  1. Absolutely April - Early June are my favorites on that lake. Although April was a little iffy this year with the weather. Been fishing it with my grandpa for somewhere around 20 years now. Never get tired of it.
  2. Got out on Lanier last week at the south end. Fished with finesse worms texas-rigged on either a shaky head or regular weight and also threw a jig. Saw good numbers of spawning fish (spots) back in pockets but couldn't grab one off the bed. Best pattern I found was main lake and secondary points around brush anywhere from 25 ft on up to 2-3 ft. We pulled a good number of fish out of stuff like that. Fish in my avatar is from Lanier and caught a good one of similar (slightly smaller) size out of the middle of a tree on a point last week. Fishing is great there right now and I'll be back on the water as soon as I can.
  3. As a follow up, I ended up getting out there today and managed four fish. No big uns but one solid fish at 4 lbs. Love the look of the lake and despite a lot of boats everyone was very nice. From the guys I talked to at the ramp there wasn't much going on today so I'm definitely happy with my 4.
  4. Hey guys, New on the forum here but trying to figure out some different lakes in the Metro-Atlanta area that fishable either from shore or kayak. Little brother has gotten really excited about learning to fish from me and so after looking at some electric only lakes, figured I'd try to take him out to Varner where I haven't fished yet and so would be trying a variety of lures and tactics to try to find fish. I'm thinking this would be a good learning experience for him to get to see a bit of different stuff. If at all possible, however, I'd like not to go in completely blind so any tips on how to approach the lake would be helpful as far as good baits at this time, water temp from anyone who's been recently, or anything else that would be helpful without divulging any sensitive information. Thanks for any and all help and tight lines out there!
