7’ m/f HMG for inshore saltwater fishing. It’s paired with a 3000 size Penn Battle II with 10 lb power pro. That setup casts really well and has handled some upper slot red drum really well. It’s not the most sensitive rod but for $100 I can’t expect too much more from it.
  2. ^^^^^^This. If it feels right to you just go with it.
  3. Thanks! I guess I should have put on my glasses.
  4. You ever throw a trailer on it? Like a grub or maybe a toad? I’ve had decent luck on red drum with a white curly tail grub.
  5. Nice catch! I love to see people using old school baits like the silver minnow.
  6. I guess it’s a good thing I was only catching dinks.
  7. That’s the same thing I saw. Anyways, it’s my first time using a bait like this and was interesting watching it swim. It sinks rather quickly and will do a 180 with a slight twitch. The little guys I caught were all caught while burning it just under the surface.
  8. Thanks. Amazon was the only place I could find anything resembling it. I gave a guy $5 for it so I don’t feel like I wasted money. Was able to land a few dinks with it the other night. On a positive note, the hooks are extra sticky sharp.
  9. It’s roughly 3” long and I’m guessing 3/8 oz. It has no markings or brand labels on either side. Any help would be appreciated.
  10. Agreed, this site is very informative and for the most part light-hearted. I’m not trying to be the grammar police. But what does the term GEN mean to anyone? I guess I have seen it too many times and tonight it just annoyed me. Long week…
  11. Folks please stop referring to clear water as gen clear. The correct term is gin clear, as in the alcoholic beverage Gin. Don’t want to sound like a rant but I see this word used incorrectly so often in posts and it really grates on me.
  12. Congrats to your son…always nice to see kids catching
  13. Never used either of the two reels mentioned. I did have an old Okuma Avenger 2500 and it lasted almost 8 years with zero trouble...it was lost while I was moving. The only maintenance it ever saw was a drop or two of oil in the spring and fall. They can be found for around $40 which I would consider budget friendly.
  14. I'd say about as much as that sweet mustache!
  15. I’ve never had a reel get marred like that from setting it down on anything. Your wife’s reel looks like it is being dropped on the rocks, not set down. But as long as it’s working I wouldn’t worry about it.
  16. Agreed. This place just happens to be a public park on a main highway. It’s not so secret.
  17. Anytime. If I get out there this fall I’ll let you if I have any luck
  18. I’ve had zero luck out there. Seen a few folks catching bream but that’s about it. The whole place is covered in some sort of grass that I’m unfamiliar with…so fish something weedless. Also, there are a ton of copperheads around that place so be careful launching your kayak
  19. Looks like miller’s pond park in rocky point???
  20. .357 S&W J-frame...I've yet to have a revolver fail to go bang; no safety, just point and go boom.
  21. Devil's Horse near structure/grass Toads for covering large areas
  22. I though there would be more replies/answers to this...but I guess when you already know the bottom composition it's easy to say what things feel like. Any of the more seasoned veterans from before the time of on-board electronics around here??? I would like to know their opinion/experience on this.
  23. How can the angle of the line coming off of the reel change? I kind of understand what I think you're trying to explain, but this confused me more since the line will always come out at the same angle off of the reel and into the first eye on the rod...
  24. Sometimes companies have to send money to places they don't want to just to keep those folks quiet... i.e. hush money. Crazyjoe...you can't go wrong w/the Alpha Burlys.
  25. I would be flipping/pitching jigs into those submerged trees...pick the jig, color and then add a rage craw trailer. Being in the same situation and only fishing the neighborhood "fishing hole" the fishing has been tough of late. I'm gonna just ease off and wait until late September and then kill it again w/jerk baits.
